Back when the actors and actresses on screen had real talent , charisma and star power (basically the opposite of today). The true Golden Age of Hollywood.
The many people who adored this dancing Moaning Minnie are just as heartfelt as I am. I love Fred. Ever since I was a girl in the 90s, I watched his feet, and I tried copying his moves. Fred, you are my favorite.❤
How wonderful to see this now so many stars so many memories - my favourite all time dancer Mr Fred Astaire, my mother and grandmother introduced me to him in my youth and I’ve never looked back, I watch all his film and have all of them on dvd to watch at my leisure - absolutely amazing talent and there will never ever be another like him
The night Fred died, I cried. I was a dancer and he was my idol. That night I dreamt he danced with me. Perhaps he did, who knows where we go and with whom, when we dream? He was SENSATIONAL !
WE visit Fred's modest grave in Chatsworth, San Fernando Valley. Not a long distance from him, we find the same simple grave of Ginger Rogers. They had a few dried flowers, but we brought fresh ones. We wonder if ? somebody take care now of their graves...
Grace, Beauty, Sense of Humor. Love , Passion and Perfection in every move , every single gesture-This is Fred Astaire's Magic! Thank you so much for sharing those fantastic moments of his Virtuosity!!!!
Well said Ladies. I wish I had said it myself. I can feel his magic because of the virtuosity of your words. As a writer, thank-you for this exquisite comment.
@@markdaniels2092 Wow! How absolutely extraordinary of You- A Writer to say something so wonderful to us! You Sir Made our day!!!!We meant every word ! Fred Astair 's art is a rare , unique , wonderful gift to to us from Universe!!!
In later years I read that Fred said that Ginger "really sold their films"...Ginger was more than just a dancer...she was a terrific.. academy award winning actress( for "Kitty Foyle" immediately after their last collaboration of 1939).
They dont make'm like this any more!. Astaire was a dazzling genius, raising popular dance to an art form accompanied by wonderful songs from great American Song Book. I simply love David Niven's witty introduction.
I simply adore that there's always going to be a desire for the classic arts of Dance and music. I am one! I adore the time Long passed😢l am 72 And grew up on watching these ahhh-some movies!!. THANK You so much ❤🎉😊
WOW! THEY COULD DANCE UP A STORM! FRED ASTRE, ELONORE POWER, GINGER ROGERS AND TO MY SUPPRISE JOAN CRAWFORD ♥️ BEAUTIFUL DANCING CELEBRITIES 💃 ♥️ ❤️ 😍 🎶 😀 💃 ♥️ 🎉LIKE SWANS, ALMOST FLYING THROUGH THROUGH THE AIR!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
The Stanford Theatre in Palo Alto, owned and operated by the Packard Foundation, is continuing its tribute to Astaire with double bills each weekend through April 14, 2024. The Foundation has played a major role in film preservation and offers the public the opportunity to see the best of the Golden Age of Cinema films on the screen in its beautifully restored theatre, where, by coincidence, I was last night. $5 for seniors ($7 others) for 2 films!
I grew up with him as my idol of grace elegance, and something that is completely removed from our wall today it’s nothing but trash and garbage. I always wanted to be Fred Astaire and I’m one I didn’t want to be his partner I wanted to be Fred Astaire I dance in my room to a Victrola I’m 76 today and I had a beautiful voice which I lost after 911 I sang in the master corset Philharmonic. He was my elegant idol of wearing the best the smartestand his stance in his approaches that he was a prince princess, and treated women as elegant as gorgeous and elegant
I am very proud to make the first comment. I just finished my book, describing my 47 years in totalitarian country, called Soviet Union and then teaching for 30 years in the United States. Being a Ukrainian/American scientist, I continued my career in the USA achieving status of full professor and department chair of American university. Being a PhD in Biology, nevertheless, I have managed dancing over 40 years as an amateur dancer, touring with a dance team many countries in Europe and Asia. At Kent state university I was teaching dsnce class in addition to my other four mandatory classes. I could resume my amateur dancing after Ukraine will win the war against Russian invasion. Fred Astaire was and still is my inspiration - an incredible artist.
Once a prestigious award, now is been given to people who have done nothing for the movies like Steve Martin, George Clooney, Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, Nicole Kidman, in stead of international symbols of the cinema like Sophia Loren, Sylvester Stallone, Kevin Costner ...
Ginger said she had an unbreakable engagement in New Orleans. In her absence Eleanor Powell paid Fred a brief but memorable tribute, and the secret ingredient of his dancing- Hermes Pan- was also on hand.
Surprised they left out the dances with Rita Hayward. Just saw them again and they equal or are somewhat better than almost any of the other dance partners. She is lighting fast i The Girl Gets Rich as well as a routine that escapes me now. However, they were all fantastic.... check out those routines.
Life was so different then more class hard to even have class in white house now we no who imagine young people looking up to that just saying . 5:425:43

and even singers had voices ))
She was just pissed because Fred says Rita Hayworth was his favorite partner

Unique style...massively talented one-of-a kind performer... and to this day could watch his films forever.
watching this makes so sad. All of the greats, and all gone, mostly. Fred, love ya baby. Still watching your films, still loving every minute ❤💔

Fred Astaire, was incredible and unique. Old Hollywood was as great as Fred Astaire. It will never happen again. It was simple and original.
This is such a gift of wonder and love and talent - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Poetry in motion!
They cut out the number "Pick Yourself Up." It's in the original tape I have of the show. The audience went wild after that one.
Who's more deserving 👏 of award than Fred? Thank you America 🇺🇸 for Mr. Astaire 😊
How lovely that they all stood up for Audrey Hepburn.❤😊
When a standing ovation still meant something, rather than the mindless exercise it is now.
Never be another like him. What a treasure.
This is wonderful have never seen this before Thankyou first posting baci x
WOW! THEY COULD DANCE UP A STORM! FRED ASTRE, ELONORE POWER, GINGER ROGERS AND TO MY SUPPRISE JOAN CRAWFORD ♥️ BEAUTIFUL DANCING CELEBRITIES 💃 ♥️ ❤️ 😍 🎶 😀 💃 ♥️

Pqp esse homem flutuava! Dançava muito! Sempre fui fa desde adolescente.
Gran bAilarin con todas las Actrices desde 1932 no habrá nadie igual 😢😢😢
where is Ginger Rogers? In 1981 she was still alive and Fred was his main partner in dances. Actually, Fred made her famous
There was an engagement she couldn't break to come.

Fred was absolutely unique...no one.like him.

I salute you! Don’t give up your passion for dancing. It’s good for our body and mind.
Best singer and dancer!? They are both greatest!!!! Never would be another couple like that!!!!
Rita Hayworth was his favorite
He was could dance like no one else. I love Fred Astaire.
Amazing
looking at 41:40-50 I understood where Michael Jackson took from his robot-like steps and even hat lowered over eyes in Thriller
A well-deserved standing ovation to Eleanor Powell!
Iconic pair fred and ginger
Ginger 🫚 was something else 💃 what a team 👏
What happened to the video segment that George Stevens announced? It was unceremoniously cut!
Legal issues, most probably.
One more thing-Audrey!
It would have been wonderful if his favourite partner, Rita Hayworth, had been there too.
Ginger said she had an unbreakable engagement in New Orleans. In her absence Eleanor Powell paid Fred a brief but memorable tribute, and the secret ingredient of his dancing- Hermes Pan- was also on hand.
fred
😅
FRED'S FAVORITE PARTNER WAS RITA HAYWORTH- HE SAID IT HIMSELF!
Rogers was not his favorite partner. He said it was Rita Hayworth. You only have to see them do "Sway with Me" to see the chemistry.
Obviously Fred and Ginger were not close.
Unfortunately, cut to ribbons from the original broadcast.
Time constraints!!!
The best Audrey looked post My Fair Lady. FInally got rid of that dreadful Tootsie perm.
Grace ??? Does anyone possess it anymore in the same amounts as this colossus did?
There's not too many. But, he's my favorite dancer of all.
Fred Astaire was THE best & it was said Ginger wasn't his favorite dancing partner. RIP Mr Astaire love you always.❤❤❤
He said Gi ger was the most affective.
@Jenifer_G ...Ginger had the acting chops to go along with her beauty...and...with the instruction of Hermes Pan and Fred...became a fine dancer.
He was freaking great!

They should have honored Ginger too.
I think because Fred had so many dance partners after Ginger... (as she wanted to do straight.acting-non-musicals).
Surprised they left out the dances with Rita Hayward. Just saw them again and they equal or are somewhat better than almost any of the other dance partners. She is lighting fast i The Girl Gets Rich as well as a routine that escapes me now. However, they were all fantastic.... check out those routines.
Very happy, tosee iti feel the samway
Look how beautiful these women looked without plastic surgery. Syd Charisse is absolutely gorgeous.

Ginger Rogers had a previous engagement in New Orleans?! 😏
To bad ginger Rodgers wasn't there . 27:54
❤😂😢😢😮
The woman 👩 who danced 💃 😍 with Fred ...incredibly talented ...made Fred appear so much better ❤❤❤
Both sides to fight with each other!!?
What do you mean?
Eleanor Powell was every bit as much a dancer who could keep up with Fred. For some reason that was a negative
Life was so different then more class hard to even have class in white house now we no who imagine young people looking up to that just saying . 5:42 5:43
I never been in Ukraine!!!! My grandfather was originally from Moscow!?
❤show it to de niro!
