  • In Raiders of the North Sea: Fields of Fame, enemy jarls have joined forces to help defend against the onslaught of raids on their settlements. But despite their threats, there is fame awaiting those who seek to kill or subdue them. Encountering a jarl is sure to bring injury, but now is no time for the faint-hearted. Onwards to the battlefield!
    In addition to including components for an extra player, Fields of Fame also includes the new township board, enemy jarl tokens and cards, fame, damage and a variety of new townsfolk.

    Marvelous! I got RotNS a few weeks back and started to think about adding an expansion to it and BAM, I got two videos that gave me all the answers. Thanks a lot, Luke!

    Excellent, detailed review! Would be awesome to see you do a review of the base game so you have a complete review of the whole series.

      Time is the issue. Besides if I'm reviewing expansions, you know I like the original already 😁

    Thank you for an honest review! New subscriber. I felt the same way about the expansion.

    I explain how the valkyrie die work, put all four die on the table, and you can choose to roll the two red, two valkyrie die, or one of each.

    Great review! I have Hall of Hero's and really like it. Might hold off on this expansion for the moment, and put the money towards a new game. Great videos BTW!!

    Too many deaths is a setback, yes. But I like the black dice because it makes battles more realistic. You're vikings, and you live a dangerous life. Your warriors can die on a whim.

      It does - I usually say to people in advance if they want to include it.

      OK thanks, I'll have to amend them when I'm back from my easter weekend I'm afraid.

    Agree with everything here. I don't use the Black dice, but I might with seasoned players or as a handicap for experienced players. Rather than heal the crew I usually just go back to port and replace them, or as you put it... off the boat you go, so they can die in battle. I like to grab a Jarl, then stock up on Mead and go grab some Valkyrie with wounded crew. They do all work together, but this isn't essential.

    What do you think of only the person currently in the lead on the score track rolling for the alt dice with the kill face? While everyone else has the option of choosing between the dice? May try that next game

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  Před 3 lety

      They could work I guess, but then would that put people off wanting to do well in the game?

    I too think Hall of heroes is better, but I love that it makes sense to overkill in this one. I always feel in wasting my turn when I need, say 10 strength to raid something and with dice I get 18. Now it makes a lot of sense. That's amazing.

  • @alexandertufano8462
    @alexandertufano8462 Před 3 lety

    I feel like the wounds are too punishing - while you can sacrifice them to Valkyrie, sometimes I have a crew member I really want to hold onto because of an ability, and there aren't a lot of ways to remove wounds and keep them as an effective member contributing strength. I really enjoy how Raiders of Scythia tweaked this, to provide a location where you can heal wounds. It makes it more of an ebb and flow of how damaged tour crew is, instead of a one-way street.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  Před 3 lety +1

      You don't have to attack jarls though and get wounded. For me, crew are expendable!

      @@TheBrokenMeeple that’s true, but I want to attack them and be able to heal - to have my cake and eat it too!

    I used to have a fully-expanded Raiders of the North Sea, but I sold it and got Raiders of Scythia instead.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  Před 3 lety

      Really? The new one looks fine but not enough difference to warrant switching.

    • @hanng1242
      @hanng1242 Před 3 lety

      @@TheBrokenMeeple I like the streamlining as compared to Raiders of the North Sea with both expansions. I also like how some eagles allow the attached crewmember to use his Town Hall ability while in the raiding party. I like how Fields of Fame got essentially reworked such that crewmembers take wounds on regular raids, but there is a character that is always part of the crew from the start (variable player powers).

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  Před 3 lety +1

      @@hanng1242 My main concern is the graphic design, it's such a busy board in new version.

    • @hanng1242
      @hanng1242 Před 3 lety +1

      @@TheBrokenMeeple Yeah; the RotNS board is certainly more attractive. The crew portraits are a bit easier to distinguish from each other as well.
