Is Fractures of Time Too Much On Top Of Anachrony? - Beyond The Base Game Review

- In the alternate storyline of Fractures of Time, Anachrony’s first major expansion, the four original Paths and the newly formed, sanguine Path of Unity have gained access to a powerful new technology called Flux. Flux Cores can be acquired in the Amethynia Valley, the expansion’s new main zone. By using the Flux Cores to power up their Fracture device, players may move (“Blink”) one of their already placed Exosuits to a new action space instead of placing a new one, or immediately retrieve some of their Workers or Free Action markers.
This can result in never-before-seen action efficiency, but just like the Time Rifts, the Flux technology is a double-edged sword. Without a sufficiently advanced Fracture device, overusing it can cause Temporal Glitches; hectic negative effects such as shutting down the Exosuit bay slots, temporarily disabling buildings, or making players more prone to Anomalies.
There's a ton of stuff to get through here, so expect a longer video! :P

Awesome job going through everything Fractures of Time has to offer, thanks very much for this video!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching and glad you liked it!
Great review. Thanks Luke!
Glad you liked it!
I think Mindclash have done a good job balancing out the expansions for this game precisely to avoid bloat. They make a point in the rulebook to suggest which expansions should and should not be played together.
Whereas other games, like Terraforming Mars, have become huge with all the expansions added in. Fractures of Time really adds a sea of variety.
I am perhaps biased. I love this game (and Terraforming Mars). Thanks for the video.
Oh they do, but I'd rather be able to use everything for everything to gel in nicely without bloating.
@@TheBrokenMeeple You just want to have your cake AND eat it! :-)
@@cutthr0atjake Cake is good. . . . and also a lie!
Nice one Luke, thanks.
I recently acquired the Fractures of Time expansion. I was particularly interested in the new Chronobot & Chronossus. I thought I’d build up to Chronossus, by trying the upgraded Chronobot with the original game first.
I was in for a good hiding! 🤕
Personally I found it to be very very hard to beat. Perhaps it’s because I was so rubbish at the game, but I lost the first 7 games in a row! I finally won on the 8 th attempt.
6 of the attempts were with THE PATH OF SALVATION
the final 2 games with THE PATH OF PRIGRESS.
I hope when I try the new Chronossus that it is not as punishing.
I do look forward to trying the ‘BLINKING’ game again.
Punishing I'm not sure, as I haven't struggled to beat it without tweaking difficulties yet, but I've played the game enough before hand.
Base Chronossus is an easier opponent than base Chronobot (by design). However, Chronossus has many, many to tweak difficulty. Have fun and please reach out if you have any questions.
If you had to choose between Anachrony or A Feast for Odin (with their respective expansions), which one would you get?
Anachrony hands down.
Luke, did you do a review of the base game? If so, please provide a link. Thanks!
Don't think I ever did, I just mentioned it on all the Top 100s usually in the top 40.
This may be my favorite expansion in terms of how it elevates the base game for me. I had pretty mild feelings towards the base game, but this expansion caused me to love the game. I always felt just a little too restricted in what I could do, but the addition of blinking opened up the game for me. I love that it isn't free to do, but the cost is by no means burdensome. Also giving more of a point to breakthroughs is really nice as well.
I sold my Infinity Box, the amount of bloat it was ridiculous plus the organizer wasnt great so it made the box way bigger than it should have been. It just never got played, because the box layout was terrible.
I rebought anachrony essentials, fractures of time, a legacy anachrony empty bigger box and it all fits in much smaller box. I m much happier with the single set of minis vs 5 sets of minis where I honestly didnt like 3 of them.
Not tried Fractures yet, but Pioneers is one of my favourite expansions. I love the idea all of these expansions as I randomly choose which expansions to use meaning the game stays fresher, with surprise variety.
Glad you like them! But it's too many rules to remember to just randomly incorporate them, I'd rather have my perfect setup and stick to that.
Mmmm, I love all the extra stuff, especially solo. Fractures of Time solo with Hypersync and Quantum Loops is a mind bender.
There's a limit for how complex I need it though!
Solo... hmmm no.
Great vid.
Btw Pioneers is a must for us.
We are heavy ameri gamers with my wife (TI, Forbidden Stars, GF9 Dune, etc) so for us, going for adventures are a MUST.
Plus the game with 3 players main board only have barely enough action for all player. But mostly... not enough.
But with Pios and Guardians (what is also a must for us) there is more than enough options fpr the players.
One can go for an adventure and the other two can play engine build.
Plus Pioneers is super super easy to use. If you onow how to play Talisman (go, roll, kill/die, reward) you know how to play.
When we will have (not if) this two expansion we surely add Fracture board to the game and some module from Imperfect.
Question. I am a Salvation main player and they focus on time travel score. So. The -1 turn makes them weaker or the blinking give them more option to score from time travel?
It kind of balances out really. Yes you get 1 less turn, but that track goes up with each time travel attempt. So build multiple time machines and don't be afraid to go a bit nuts with the paradoxes :-) I know one time I grabbed the building that negated most of the penalties for having anomalies so I just did I pleased!
I think the complexity and bloat works for this game. I love the fact that it plays like a videogame and that you have a great time regardless of how well you do.
It works but man it's a beast to remember them all after a hiatus. That's the problem with the heavier games.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Also, the more boardgames come out, the more complexity and playtime becomes an issue to the vast majority of gamers.
I had purchased the 3 Essential editions and guess what... No Cronobot included. You got an older Print and Play from the website. So purchasing Fractures in time with the included improved Cronobot was okay for me. Future Imperfect is also a standalone expansion you could purchase. ( yes I did 😣 ) Now waiting on the Big Box and upgraded components for Anachrony from the Perseverance Kickstarter. Did you back Perseverance? ( Where did my weekend go? )
I did back Perseverance, so I hope I have time to give that the time it deserves!
The expansions are very modular. Seems to me like you either play base + FoT or base + FI, everything together would be overkill.
Yeah and frankly I think Base + FOT is perfect enough.
So what you are saying is that Anachrony is still too medium-heavy and far from a finished product line and you are ready for them to kick it up a notch? hmmm, I suppose you may be right, but the box is already pretty full...we may need a bigger box.
:P Lol! I won't be getting anything else for this I don't think - I can't imagine what would make me sign up for even more bloat.
Not to mention that this was never a medium game even in base form.
I considered getting the original game used for around $40 but it just looks terrible without the minis and I don’t even really like minis. I see people having a hard time selling base game for $40. Seems like a rather boring worker placement game with very little interaction, fiddly rules and unbalanced workers. Did you ever do a review of the base? I can’t find it. How exactly would I search through your old videos?
Just searching the title of a game with Broken Meeple after it should work out - but no I didn't review the base game, but talked about it in a worker placement Top 10 I believe. The base game is perfectly decent on its own and doesn't need Fractures to "git good".
What happened to your hair?
Low flow showerhead?
Its called a lockdown no professional hair cuts since December.
Nah my hair was cut by this video, I just brushed it forward.
lmao, I have to admit that the main reason I clicked into this video was to see if this question had already been asked. 😁. I did thumbs up the video though!
The troll who disliked the video instantly will be the first victim to one of my "glitches". . . .
Possibly a disgruntled Harry Potter fan. :) Don‘t take it too hard. There is always an idiot on the Internet. And then another one...
Oh I don't, but I like to comment! Like you said, now 2 idiots! :D
This game is the epitome of bloat
It is with the KS expansions - just stick to base or base + FoT and you're good.
@@TheBrokenMeeple great video btw
I’m pretty sure Everdell wins this award. 🤷🏾♂️😅
love the game but two points always make me stop playing it :
1) The Research aspect of the game, with random along it, doesn't really fit the theme for me. And the chronobot is making so many points with those...
2) The game takes SOOOO MUCH SPAAAACE on the table... (even worst now with that fractures of time)
Space is a premium with most games but yeah the research is definitely the weak link of the game.
The Chronobot was not "upgraded". It was badly designed, you could starve it out of points by passing early. It was cheesy and gamey. Badly designed and now it needs an expansion to fix it that you have to buy just to play core game solo.
Never played it enough to notice you could exploit it!
exactly, they removed content from their boxes, raised prices, etc. MindClash essentially embracing the EA DLC Experience
