I really admire Ryan's cooking ability. Most people would buy meals ready to eat or fast food. Ryan takes recipes and cooks from scratch.
i wouldn’t say it’s something to admire
Id say he tries ..
@@travisbro in a world where everybody just dumps hot water into MRE's or boil hotdogs, its refreshing to see someone cook from scratch (Mav does it a lot too)
Im here for the cooking
He’s not an insane cook, but he’s not bad by any means. I understand the comment, it would be tempting to get fast food while in a domicile.
I just opened YT after a long work meeting. So happy to see Ryan's video. His content relaxes me so much. I can't wait for this to be MY life someday!!! Keep it up, Ryan.
Glad I'm not the only one going through the same LOL planning on doing a cross country road trip w/ a Ariel Nomad in a few years. Saving/working/saving/working...... just for that dream
I feel you on that one lol
Ditto. I have 2 more years then I’m going cross country. I’m so envious of Ryan and the others that do it
It’s a great day when Ryan uploads
He uploads everyday lol
True
Everyday is a good day
facts
Is this really your gamer tag mrsauSagexd
I wanted to play cod with you sometime
Thanks for uploading bro. Your videos have been helping me get thru these tough days.
Been living in my van 4 months now. Watched your channel months leading up to it, getting advice and prepping. Much respect man. Always enjoy the new videos
dude thats awesome enjoy !
Each video I watch of yours makes me wana live the van life more and more. I am firm lover of solitude so this life definitely fits well.
Thank you for showing appreciation to Arizona’s beauty and mountains 🙌🏽
I love your videos. You cook like a freaking chef in your van. Very impressive!
That rest area is legit my favorite place to stop when coming into AZ. It's my first place I ever stopped in AZ before I moved there. I can't put into words how amazing it felt as someone who grew up on the east coast and knew nothing of the desert. I take a different way into and out of the valley now with how bad traffic is on the 10, but I love that spot.
Thanks for saying a whole lot of nothing friend.
I discovered your channel this weekend and I love it SO FUCKING MUCH. Thank you so much for sharing w/ us.
Also your "boring" days are among my favorites. Your narration is a ton of fun (and you have such a unique voice) but those no-narration solitude & existence videos hit HARD. A+
El Charro is one of the few places in the United States that is grandfathered in to cook their carne Seca in the Sonoran sun. If you went in the bar area, you would see a cage hanging where they actually cook the meat in the sun.
Just a quick suggestion...if you put the onion in the freezer for about 5 to 10 minutes right before you cut them, the vapors in the onions will freeze. That should eliminate your eyes being assaulted.
Onion hack. Keep the end with the hairs intact. If you're dicing slice through the middle of the hairs (or root) (whatever it is lol) and then use the root as your handle. If slicing make the part with the hairs the last thing you slice. Removing that part off the onion is what releases the fumes.
A chef said the reason that happens with the onions is because we aren’t using knives that are sharp enough, so it’s literally squeezing juices into the air. He showed two close up’s, one with a blunt knife and one with a really sharp knife. It should just glide through the onion
Hi Ryan. Just subscribed from sunny Malaysia. A very long time ago I studied in the US and during summers used to travel a fair bit with an American friend who sadly died fighting for his country in Iraq. We had a beat up car he drove and meandered all over in quite the similar fashion you do now. Your video brings back memories and although it has changed so much, I am able to relive our youth and the memory of that friend by living vicariously through you.
Thank you for bringing this old soldier fond memories of his youth and his much missed old buddy, may God bless his soul and bless you.
Also you did mention that it gets lonely sometimes. Well know this, you have more than a 100k companions waiting for the delayed telecast and our spirit is with you.
Bon voyage and many great days ahead, my young adventurer.
Hey Ryan! I love Arizona. I love the southwest. It’s so peaceful and the mountains are a dream!🥰. Enjoy! Travel safe❤
Do a meetup for your followers here in Tucson. There’s tons of Us here for the winter. Go to BorderLands brewery, get the horchata cream ale 🍺!!!
The mountains on the east cost are eroded down. They used to be like the Rockies but are old. They are the roots of mountains. Been following you for a couple months now. Fellow DMV'er.
Amazing sky as you walked through the closed town around 9 minute mark.
Ryan if you like those mountains, wait until you see the rockies, and the mountain ranges in Alaska. You will lose your mind. I hope your way through Canada you drive the Japer to Banff Icefeild Parkway, it is one of the world's most spectacular driving routes. Cheers!
Here's a pro tip for cutting onions. If they are making your eyes water, it means your knife is dull. A dull knife will crush the cell walls of the onion and release the tear causing vapors, where a sharp will cut cleanly through them.
Great to see you Ryan! You’re the best
13:45 🤣 the onion eye burn, I'm dying
i am not even a us citizen... but i already feel like i am. your videos relaxes me so much... its has so much positivity and inspire me in a lot of way to be self dependent, even to be a vlogger.... your videos are the best. thankyou.
Wear the swim goggles while cutting onions is my 2cents. That made me LOL!
These videos are also cool cooking tutorials. I’m traveling South America solo and these videos definitely inspire me to cook more
For thin sliced meat or ground beef, 1/2 tsp baking soda mixed into 1 Tbsp of water. Tenderizes. Makes a huge difference.
First. Lol let’s go. Just in time so I can eat dinner and watch This.
The onion part was funny !!!😅😂
midnight in South Africa watching
super cool, like the calmness and the overall video. thanks for showing us what you're daily life is
man I've been salivating at the thought of road tripping across America for a while now
oh your gonna love Banff the mountains and lakes are stunning
As someone who works in the food industry and went to school for it. The only real good way to avoid onion burn on your eyes is to make sure your knife is razor sharp. If it isn’t, you have to force the knife while you slice and onion juice mists into the air.
You, Mav, and Steve Wallis are my favorite campers
I really hope this trip blows your channel up bro. Your content is so fun to watch! Stay safe out there, love from Vegas!
It's really crazy hearing someone say how beautiful the mountains are in the west. Guess I'm just used to them having lived in Colorado for all my life
You should definitely visit Valley of Fire in Nevada, it’s beautiful. If memory serves, it costs somewhere around $15 to get in but definitely worth every penny. It’s between Vegas and southern Utah. Also, driving from there up to St. George, you go through the Virgin River Gorge, gorgeous drive.
These videos are good low key and the fajitas where it’s at
I use foam-lined safety glasses when I chop up onions. They don't solve the problem but they do help quite a bit.
2 straight days of Ryan uploads!
This might be a little too touristy for your taste, but Sedona has two cool things you could check out that might be on your route. The first is a short hike to Devil's Bridge. It's not too long of a hike from a car to get there, and it's not too awful scary as far as heights go. Also, if you had a bit of time and didn't mind spending a few bucks, there is a thing called the Pink Jeep Tour in Sedona that was really fun. Can't wait to watch more of your upcoming videos!
ya i lived by the beach my whole life never noticed all the camper vans till 2020 when i found about van life on youtube, and let me tell you i see them everywhere now that i know what to look for. and when told my mom what to look for ( solar, fans on the roof) she said she never noticed them before but now she also always sees them. so yes most pepole just dont know or notice
Life hack (cutting onion) to prevent crying 😊
- before you cut, try breathing with your mouth, not with nose til you finsh cutting it, or
- you cut the root last
Prescott, AZ would be a perfect stop for you. Whiskey Row and Colt Grill!
Moab, Quartzite (camping), Bridge of the gods, Clear lake, Tahoe, Bodie, Great Salt Lake, Troll under the bridge in Seattle, Walnut Canyon National Monument, Lee's Ferry (Camping)
Creators of the Moon park in Idaho.... Gilmore Idaho, a ghost town with a spring fed lake at the top of mountain that you can drive to...those places are just a couple of cool stops. I can't wait to see where you take us next. Safe travels!
Use yellow onions first of all. It's Sweeter onion. Use a really sharp knife. Don't push the knife, saw with it. Next cut the onion in half before anything else, the onion is easier to handle after that. Just some tips
hey Ryan, I know this is a late comment but I found that when your eyes start burning from cutting the onion if you watch your knife and your hands under the sink it resets it. I know this may not be practical for van life (which I am jealous of very much) it seems to be my go to. Love the vids and love to see the journey, best of luck my dude, lets play some games
hot tip, if you leave the root top of the onion on while cutting (avoiding ofc) it wont release the chemical that causes tears. Much love keep up the good work.
Check out Oatmen, AZ while you are there. The mules running wild through the city are a kick. If you decide on Yosemite, don’t miss the Grand Tetons,,,,very beautiful and plenty of Forest Service land to stay just outside the National Park. Banff is the most beautiful place on the planet,,,DO NOT MISS OR PASS UP Lake Victoria. If you hit BC,,,head to Whistler,,,an Amazing ski town,,,great all year round.
I have lived in Tucson for 23 years. Trail Dust Town used to really be popping.
Cut that pepper lengthwise and pull the stem and seeds out by hand. You'll save the top of the pepper that way. Love the content.
Stay safe god bless
Garden of the Gods, and Manitou Springs near Colorado Springs Colorado! And the sand dunes just southWest of Colorado Springs
If you get near Wyoming go through the Wind River Canyon It is on US Hwy 20. Between Shoshoni, Wyoming and Thermopolis, Wyoming. It is an incredible ride through high canyon walls hundreds of millions of years old.
Hey Ryan! Going to rent a camper van like yours come June in Montana w/ my girlfriend. What apps would you recommend for finding suitable camping sites and and day hikes? Likely focusing around Yellowstone. You've been an inspiration for us to do this!
Lake Powell in Utah is an amazing place, great time of year to camp there. Grand Tetons/Yellowstone is awesome.
Good ideas! The town of Jackson is one of my favorites! Gros Ventre campground is awesome! The moose come thru the campground very early in the morning (@5:00 am).
From 1 Ryan to another, I never wanted to watch your videos but they kept popping up. I guess as 44 yr old I just thought of you as another millennial trying to get “famous” on CZcams. I’ll admit that, but you proved me wrong and really enjoy your videos. You keep it interesting and real and I definitely respect what you’re doing. I also should get the Ryan topographical hoodie since I’m a Ryan. Be safe and much respect Ryan!
The only thing that works for me is to hold a slice of bread in your mouth while you're slicing the onions. The bread will catch it before your eyes do. Works great. Enjoying your journey.
You need to try out mountain biking while you're on your trip. It would help you see more nature and you get to ride around on cool bike trails across the country. Been loving the videos so far. Keep up the great work man!
Hi! Welcome to TucsonAZ! Hype you enjoy your stay. Enjoy your videos👍🏾
RYAN!! Onions release a gas from them that goes to the nearest water source, which would be your eyes. So if you set a cup of water next to the onion it will go to that instead. Also try to keep the onion on the cutting board!🙏
'eeey, welcome to my neck of the world. I hope you're enjoying the trip, I've made multiple trips back and forth from AZ to NH in a car, Nothing ever beats the Arizona sunsets, or the views you get just driving through. Hope you've enjoyed the trip through!
ayyy tucson gang
You really have a sensitivity to those onions. Your fajitas looked good.
As you prepare for Alaska be aware some areas are truly miles and miles away from a fuel stop. In fact soldiers traveling there are instructed how many gallons of fuel to cover extra.
Try Claire's Lounge and Art Gallery in Oro Valley for breakfast/brunch. SUPER local, fun breakfast spot. Goyitas just down the road from there is also REALLY great food.
Hike at the Peralta Trails. Free parking for hiking at the very end of the road up to the trailhead. the views are AMAZING. Tough hikes, but SO worth it.
El Charro is pretty good, but try Los Dos Molinos. Also try the Fry Bread House in Phoenix. Totally a piece of local cuisine.
Just discovered your videos today. I am thoroughly enjoying them. I laughed too hard at you chopping onions. I learned from my fiancé if you wet your knife and the tips of your fingers that takes away the effect of onions burning your eyes.
Good afternoon as well. Safe travels always!
You cutting up the onions had me cracking up!
am i the only one who can cut onions without crying ? I mean like it literally doesn't do anything to me lol. Your videos are relaxing asf. I discovered you a few days ago and i actually wake up with a coffee watching your channel or when i just want to relax
I missed this last night but watching this morning and it’s awesome.
Yes, it would probably be a good idea to check out a place a little bit before you arrive, but either way it’s fun watching your explorations. I also think you and your van are absolutely stealth, although now that I know so many people are living in their vans, I am much more aware and basically think whenever I see one like yours, is that a stealth van?? Lol.
Also, you really need to make a Ryan’s in the van cookbook with all the recipes have made for us so far!! I would absolutely buy it.
Enjoy riding along on your southernmost to Alaska journey! Thanks
Your onion facial expressions definitely had me laughing…especially because the wet paper towel was supposed to absorb the fumes…NOT! 🤣
Nice video and good to hear your trip will be extended. We are ready to watch all those videos. Get a tow strap, have a safe trip.
Hey Ryan tip for onions from a chef. Breath though your mouth when cutting as it's the capillaries in your nose that burns and is why you don't taste with a blocked nose. Keep it up mate from Australia!
The OK Corral the famous gun fight location... and someplace along my trip there was a 1800's brothel turned museum lol gunfight bullets still in the wood
Jerome, AZ!!!! Super cool little town in the mountains! Ghost tours and restaurants. Haunted hotel!!
You should check out Banff/Canmore in Alberta and Radium Hot Springs in British Columbia! If you make it to Vancouver Island, check out Bella Pacific Campground in Tofino, you won't regret it!
You'll get your fill of mountains in British Columbia, it's such a gorgeous province!
If your heading north stop by oatman just outside of kingman az. Its a old mining town where wild donkeys walk the streets. Lots of shops and some restaurants.
FYI roads through British Columbia will be incredible snowy and hard to deal with in April
I’ve driven that road multiple times
Im from germany and love watching your videos. Thanks for showing me the states!
Wet a towel and have it next to the onion when you're cutting, the compound sticks to water and is lessened
Hi again Ryan ! I`m now watching every video of yours together with my 9 year old daughter, she just loves them, and has to watch every time a new one comes out, thanks alot for all the entertainment:) Regards from Norway, Ingrid and Martin !!🤩
You can hit the "4 corners" only spot in the entire country where you can be in 4 states at once. You're close...Just thinking outside the box?!?! 👍✌️
damn you're cruisin bro. 🤙👍
Rainy days coming. West coast the Best coast.
Run the onions under cold water before cutting. That has always worked for me.
Love the vibes in El Charro Cafe in Tucson, Arizona.
That #Chimachanga👑...it look so good bro!💎✨👌
Hi Ryan! My name is Pedonie. I’m from Page Az area and I highly recommend you driving to Alstroms point, visiting the lake, and going to the slot canyons nearby. Super beautiful! Page is a well known tourist friendly town and I believe you’ll love it!
Have you traveled thru Monument Valley to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon? If you have the time it is an unforgettable drive. The North Rim may be closed for winter. If not take a couple days to remember forever. The vistas are (add adjectives here.).
Ryan If you’re driving from Tucson I-10 thru Phoenix then you can either go to East Valley Mesa/Apache Junction Arizona Renaissance Festival or Goldfield Ghost Town. Or for food stops in Phoenix area you either need to stop at Chino Bandido Guy Fieri ate there or Little Miss BBQ or you need to stop at a Mexican Meat Market like Carnicera Sonora so you can buy some authentic carne asada and cook in your van preferably grill though then you can stop at Lake Pleasant to camp out by the biggest lake in Phoenix area. Then driving up through I-17 north to Flagstaff then stop at Rock Springs Cafe in Black Canyon City for some awesome pie 🥧!! But you do need to stop at Jerome small mining town just west of Cottonwood and Sedona.
Dude I love your videos and how real they are. As well, I love the no click bait constantly your amazing man and keep it up and we will keep following.
Omg your here in tucson were I'm at nice to see you stop by here there's a lot of good places here to visit let's get it!!.
My husband is from Tucson - love that you're there!
what helps with the onions a sip of water and hold it in your mouth for the cutting time.
Chew some gum when you cut onions! Spearmint, wintergreen, big red, or suck on minty hard candy. Or soak your onion before you do your prep of it.
You need to make a detour over to the Oregon coast, one of the most scenic drive in America.
If you wear glasses when chopping onions, it’ll help a lot. Safety glasses are the best, but I use sunglasses a lot because they’re usually handy. Safe travels my man!
Williston nd has the williston arc, the biggest best rec center in America.
