- Hi all. this video will pretty much cover the mounting process of this shoulder mount Mule in time lapse, however the facial clay work has a lower speed for those who like to pick up some tips.

When the cape is cut all the way down the neck, flat cut. Do you sew the cape's neck when it's on the form, or when off the form, and pull it over the head like with out the cut? Thank you for all your time and work you put into doing your videos and answering questions.
welcome Tim. Both method works.. have done both. but sewing the cape on the table and making into a tube with enough opening on the head part so it slips over the form is much more preferred, its faster and the skin lines up much better. so Id sew them up first.
I see you have a cape stretcher for tube capes. What's a good way to stretch a flat cape?
I really want give taxidermy ago, with the shooting season kick off over here (UK) soon I fancy trying a pheasant. My question is can't the skinned body be put into some type of mold to give a cast to use from then on, then use some type of liquid foam to spray in the moulds I made?? The price for foam bodies and especially heads seems very expensive over here.

You can mould the body or carve one out of foam. A lot of people do that and make their own bodies for bird mounts.

Tohickon eyes , van dykes are both great .. and the size depends on the form. when I order the form it recommends the eye size. cheers
Hi! I was wondering what the quality difference is between commercial tans and at home tans (like the mckenzie tan)? Will a mount start falling apart years later because of wet tans, like Mckenzie's? I am wondering if it would be worth it to get hides commercially tanned to keep the hide in better condition over the years? Or is the Mckenzie tan the same quality? Thanks for your help!
Hi … anybody can do a good tan job or a bad tan job. It has nothing to do WHERE it has been done. A lot of commercial tanneries produce the worst tan job I’ve seen in my life,,, terrible stretch , lots of holes to repair and I don’t use them. In fact when I was tanning my own hides ( when I wasn’t so busy) I did the best tan I could ever use… the reason most taxidermists use a commercial tanner ( a good one ) is not that they think it’s better it’s because they don’t have time to do it themselves. A finding a good commercial tannery is always a big job because a lot of them are not so good. All of the tans you can buy from Mackenzie or other places they work just as good if : you have the time and equipment and you are a good instruction follower. Practice on a few back hides to get your skills up.
