How to transform your front entrance

- In this video, which was filmed over 20 years ago, Bunny tackles entrances.
Front entrances often give great scope to create a wonderful first impression to your home.
This video shows some entrances that Bunny has transformed a country estate, where by redesigning the space to make the front door prominent, she reduce the possibility of people going to the other two doors, and a terrace house. Finally Bunny reuses a simple trellis porch, which she originally made for a Chelsea Flower Show garden, and reassembles it (with the help of Saint Dave) onto an unprepossessing entrance to make a small sitting space and somewhere sheltered to take your boots off outside.

I do not care if this was 20 yrs ago it is gorgeous and timeless.
Oh my goodness!!! This is stunning !!! I learned one very important thing ... I need more inspiration from Bunny !!!!
Completely and utterly stunning designs and transformations 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Very fitting for the style of house. You'll have to take us back When it's matured 😊. Lovely ❤
Oh Bunny! That 'Compass' parterre is wonderful! I adore it! With this client's rustic looking home and plain door yard, using plantings and breaking up the paved areas lightened up the space and highlighted the main door perfectly. The larger sized pebbles were indeed the right scale. The exterior textures of a home and hardscape need to be considered. You are a professional with a great artistic eye. After years of drought here in S. California, many people have replaced lawns with decomposed granite and plopped in cactus and other succulents without much design. In addition, people don't realize DG still has to be weeded, and if not contained with edging, it will wash onto the sidewalk. It's always a joy to see a drought-tolerant garden that's well done, with plantings at different levels, good color, and balance. I'm enjoying these older videos, and seeing how the gardens look now. Cheers!
That's a beautiful garden. There are many good ideas presented in this post. I put a discreet wireless doorbell on my rather ugly porch today, and I thought I have so much more to do. I started with a practical task. Now I am off to plan to make it look pretty. I like the idea of expanding the porch and steps and having plants grow in a boxed area in the steps. I think that might work for my entrance. Off to the drawing board. Thank, Bunny, for all your creative and doable ideas. I enjoy watching this channel.
Beautiful - but a tiny tip if ever you’re not sure which door is the main entrance is simply to look for the letterbox or a doorbell, maybe not 100% a sure sign but I’d say almost always x
Great video Bunny. It's fun to get a peak into different garden designs you've done. Bravo!
Looks great! Beautiful! England is beyond charming anyway.
This video is so inspiring! I feel elated with JOY after watching this! Thank you 🙏
So pretty, Bunny! You truly have vision!
I absolutely love knot Gardens!!!!!
That was fantastic!! Another vlog I will refer back to when I move to my farm!!
This is a younger Bunny!
FANTASTIC!
Just love this. Helps having such a beautiful home as a backdrop
I love the knot garden. So stunning!!
LOVE IT
I think this is had got to be my most all-time favorite video on your channel. I’ve watched it twice already! 🌳
I have no idea what possessed me to watch this video, but, oh my, am I glad I did! What a stunning transformation without building a formal archway over the door. This very British formality would transform many an ordinary house anywhere in the world. It would work in the face of climate change by modifying the types of plants chosen, but certainly boxwoods would work almost anywhere except a desert. It also looks fairly easy to maintain because you could do the maintenance in "spots" as needed. Definitely subscribed to this channel!
Great. I’d love to see a video on a sunken trampoline as this instant is the first time I’ve ever heard of such a thing, and I LOVE trampolines. Love the way you did this garden. It’s really impressive.
As always absolutely beautiful! Loved the front door update with the garden. So much inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
Loved watching this, I've saved it and will watch plenty more times for the sheer joy of gardening. X:)
Wow, Beautiful!!
Glorious!
What an incredible transformation!
Simply stunning
I like the look of this formal design. It ties in well with the old world design of the house and it feels like it’s always been there. However, I can’t be the only one wondering about the lanterns being covered up by the vine?
Love all your work.. 💌💐👌
Very, very nice indeed! I like it!
This is fabulous! Absolutely stunning!!
Inspiring! So glad to have discovered your channel! Looking forward to discovering more!
Really enjoyed this and your sharing the past show you have done is so fun!!!
Well done!!!!!
Love it.
All extremely beautiful.
Great transformation👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Bunny, you are so talented.
Love it 👏👏👏
Oohh Matron!
Well done ,so classic and beautiful, from Texas. Great info...
Such a euphemism for a title……I thought I was on the wrong website….😂
Very nice and formal and relaxing.
Oh my - that's is such an inspired transformation! Is there anywhere to see more of the garden incorporating the children's play areas?
Beautiful job, thanks for sharing, hi from New Zealand
Your work is amazing
Oh I so enjoyed this.. more please..
I'm going to take these ideas and use them in my city centre flat share with no garden , somewhere between the bins and the bus stop.
Are people who own manor houses really watching CZcams for tips for their front entrance ( about The same size as my flat)
Is the hornbeam arch two trees that bend at the top? So interesting, I never see them in the states used like this
Dear Bunny, the Trelly Arch is georgeous. ❤ Is there a Chance to get a manual or design photos as to how to plan such a project? I would like to create something similar for our cottage. Thank you!
Not very economical designs, but they all look as though we can do à lot ourselves, if not masonry and zinc...( we used to do some though😂). In all these gardens what interests me most is...maintenance. between those boxhedges, how soon and talk are grass and weeds going to find their way through? Moss on stones. But I believe I will give it a go, despite the fact that box gets attacked by strange parasites down here. Keep us posted, Madam Greengoldenfingers
I believe I recognise the gorgeous home front gardens in this video as Stamford, UK.
Boxwood, hornbeam, and holly.....common, and continual maintenance, with absolutely no benefit to nature. Classic for its time.
The narrator sounds like Liam Dale
No wheelchair access to front door! I suppose you could keep a wooden ramp nearby in the event.
Such a pity that you cannot use Box anymore. I have just lost my last four box balls that were protected in an inner isolated courtyard. I had previously lost five other ones that took me years to make.
Why can’t you use it ?
@@juliedobson3039 I lost several large one to moth and those I saved have been attacked this year, they won't survive. Most people get 'blight' so between moth and blight it isn't worth it as there are other plants that can replace them.
I like it but would've preferred something simpler, in keeping with the unadorned design of the building. The rectangular planters look really out of place for me though.
It looked better with the plants.
Wait 3 pounds each?, those go for $15 here in US
Wow! I thought £3 was a lot that is a high retail price for now. At home for myself I just take them from cuttings, very easy and no cost 🐇
I enjoy looking at beautiful old English gardens but my goodness, how many americans can afford to hire servants to maintain a knot garden or living arches around doorways? That cost and maintenance is why all the grand old manor houses are struggling to run B&B's or Wedding venues.
With climate change and loss of natural habitats, my former preference for structured gardens has moved towards gardens that are welcoming and beneficial to insects, biodiversity and cooling our planet. This garden seems dated.
Wait, is she a gardener, or house designer ❓
Personally I think this is way over the top - a complete waste of money. The front door could have been 'shown up' by just the new steps and a couple of bushes either side, with a pathway leading to it. The balcony (blocking off the sairs) to the side is well done and not fussy 👍
The arch over the door, for me, is a massive no-no because there will be insects and spiders and their webs, and other creepies dropping on you each time you enter your house - yuk ‼️😳😳
What happened to Bunny’s voice over the years. She speaks like a bought old dame now days but not before.
I'd transform her tradesman's entrance.
Thought I was going to be the only one who thought this might be an innuendo filled comedy spot!
Beautiful, however in the real world, who could afford to pay for a top garden expert to design and create a garden area. Paying for her time would be a fortune...
I think my clients save money, because we can give them supplier trade contacts which saves money, plus if you get the design right from day one you don't spend years fiddling around with a design that does not maximise your gardens potential. We work in a very collaborative way with the client on site so come up with exactly what they want. Most clients say I don't charge enough! 🐇
