As a classically trained vocalist-I can say that it is very important for any singer to know and understand the lyrics they are singing (I have sung in 12 different languages, and counting!) I was trying to learn this song for simple karaoke, but because I go hard with my 'performances' of any caliber 😅 I was looking up the slang and nuance of the words I did not understand in this song, and this video was, by far, the most helpful!! Thank you for breaking it down for me and for the rest of the internet! 🥰🗣🎵
12 languages!? That’s truly incredible 👏🏾👏🏾
Lolll I love that you do your homework and study beforehand and I’m happy I was able to help. Thanks sooo much ☺️
Why not write the lyrics for the song like any other song lyrics? Maybe with the slang words written in African slang, with the English translation in parentheses. Thanks for your efforts to teach us like you just did. God bless.
I love how you went bit by bit explaining each phrase specifically. 👍🏻 Every other explanation of this song that I could find just summed up the general idea of the entire thing (which anybody w/ a brain can understand 🤦🏻♀️). I like your clear explanation of specific words and slang. Great job! 👏🏻
Awww thank you so much. That does mean a lot because sometimes I feel I’m repeating stuff too much lol appreciate it 🤎🤎
So beautifully explained by Simbihawt for Americans! 👍🏼 Just awesome. You rock girl!
Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I love this song, but also I realize this girl shouldn’t be pressured and the guy shouldn’t act like he knows what she wants
Yes very true!
That's why I'm here. I'm like he better not be saying what I think.....😮
Thank you! I love this song!
I’m very thankful for your share on this song. I love this song and your work here has made it clearer for me. 🙏🏻
😂😂😂 he needs a cold shower. !! Haha. It’s such a great dance 💃 tune!!😂😂😂.
Thanks! I think it was "mostly" what I thought...however the "chewing gum" bit, I think I misunderstood, so I did learn THAT!
This song is waaaaay to catchy. It's been stuck in my mind for a bout three days now.
Lol this song is very catchy! Also my translations aren’t always exactly right so don’t throw your chewing gum understanding out too soon 🙂
I understood this part like : her friends are going to judge her because often when someone shines in a group of "friends", the others start to talk bad, spread rumours and finally reject that person ... am i wrong ?
"GO dey gum her" ... is that future ? otherwise he would have used past or present if the friends had already let her alone ?
@cotehublotvoyage.. that's more like it. Nice job by simbihawt but she didn't get that part ryt
It more like her friends were too clingy hence the insecurities. Naija girls sabi spoil their friends mind when it comes to guys (Nigeria girls tend to give their friends bad impression about a would be boyfriend).
Superb explanation
Anada Banga!
😂 yes indeed!
You are great at what you’re doing love you! Perfect
Thank you❤
Thanks for the explanation... kudos!

I loved your video... You are so beautiful!!!!!
Kisses from Argentina
Thank you so much🤎
Very necessary sis. I kill ‘em doing Afrobeats karaoke. You just took my game NEXT LEVEL!
😂😂 glad this is helpful !!
Is this song spoken in one dialect, or is it a mix of Nigerian/Yoruba/English? I'm not sure where to start, but I'd really love to learn more about it! This video was so helpful for learning all the details and nuances, thank you so much!! 😊
You’re welcome ☺️. It’s a mixture of English, Nigerian Pidgin English and a few slangs/expressions home to the Nigerian culture. There is no Yoruba in the song (although I mentioned it in the beginning of the video). Hope this helps!
@@Simbihawt Definitely does!! Thanks again
Beautiful
Thanks and yes, Rema did his thing ☺️
Nice translation👌
Please am waiting for asake yoga song🙏🏾
Thank you and yes I plan to upload the Yoga translation tomorrow 🙂
The translation has been uploaded now. Hope you enjoy!
I thought her friends gumming her meant that they would talk about her and subject her to peer pressure. Thanks for the breakdown.
Well done.
Thanks ☺️. Always appreciate your support!
There's a word missing in the lyrics, he is singing "baby... calm down "a-loop" "calm down "a-loop"
He is not just saying "baby calm down baby calm down"
Surely I'm not the only one hearing this.
I listened again and I don’t hear it. Only thing I hear is an instrument. I’m not sure
The shew gum part meant her friends were too close to her and they dont eant to leave ....
Oh okay thank you
But why is he telling her to calm down?
He is saying she is so beautiful that her beauty and her everything is too much for him to handle. His heart melts. Calm down with her beauty is essentially him complimenting her
@@Simbihawt Awww 🥰
Thanks for the explanation!!
