It's amazing what you can find in the woods. Like that mic and headphones.
+The Shard You just have to walk long enough
+jahenders hahaha yeah XD
Remeber the old days when you could find porn in the woods.
+Jordyn Wingate ummmm.......
you can even find a payphone like the one in hello song by Adele
In my town, there was an actual hanging tree. It hasn't been used since the 18-19th century
Cool
Thank god it hasn't been used since then
I can change that :D
Care to join me?
afootineachworld in the hanging tree
"I told you to run so we'd both be free" never fails to give me shivers. It makes me think of a spouse's love that "if you live, then so do I. But if you die, then my heart dies with you."
True
That's beautiful to me.
Wow. That's deep
I know this is very old now, but all of the lyrics are explained in the book Ballard of songbirds and snakes. But no spoilers from me, so I just recommend you read the book
@benwillingham8981 What if I asked for spoilers?
in the book it's "necklace of rope" and that's just creepier and better
I can go either way with it.
To call a hangman’s noose a ‘necklace of hope’ is deeply unsettling. It paints a picture that the world the singer is living in is so bleak and painful that death via hanging is the best way to escape from it. It would be better to die with your love than suffer in this life.
Maybe that’s just me looking too much into it. I dunno.
Bowser it fits the books though
It says that on the subtitles
It's to avoid legal troubles.
The original is "rope", in both the movie and the book they change it to "hope" so it would fit the rebellion. The necklace of hope also gives connotations of "We will be free or we will die trying" or even the American revolutionary saying "Give me liberty or give me death."
This song on its own is creepy but a giant group of people singing it and the atmosphere combined made 10x creepier
It's a song of calling Death herself to War. It's meant to be terrifying.
they mentioned the original line and the reason they changed it too
It’s a song of hope for me, the chorus is a song of people rising against tyranny
Doge wizard I see it the same way, depending on the ambient of it. With the group, it does. With a solitary singer, it sounds more so an invitation to die alongside a loved one
Just imagine it was a choir of children singing this
The line, "Wear a necklace of hope, side by side with me..." always gives me chills...
Bryan Macias in the books it's a necklace of rope which gives me even more chills
Bryan Macias That line is so sad and has such a determined spirit at the same time.
Yea they changed it in the movie to be more pg
GH0ST JED1 yeah but they said it
GH0ST JED1 in the movie the characters changed it for it to be more empowering for the rebelion
My favorite thing about this cover is how it starts out quietly, and gradually gets more and more insistent - partly through thicker background vocals and getting louder, until the chorus enters. Gives me chills every time.
After hearing this yet again... I realized, I rather wish Peter had gone with the book-original song of "necklace of rope". Hope is stronger, but rope gives it much more of the proper, eerie quality.
True, but calling a hangman’s noose a ‘necklace of hope’ is a sickening concept. Imagine living in a world full of pain and agony and being so helpless that you can’t change it that a noose gives you hope. Dying is the only alternative, as there’s nothing else left.
@@awesometown1000 and it's even more significant thinking of the song as a call to resist the people who made the world like that and change it.
It's explained in the prequel novel.
The book and the movie both use 'necklace of hope' in the version that is aired by District 13 because Plutarch thinks it will be more inspiring to the rebels.

This song makes me think of my friend that just hung himself last week.....................
Peter can you do Mary did you know
Amazing sir. Thanks so much for doing this one.
Amazing!! The voices are all so mesmerising together~ Thank you for the beautiful music. Could you do "Seize the day" from Newsies??
it makes me think that he's being Katniss's father singing this to her when she's a baby or little girl
WE NEED THIS IN THE MOVIE
that would explain her epicnes.
ikr
Which means Peter died in an explosion. Great.
such a wonderful idea *-*
I actually just realized how Genius it is to do the instruments with your voice. Not only does it add something unique and interesting, but you can make any song without instruments. That's such a great idea.
It also adds a different feel to the song. In-universe, this is a song written by people without access to real instruments, and with possessions tightly controlled enough that they can’t make improvised ones. All they have is their voices to make music with.
Came back to this and it's eight years old. Still my favourite cover of this song! He has such a lovely voice!
I liked but then noticed I messed up a magic number 🤭
FIRST!!! I WIN!!
I'm getting chills right now- SO GOOD
Peter, I don't think it counts when you upload the video!
I think you should sing it with violin in background. Maybe with Taylor Davis.
Meh. This time.... This cover is flawless. I love your voice and I think it's incredible that you can make these videos. Keep up this amazing work. ♥

That's good!

This song hits so much different after reading "A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes". Seeing the event that inspired the song and meeting the author of the song, so much more impact, and that is saying something.
Damn, I can easily picture you being Katniss' father, with all the birds around you keeping silence so they can hear you.

Hi Evynne Hollens:
May I have permission to use this song for animation purposes?
Specifically, for a message to everyone who lost their love ones to the pandemic, or any situation in that matter. Just to let everyone know that we may have lost them that day, and it will require patience, but we will find them again as long as we can see only the greatest of memories that bonded all of us together. 😌

I’m getting bored
I like how he said "hope" but the captions said "rope." A nice touch
1:43 And so, the 13 Divisions of the Resistance Army rose up and rallied behind General Hollens against the First Order.
Oh wait this isn't Star Wars

lol no its from hunger games

Yaas! So true c:

Peeta Hollens.
Honestly, I know some people prefer “Necklace of Hope” But honestly, as the meaning is a man who was hung wanting his lover to run away with him, then hang next to him, it makes more sense and gives it the haunting melody.
Now the new movie has come out, this hits way harder. Beautiful voice!
I was wondering the entire time if he would say necklace of rope or hope. In the book it's rope and it says things about when they were young of Prom and Katniss making necklaces of rope. It was later changed in the movies to wear a necklace of hope, but both versions make sense.
if you watch movie carefully you can find a moment when Plutarch says that he changed original "rope" for "hope", so that sounds more suitable for propo
Vld1822 Plutarch's a freaking genius... Who was your favorite character from The Hunger Games?
Kawai Penguin Senpie if you look in the captions, it says "necklace of rope," but it sounds like he says "necklace of hope"
I think that the necklace of rope also could mean a noose or something, because the whole thing is about a tree where people hang themselves
youre right...they are talking about a noose.
I love that you had 13 other people singing with you, one for each of the districts in the hunger games.
I got goosebumps when they all started singing together, great version of a great song.

He just has the voice
For anyone who didn’t read the books, this song is literally about a forced double suicide...
I think it is about the last chapters in the 4th book, regarding the Snow - Lucy Gray thing
I haven't read the books, but i've seen the movies ♥
"Forced"? I doubt it.
Nope if youve red the newest book you know that it was made of lucy gray after a haniging of a rebell.
Not a forced, just that to be the free the only option is death in the point of view of the singer. So he's trying to get his lover to come with and be free with him.
I love the haunting sad element to this song. I was too young understand the lyrics when it first came but man, when you hear the lyrics it adds a whole level of meaning to the song. The harmonies add to the etherealness, wow! 💯😢💜
the only reason this is so haunting is because it was written and performed in a minor key. if they wrote this in a major key, it would sound much different and much less eerie. that's one of the many reasons that I love this song. this version of it especially makes it eerie and creepy and IT'S SO COOL!
Major vs minor is an interesting thing, however I think the lyrics talking about suicide, execution, and running away make it eerie all on its own.
iused2becool that too. I'm a musician so I usually think about the musical side of it. but the lyrics are also a big part of it
the lyrics are so creepy ^-^
The Doctor I totally agree with you, that and the color of the setting
Thanatos VII the song is creepy and eerie without that setting but the setting adds so much to it
The thing that makes me cry every time I watch this is that I start imagine the different voices as all of the people who've died
The higher pitched female voices as Rue and Prim, the lower female voices as Katniss and Clove, the deep male voice as Thresh.
I can't listen to it without crying now.
The feels, man.
Katniss didn’t die?

Well in the books it was "necklace of rope" so it is indeed, dark.
@@l.s.1235 in the movie it was 'necklace of rope" originally but was changed to "necklace of hope" before being used in a propaganda video to rally the districts together to fight for the rebellion

Abel Erculano but district 13 is not part of the hunger games, there are only 12 in the games:)
I thought I was the only one who counted them
Alexandra Radu Great minds think alike.
I've been listening to this song nearly all day. You even got me to sing along. I haven't done that in years! I love this song!
I have neither read the book nor watched the movie so I have no idea what the story line or plot is. But this music is so compelling, so haunting, so powerful it is something I cannot nor will not forget. As Meeseeks aptly notes, it is the minor key in which this is sung that gives the song its power and depth. Thanks, Peter, for making us, as Tolkien wrote, "glad that through you great beauty has been wakened inn song."
@HQ What about 4 years?
Simply put, the context of the scene is Katniss recalling a song from her childhood to rally the resistance together. In the movie, they added a scene where an army of rebels from District 5 sing as they march on the hydroelectric dam that gives the Capitol its power, pushing bombs into the entrances as hundreds of them are gunned down. They took a scene that was just a normal part of the book, and made it into the single best part of the entire series.
@Shifsabre You're forgetting about the prequel, too. When Lucy Gray Baird sings the song, it references about the actual hanging spot that the Peacekeepers do. This was also a secret message to say to Billy Taupe, Lucy Gray's former lover, to meet up somewhere not many people often go due to negative connections to the place. When Lucy Gray does fall in love when Coriolanus Snow, she sings the song to him to meet up there without raising suspicions so they could escape together with no-one knowing.
Wait - did Tolkien say that about the Music of the Ainur? I mean, I'm not saying it's a wrong comparison...
@@jessicacaron5084 I compared this piece to "The Music of the Ainur" because although it starts out with a single voice, it is transformed into a choral performance. In Tolkien's story, it is a chorus of the Ainur which creates the World.
I never realized what a haunting song this was! I've got chills running up my spine!

I like the fact that, at all proffesionality, your voice still sounds very natural. That's what I love about your songs!
Words literally can not express how much I love this version! His voice is so calming 🥰
Thanks for making this song what it should actually sound like! I find it slightly disturbing that Hanging Tree has turned into some sort of techo/rave track that's currently a hit on the radio. I mean... it's literally a song about a guy asking if his love will come hang herself next to him. It was meaningful in the books, but why is this a thing? So, great job with this version Peter!
BREAK THE DAM! RELEASE THE RIVER!
I understood that reference.
DestinyofKenobi I understood THAT reference
:D Finally, someone who speaks English.
They come with fire, they come with axes... gnawing, biting, breaking, hacking, burning! Destroyers and usurpers, curse them!
Side? I am on nobody's side, because nobody is on my side, little Orc.
I just found this version. I love it. I always loved this song from the book and was excited when they movie used it and made it a real track. The small line change of wear a necklace of hope from wear a necklace of rope was fit the movie well. There was more of a background story on this song and how Katniss' father taught it to her as a kid in the book so rope worked better than hope in the novel. But since that was taken out of the film the line change worked. And It made the song even more beautiful and haunting. Anyways great cover.

Chilling!
Great vocals Peter!
3:20 is anybody else having the song freeze and stop playing here?? Is it a corrupted file?
"Carry on My Wayward Son" would be AWESOME!!
The wonderful thing is that, everytime I listen to one of your songs, I completely stop thinking and can't remember what I wanted to do a sec before.
Awesome job !
Hahah, that's awesome! Thank you :D
Am I the only one who plays this on loop? I find it very soothing and intriguing to have playing in the background. The repetitious flow helps me ignore distractions.
Not a Hunger Games fan, but I still love this song. I am a Kirby fan, so I personally imagine this (specifically the part with everyone singing) being sung by the Galactic Soldier Army at some point, both those who perished, and those who remain.
