@@MusicShed You and Justin in a mutual interview ('cause that's what happens whenever people interview him) would be a hoot ... he's genuinely a fun guy to listen to talk and you two would have much to talk about. He's music's Russell Brand.

Marie, Justin ( Darkness) is blatantly Influenced by UK 70''s glam rockers
" The Sweet" check " Fox on the Run" ( 74) and you'll see exactly what I mean. This sounds far more llike a Sweet song than Queen or ACDC 💯

yes, he can do this vocal live. he also has a CZcams channel called Justin Hawkins Rides Again. the band still tours and makes new music. their current drummer Rufus Taylor is the son of Roger Taylor, since you mentioned the Queen influence.

Justin can kill just about any vocal live or otherwise. He is a very interesting, kind, and intriguing artist. He has a channel on youtube where he reacts to others vocals, songs, and plays his guitar along with the songs. He figures out the key/chords/arrangement when he listens to others songs. He likes collaborating with other youtubers during interviews, etc.

  • @OfMaceAndMen

Justin, even 20 years later can still smash the arse off these high notes.
    Mans an icon.
As a LONG time The Darkness fan, I actually think a bunch of their later albums are even better than their first album.
For even wackier, wilder high notes from Mr Hawkins, listen to their track Barbarian - off of 2015s Last of Our Kind.

If you want to hear Justin do that head-voice to chest-voice switch with no effects, pull up one of his videos from his channel, Justin Hawkins Rides Again. He sings an intro song just using his studio mike and acoustic guitar. It's amazing how clearly and naturally he can do it. He performed at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert with Queen and other bands (with the obligatory multiple catsuit changes). The Darkness is also going on tour this year.

it's true about the marshall les paul setup. I have a jcm 900 and a 70s lawsuit les paul copy (Ibanez but plays and sounds exactly the same as the gibson). the key is to let the tubes get REALLY warm and either crank the volume or use a power break or whatever. mine has a switch to put it to a lower wattage so I can get that nice tone at lower levels.. it's still loud as hell though lol. getting the levels and eq right are finicky and some people hate on the 900s because if you get it wrong it can sound trashy.. but if you dial it in right it sounds gorgeous. but yeah the LP and Marshall combo is magical and I'm glad I never had the money to dump into pedals because it helped me to learn how to get the most out of my amp
