Thank you so much for giving the details of screw size etc. No one else tells you
Thanks - Great detail. Nobody tells us normally how to screw these things together!
Your welcome.
I was thinking of doing a bed like this for my room it’s a small space so I have no storage do u think this work using chests of drawers instead?
cat approves too :) great, helpful video!
Thanks 😉
I know I’m so late to this, but what’s the weight limit with this?
We did this and it looks great!
Awesome hope my video helped,
How's it holding up?
Thank you I was looking for a better diy
Your welcome!
If only it becomes available to purchase where I live😂 it’s been sold out forever
I looked at the shelfs you linked and there is the same looking one for 90 would that still be sturdy enough? I can send a link to show you what im talking about.
We were planning on making a bed like this for my room, but my mom is wondering if instead of making the slats and screwing them in, if getting a set of bed slats from IKEA and throwing it on top of the shelves would work
Yes that will work fine. I just saved some money doing it my way is all. 👍
Thinking about doing this for my daughters full size bed but want to put a twin trundle underneath. Would this work if you put the third shelf between the two side shelves to create more space and reverse the ends. What would you suggest to accommodate a twin mattress underneath?
I’ll have to think about this and get back to you.
I used the Kallax (3) for my teen daughter’s queen bed. I used a sheet of plywood on top to hold the mattress. We since moved and had to downsize to a twin but the mattress keeps slipping all the time. What do you recommend.
We don’t have the plywood installed yet (need to cut it) we just have the mattress on top of the kallax
Do you have 3 of the kallax like I have in the video?
Thanks for the video. With my math, your mattress would hang off the edge of it a little, is that the case?
If I were to do this instead with a queen mattress and box spring, would I still need to add support in the middle?
The box spring would be your support. Though it will be pretty high in the air with the box spring. Might look funny. You will need bigger sheets to hang down and cover the box spring.
Do you have a link to the cabinet at the end with the doors?
I installed the cabinet doors myself. They are an accessory for the cube shelf’s. You install them separately and put them into the cube. Kallax line. Google that and you should find them.
One more question, if I use the 1x4 and a box spring, would I still need the slats? What would be the best way to secure the box spring?
Box spring would support wait depending on the overlap. You want a bigger space to accommodate the trundle so I would probably use slats as well. My space was small compared to what your trying to do.
I was going make one for my twins . But think I'll put some struts down to floor. I'm not convinced screws into chipboard will take them jumping around like they do
Yeah by all means do that if you feel they will break it. This works fine for someone just getting into bed and sleeping and not horsing around. 👍
for the middle part- (the one where you took out some of the cubes for an entrance)- can you please possibly send a link? I can't seem to find it.
it's the exact same shelf just the middle is gone for the entrance :)
what size mattress is this? here in the uk we have single, small double, double ,queen, king, superking
This is called a full. So probably a double in your country.
What are the diameter of the screws and drill bit that you used?
I think I was using 2” screws and 1 1/4 screws. Use drill it’s that a just a little bit smaller then your screw.
Is there any way you can do this with a twin?
Measure the mattress you want to use then the shelf’s. You may only need to cube shelf’s back to back. I’m not sure I used a full mattress.
6 months down the line, how solid is the bed? does it comfortably hold a person's weight?
My 120lb teenage daughter seems to have no issues with it.
Is the mattress a few inches longer than the base? I’m planning on making this and was trying to plan it out and looking at the measurements of the shelves vs the mattress the mattress is a couple inches longer. Am I measuring wrong or?
No I have a full mattress on there and the base is like an inch longer then the mattress.
@@TheOutdoorsDaddy thanks for the reply and for the video! I’ll be putting mine together next week!
is it strong enough to be away from the wall?
I would say yes. If you do make sure you secure the slates so there is no way it can spread apart.
Hi, what size mattress do you have on top? Thank you !!
Full
What kind of doors did you use on the end.

Hello, I see the link for the cube storage, but the cupboard or tv stand at the end. Where is the link for that, or what do I search on IKEA?
You mean the little storage area at the end? It’s the same cubes as the side. You can buy the little doors they just slide in. I’m not sure of the name I’ll try to look them up later.
how sturdy is this? do you think it would support a fully grown adult?
I suppose my teenage daughter sleeps on it she’s like 115
Hey, great job. Did you have any issues with mold? Considering the furniture is on a carpet, are you concerned about mold growing underneath the ikea shelves?
Never had any issues.
Brilliant, Thanks! Keep it up
IKEA furniture is known to not be made very well and doesn't last long. do you have any tips for making it sturdy and safe?
Well that’s not true I have book shelves, chairs and other items from IKEA. I have not had any problems. The way I built this platform bed it’s nice and sturdy my 130lb daughter has had no issues.
What are the measurements when it’s put together
73”x 57 1/2”
I didn’t measure down to the 1/8 but that’s roughly what the measurements are.
Hey is this a single or double? What are the measurements ?
It’s called a “full” not sure of the measurements I’m not home right now.
How much weight can it hold
I can lay on it and it’s not breaking and I’m 170lbs.
What would be the max weight for a bed like this?
No clue depends on how many supports you add. You can add more then me though. This is just an example of what I did for a 15 year old girl.
@@TheOutdoorsDaddy thanks
So what size ultimately is that bed? Is it a queen or ?
Full.
@@TheOutdoorsDaddy great! Thanks so much for the reply 👍
How many do you think you’ll need for a queen bed?!
You could probably use 3 but would need a different mattress support method.
I was wondering the same thing
I’m trying to figure out how to do this for a queen size too 🤔 lmk if any of y’all figure it out plz
Do you think it will support an adult
It sure could.
I can not imagine that this holds!?
Still holding strong, thanks for asking.
Is that for a full size bed or twin? Just asking bc it looks like for a twin
Full.
What size bed was this for?
FULL 👍
Will it work for a Twin Size bed
Any suggestions for steps?
A simple ladder at an angle and attached with some L brackets could work. My younger kids just step on the bookshelf to get up. The older kids just hop in.
