I was there too. My father grew up without a father because he gave up his life far away from home for a few crazy people. My grandfather looked like I look today. It was the fall of 1963 that myself and my entire family landed in Europe, and my dad was based out of Camp New Amsterdam, Zeist, Netherlands, 32nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron ( The Wolfhounds!), and while waiting for the school stuff to get going, we toured the beaches of Normandy. I was about 9 or 10 at that time so it really didn't mean much to me then. Fast forward to the mid fall of 1978 and I was once again in Europe only this time, as a young combat hardened SF medic with a thorough knowledge of what I was gazing upon. All those sands, and all that water and the stillness of the air with the overhanging ever present gray skies with absolutely no noise other than the light breeze one would hear and feel blowing in from the North Sea. Late in the afternoons, in my own mind, I could hear the sounds of artillery fire, the rapid cracks of M-1 Grande's and the roar of German shore batteries... Its still all there to this very day. All the beaches, the bunkers, the gun emplacements , everything. The local towns have been mostly restored to what they use to look like as your videos have and will continue to show. Every single time I hear this opening music I weep openly and un-ashamed for all those we lost on both sides of the line. These people, these giants, who came from every walk of life, every town, village, city and rural area gave us all so very much , it's impossible to extend to them the grattitude and honor of walking and standing where they once were and forever shall be. These people, they remember us and they recall us very well... You and your research, and all of these great videos provide us with an inside look at how it was and is . Back in 1994 , I had an older neighbor who was nicknamed " Lefty " . One day while I was sitting in his kitchen I noticed some Military Artifacts and pictures on the wall . I asked him if he was in Korea or WW II ? He said " I was a Ranger in the D Day Invasion in WWII . I was shot 3 times ". I was Silent for a moment and then said " You got shot 3 times ?" He said " As we Jumped out of the Landing boats , we held our Rifles over our head and above the water . 2 bullets broke my rifle into pieces and another one bounced off my helmet " . Lefty was a short Man , Maybe 5ft 5" and thats what saved his life as the machine guns ripped across everyone else . He told me that they had an 85% Mortality Rate that day . His nick-name was " Lefty " but I think it should have been " Lucky ". RIP Lefty . You are not Forgotten.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

It makes me sad to just think about what all our soldiers went through and to see pictures of then and now is heart breaking. I salute 🫡 all of the men and women who served fought and died for our country then and now. May all of the perished rest in peace and to all who survived I wish you all the best 🫡
So many soldiers have their lives so that we could be free. May they rest in peace.

先人の苦労された場所は未来永劫残して欲しい、大変感動しました。
Wow this is so moving - I feel both sad for men who lost their lives and proud of their achievement 💕
My Dad was in D-Day with the 275th Royal Engineers attached to the 51st Highland Div 🏴 I have sent his papers to the Royal Engineers Museum in Chatham, Kent, England. I hope future scholars find them enlightening. 🌺
Brilliant, what a legacy you must be so proud of
@thehistoryexplorer thank you. He gave seven years of his life for King and Country, I'm very proud of his service.
Not far from my home we have the "Sheriffmuir coastal defences". These were replicas of the coastal defences built in rural Scotland for troops to practice & try out new weapons before D-Day. Not much left after they blew them to pieces, but a poignant reminder of the war.
🫡🇺🇸 A very big and great full salute to all of the brave men of one of our greatest generations to have fought and died on that glorious day in History and for truly changing the tide of the War forever indeed!👍.
God bless all the soldiers that fought and gave their lives for this Country!!!
Why do it feels like I have a rock in my chest every time I see this kinds of ww2 pictures. 😢
This picture shows what the word brave look like. Respect to the both sides who fought the war.
That definitely was a good one.
Thank you 🙏
These pics are so incredible and moving. My dad was in the Atlantic and the Pacific in WWII in 13 battles. He was in the amphibious group and he had lots of horror stories to tell but he was one of the lucky ones to make it home. He is survived by two daughters, two grandsons, five great-grandchildren and three great-great children who are all grateful for his and all the sacrifices of The Greatest Generation. We are all free because of the brave. We will never forget!! Love you dad! 🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸⭐️
God bless our heroes from the greatest generation who saved our world!
The world is a better place because of the soldiers who fought for the future of the country.
your background music, moves so many hearts, words cant explain the emotions

Excellent!!
Many thanks!
Thank you! I saw it with my dad years ago. The personal accounts you hear while visiting and then to see the cemetery. Those men were so brave and so young. True heroes.

I was Silent for a moment and then said " You got shot 3 times ?"
He said " As we Jumped out of the Landing boats , we held our Rifles over our head and above the water .
Życie dla Narodu jest Cała Ludzkość jego Narodu łączyć się z Bogiem 🙏
