Yeah robot wars in the UK predates BattleBots by a couple of years, and with both shows it’s amazing to see how much the technology develops throughout the series/seasons. Robot Wars first series was won by a wedge with traffic signs on it, the seventh was won by a devastating full body spinner that actually demolished part of the (bomb and bullet proof) arena 😅

I have never seen a hammer bot have any real success. Beta is probably the best. But could anyone really believe that a hammer bot like Beta could stand up to Tombstone or another horizontal spinner?
Its an excellent design. its the only big one hard hit bot which can't be flipped over, that's normally their weakness, also its fairly quick for a bot with a hammer like that
Beta needs something that easily allows them to see when the hammer is alligned, Something as simple as how the driver of Ziggo on the old BattleBots had an antenna would do the trick.
Not to say hammer bots are useless. Of course there have been some wins by hammer bots. But really? Are we going to say that they are a better design than some of these horizontal spinners? Or vertical spinners.
Here's a little story about John Reid and Beta. John built Beta to be the spiritual successor of Killerhurtz and Terrorhurtz. It was built without compromise and was supposed to be his magnum opus bot. He was going to enter it last season, but his flight fucked them over, and some of Beta's parts never made it overseas, forcing Beta to forfeit. 13 years before, Beta tried to enter the last season of Comedy Central Battlebots and also had to forfeit. Meaning, this bot never fought and sat around for 14 years before finally making it to this season. It became even more hilarious when the damn thing fell off its cart entering the arena, as if the robot gods themselves were conspiring against this bot. But the best thing about the whole situation is the fact that Beta's first ever opponent is named FUCKING LUCKY!!!

This really speaks volumes to the driving skill of Gary Gin. Even with a problematic weapon he held out to the end. When his flipper first got stuck he tried to use it as a grappling arm to hopefully lift BETA out of the arena or, failing that, at least stall for time and rack up some control points. Once it got back down, he was able to get some successful flips, even with a poorly designed flipper, that would have defeated BETA if it was unable to self-right.
you don't know how much its changed, the featherweight hypnodisc 360 has more kinetic energy that actual hypnodisc, carbide/ cobalt would destroy any old UK bots... internally they are much more powerful, lipos and better motors
Beta is, for my money the best hammer bot in the competition. It has quick and nimble steering and maneuverability along with an effective and devastating weapon with a high strike rate and good accuracy. But I think what makes Beta such a great robot and a serious contender in this tournament, is what you can see in this match in it's effective self righting. The reason it can self right so easy is because of the way Beta is built. Beta is a perfect pyramid shaped machine, so every time it gets flipped, it always lands on its hammer, so a simple firing of the hammer allows Beta to do a perfect somersault and get back on its feet easily. Because of this design, flippers are basically useless against Beta, unless they can flip it completely out of the arena.
I suppose you're correct but I don't see it winning the competition. I think I high powered bot which largely relies on it's drive train will get the upper hand.

Terrorhurtz from robot wars came 4th in series 6 with an axe after winning a ton of rounds through knock out.
