Oops! F-750 Dump Truck Hauling Concrete Away with Volvo EC 55B Mini Excavator Load Out

  • Even the simplest of hauling tasks can take extra time when you aren't paying attention. Actually there are two different instances of mishap in this video that cost us a little extra time but fortunately nobody was hurt. We tackle a little evening project that stretches into two nights, where we haul some old junk concrete off a cleanup site to a new location where it will be used as erosion control. Hey, I'll take any excuse to get to run the F 750 dump truck and Volvo EC 55B mini excavator.

    I like watching someone who not only shows us what projects he is working on, but also shows us his screw ups. For I know, we are all human and we ALL make mistakes. I like the old saying: "You have to learn from other peoples mistakes, because there is not enough time to make all the mistakes yourself." Glad you were not hurt. (I thought you were going to have to use a bolt cutters to cut the chain.)

      Thanks Gene. I appreciate that so much. One of my goals of making these videos is to accurately represent what goes into all these little projects and jobs that I get to do. Part of being accurate is being honest about the little screw ups and mishaps. I love the old saying that you quoted. I don't know that I've heard that before but it makes perfect sense. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care!

    Ahhh man I hate when that happens. Fortunately the bucket didn’t swan dive onto the hood of the truck. Mine would have!
    I saw that snag coming... I thought first that the big chunks on top were going to slide back and wedge under the tailgate... then I thought you forgot to release the tailgate... then I saw the chain was engaged... all of that processed in about 2 seconds. Had you been operating that dump truck from my recliner, you could have easily avoided that snag!!!
    But one thing you did prove... concrete chunks don’t tailgate worth a darn!

      Gives new meaning to the term "hindsight"! Boy, you're right though, those chunks don't flow out of there too smoothly do they!? Well, I'm glad that nothing worse happened from all the hiccups on that little project. Just serves as a reminder that even the simplest of jobs or tasks can still create huge problems if not careful. Thanks again for watching!

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  Před 3 lety +3

      Yeah, no joke! I think what contributed to this was mainly the fact that it had a piece of concrete pinched in there and the force was greater than normal. Plus, this bucket has a different style of bucket connector which makes it more prone for this type of thing I believe. But you're right, we tend to take unnecessary chances and not think too much about it. In this case it was a nice reminder of the dangers at hand without the misfortune of someone getting hurt. Thanks for checking it out Tony!

    Not a dump truck driver that hasn't done that or got chunk of concrete caught up in tailgates. My uncle was driving my dump while we were digging his pool. Was gone long time. Well he forgot to unlock tailgate and dump the dirt on slopes of lake. Well he finally got back to job soak and wet. My dump stood up on tailgate. Then went rest of the way over on roof. He jumped out in time before in hit on roof but he was over the lake. Took Gradall over and got it out. Just damages to hood and windshield got lucky there but stupid stuff happens. But learned when hauling concrete I chain my tailgate almost flat so stuff slides right out.

    I enjoy watching your videos . But this is a rookie mistake. You only do it once unless you are not that bright lol. The first thing I notice when you were backing up is that you left the chains on and I thought that big piece of concrete was going to role right over the back of the tailgate. One has to get in the habit of never ever leaving the chains on after spreading stone . And when walking around the back of the truck to look at wear your chains are and if the tailgate is locked properly. I have seen trucks tip over doing exactly what you have done there and it is a very dangerous thing . You were lucky you were dumping on the flat especially in a single axle.

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  Před 3 lety

      Thanks, I appreciate that you like the videos. Any you're exactly right, this is a rookie type of mistake but unfortunately I think I've got too many years under my belt to be considered a rookie any more. I wish I could blame it on that though rather than just absent mindedness. My problem came from being in a hurry and as you said, not removing the chains after the last job where I had been spreading. And, as I mentioned in the video, it was just "dumb, dumb, dumb" on my part! But, that is the reality of working with heavy equipment. As soon as you start to get comfortable, something is likely to happen to remind you of how dangerous it can all be. I too have seen trucks stand up on end from loading the gate with material that won't come out and it is a scary scene for sure. Now, I'll have this as a strong reminder for the next time for sure and hopefully it will make someone else think about checking their chains before they dump. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Take care.
