  • The Iconic Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 (2006): A Legend on and off the Road
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120, a mid-size SUV, is one of the most iconic vehicles to come out of Toyota's production line. Launched in 2002 and continuing its production until 2009, the 2006 model year of the Land Cruiser Prado 120 represents a harmonious blend of power, luxury, and off-road prowess. Over the years, this vehicle has garnered a massive following worldwide, and for good reason.
    Design and Off-Road Capability
The Land Cruiser Prado 120 boasts a robust and rugged design that exudes confidence. Its strong body-on-frame construction ensures durability, making it the perfect companion for any adventure, on or off the road. The vehicle's front fascia is dominated by a distinctive grille and sleek headlights, giving it an imposing and timeless appearance.
One of the standout features of the Prado 120 is its off-road capability. Equipped with Toyota's renowned four-wheel-drive system, it can conquer rough terrains and challenging obstacles with ease. The vehicle's ground clearance and approach/departure angles provide impressive off-road credentials, making it a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.
    Luxurious and Spacious Interior
Step inside the Land Cruiser Prado 120, and you'll be greeted by a spacious and comfortable interior that caters to both the driver and passengers. The cabin is meticulously designed, using high-quality materials and featuring ergonomic controls, ensuring a pleasurable driving experience.
Seating up to seven passengers, this SUV offers ample legroom and headroom, making long journeys comfortable for all occupants. The versatility of the seating arrangement allows for various configurations, providing generous cargo space when needed.
    Performance and Fuel Consumption
Under the hood, the 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 typically came equipped with a 4.0-liter V6 gasoline engine. This powerplant delivers an impressive output of around 245 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, providing ample power for both city driving and off-road adventures. The engine is paired with a smooth and responsive automatic transmission, further enhancing the overall driving experience.
As for fuel consumption, the Land Cruiser Prado 120 strikes a reasonable balance between performance and efficiency. On average, the 4.0-liter V6 engine achieves around 13 to 15 miles per gallon (MPG) in city driving and approximately 18 to 20 MPG on the highway. These figures may vary depending on driving habits, road conditions, and other factors. It's worth noting that while fuel efficiency is not the Prado's primary selling point, the trade-off is well worth it for the power and capabilities it offers.
    Safety and Technology
Toyota has always been committed to ensuring safety, and the Land Cruiser Prado 120 is no exception. The vehicle comes equipped with a range of safety features, including multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, and traction control, among others. These systems work harmoniously to provide a safe driving environment for both the driver and passengers.
In terms of technology, the 2006 Prado model may not be as advanced as some of the newer SUVs, but it still offers a decent array of features, including a user-friendly infotainment system, climate control, and power accessories.
    Conclusion
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 (2006) remains a legendary and sought-after SUV even years after its initial release. Its blend of luxury, off-road capability, and reliability makes it a top choice for those seeking adventure without compromising on comfort. While fuel consumption may not be its strongest suit, the Land Cruiser Prado 120's overall performance, durability, and timelessness more than make up for it. Whether you're embarking on a thrilling off-road journey or navigating city streets, this SUV proves its worth and continues to be a symbol of Toyota's commitment to quality and excellence.

Out of curiosity, there has obviously been many mods made to your prado to get clearance and make it a more suitable offroad vehicle. What I'm more intrigued by is that water crossing you did that covered the bonnet of the Prado..now I'm not 100% on that model vs my 2006 Grande Petrol, but surely they have the same electronic setup which still doesn't make it a good car for river crossings. Petrol vehicles in general vs diesel. Besides the snorkel, what else was done to the prado to make it possible to cross these rivers without damaging electrical components, or did you have issues relating to that crossing afterwards? Any type of servicing done afterwards? I am contemplating to get a snorkel as due to some floods here in Australia I was forced to cross what's usually a dry river bed but at least it was at tyre height after waiting for the waters to calm down. So some say it isn't worth getting a snorkel for a Petrol Prado so just wanted your thoughts and opinion on this? 🙏

That water crossing was a bit deeper than expected. We have put this 120 through some horrid places and he will be doing 5 Africa countries self drive soon. Including Botswana again. It has had many modifications yes. Regarding the river crossing prayer. Only thing we have had in the past was the battery being wet and kept showing a battery light… but no. Nothing else. Only issue was that the water entered the inside of the car. And we had to air it for a day to dry. We actually hd to go through that crossing twice to the dead tree island. We dis not know that the road was closed.

Think make sure of your wading depth, but it is not ideal I think. Consider ourselves lucky this time around.
We were in the Delta. Crocs in the river and predators around us. Shut eyes and go🥴 let me know how it goes!
