  • Today's topic of discussion is the concept of justice. It's a complex matter that can be interpreted in many ways, and in the case of this video, we'll be analysing the intepretation set forth by Lost Judgment.
    The story was incredibly strong and brought some serious issues into the light. Hopefully, we will have all learned something by the end of this story.
    I hope you enjoy this analysis.
    Cheers!

    The titanium balls of RGG to create a narrative making a negative comment on Japan's (and pretty much everywhere else's) legal system, as well as tapping into our ideas of justice is simply amazing. Vigilante justice is something we all have thought of at some point. With Lost Judgement being centered around bullying and suicide as well, it's rare and very bold for a AAA videogame to hit this close to home. This game deserves the praises.

    Kuwana has that appeal that Ryuji has but fully realized; a dark, what-if reflection of the hero.
    Theres so many little things but, what i like is that, not just Kuwana living, but the fact that he, and his justice, limp away to the shadows from wence he came, while Yagami and his justice stand tall, but weary, in the light.
    Its not just about characters- its concepts and ideas; it took the semi-isolated world Judgment created and flipped it on its head.
    Tl;dr this game is fuckin nuts.

      My favorite thing about it too, is that without Kuwana? Nothing would have ever happened.
      Yagami would've never helped anybody he helped. Koda would still be sexually harassed by a 22 year old student teacher who got away with murder. And if it followed the same track that sexual harassment cases lead up to, Koda might've had worse happen.
      If Kuwana never did what he did, maybe less people would have died, but more people would have suffered.

    Lost judgement is easily in my top 5 games, and my favorite RGG game. It's like they finally took the gloves off and decided to stop dancing around topics and dive head first into them. The game forces you to think whether you realize it or not, while it may not be perfect it's a great example of a gray area story that constantly has you switching sides even after it's finished.

  • @amnot9958
    @amnot9958 Před rokem +15

    I think that another big reason people tend to not fully realize the narrative between Kuwana and Yagami's duality is that we have had two games to DIRECTLY see the flaws in Yagami's beliefs first hand. With Kuwana, we are shown flaws, but I don't feel as frequently and as deeply as with Yagami. For this reason, we can see why Yagami's form of justice could be hypocritical, when Kuwana's can be more sympathetic. I think if we took some more time than already shown to explore how Kuwana's pursuit could affect people (in terms of people who may suffer or be put down to give himself a step towards his target and goal) or to even directly question his actions by, say, having someone be deeply affected by his actions in a way that he was trying to combat to begin with (I.e. the pain of a bully's younger sibling).
    Maye these are things that are shown briefly and I'm just not remembering, but if they're not shown at all/enough, then I think having them added would have made the point that Lost Judgement wanted to get across e delivered much easier in my opinion.

    • @amnot9958
      @amnot9958 Před rokem +5

      I should say, that I get a HUGE part of the plot is that Kuwana's actions DO result in a LOT of consequences which could be even worse. I just mean that they could explore it more as a direct look at his philosophy. A lot of these consequences already in the game relate to MULTIPLE things and are multifaceted in nature, which is great and shows a very real version of the events which I love, on the flipside; for some it could complicate the actual portrayal of how Kuwana may be more in the wrong that he can seem.

    Another eloquent and well-made video. I was really looking forward to this one since i’ve been thinking about Lost Judgment a lot lately.
    It was such a bold move to make the narrative the way it is in this game and it’s one that’s stuck with me since I first finished it. Very few other pieces of media (if any?) have covered this topic so powerfully. RGG Studio proving that they’re masters of thought-provoking game narrative.

    Kuwana….hot damn what a character! Easily the best RGG antagonist and possibly the best example of a sympathetic murderer. When asked the question “if you could kill for a good cause, who would you target?” bullies aren’t usually at the top of the list since it sounds so melodramatic, but RGG made the smart move by showing the vicious types of bullying (that video of Mitsuru still makes my skin crawl). They did not pull their punches with this topic, and they did it in a way that doesn’t feel exploitative. Kuwana legit looked more admirable than Yagami at times, which is something I usually don’t say about a serial killer. Good job RGG!

    Yagami constantly bringing up Sawa's death to Kusomoto and Kuwana is what led them to reconsider
    Sawa genuinely cared for Mitsuru and never stopped visiting, and she was the one who brought it to Kitakata's intention
    and Kuwana shares the same sentiments about bullying with Sawa (he was one of the people she confided to about Toshiro's suicide)
    and to think that all their selfish actions is what led to the death of an innocent woman because she was too involved with the party is what prompted to make Kusomoto to turn herself in
    Also one last thought about the "Sawa-sensei" meme is that alot of people overlook that Yagami knew who murdered her but it was all being brushed under the rug to pin down Kuwana so public security have leverage against Kusomoto... If the police arent going to take action, Yagami took it a personal responsibility to give meaning for her Death

    My problem with Kuwana, and serial killers in general, is that they never explain themselves. They never leave behind notes, or videoes or press releases explaining their actions and try to convince the public of their brand of justice. They think killing will be a deterrent but how's anyone to change if they don't know that they should? How many bullies out there are renouncing their ways, else Kuwana comes for them?
    Public prosecution of crimes is public. A jury is made up of random citizens, anyone can walk into a court case to watch, so long as they are quiet, and big stories get reported and broadcasted immediately. Justice openly shows how it deals with offenders, and the consequences of their actions. Serial killers don't, nobody learns anything, bodies just pile up behind the scenes and nothing gets fixed

    the `bullies gang` change because of YAGAMI, if Yagami wasnt there, are you sure that girl would not commit suicide?
    how many Yagami(s) could change bullies like that?
    it can never be changed, thats why if people take definitive stance for Yagami, i would call them hypocrite
    same as Kuwana, murder is murder, even if its not your BY Kuwana hands, but in the case the Reiko and Ehara, does the bully change?no..they still the same, makes people take stance in Kuwana side
    now the real problem are THE BYSTANDER, the one who in the middle who wont / cant act because its not their problem, this is clearly seen in LJ too where people dont care about bullying

    • @mythicalthings1796
      @mythicalthings1796 Před 8 měsíci

      Problem is Yagamis way wouldn't have actually changed anything.
      Not only was his plan to get people to step up wildly unbelievable, but the ONLY reason those bullies changed? Was violence. Yagami best the living shit out of them 3 times, the third time they were gonna permanently main him.
      That's psychopath shit. And you expect me to believe they'd suddenly have a change of heart just cause? They also only started caring once they knew he was taking on a case for someone they liked.
      Someone, who mind you, was a 22 year old sexually harassing a fucking 16 year old. Who bullied a kid to suicide previously. That man was their idol.
      Yagami, in reality, would not have made an actual difference. He'd have been thrown out instantly for putting hands on minors. And if Kuwana never did what he did? Koda would still be bullied, Koda would still be sexually harassed by an adult with impunity (also take a guess where most sexual harassment goes? Rape.) And Yagami would never bother with the school case cause he'd never be asked.
      Kuwana saved more people than he killed. And the people he did kill deserved it. Sawa dying was also contrived as shit. Yagami just decided to stand and watch that video with no regard for his surroundings? He didn't notice she was clearly punched in the mouth earlier? Kuwana the bad ass couldn't take on the thugs Yagami beats while basically half dead later?
      Not to mention, Sawa failed every step of the way in her attempts to stop bullying and enabled a bully to keep sexually harassing a student. Who was clearly depressed in her class. Who's bullies were loud and obnoxious about it. I can't find myself caring about the character who only existed to be fridged in the worst example of this trope I've seen in modern years.

    I have a lot of problems with lost judgement narratively wasting a lot of characters and becoming a lot more Yakuza in all the great ways and all the bad ways.
    I genuinely hate kuwana not because of him as a character. But because no one offers any genuine counters to him other then the unintended third parties getting involved. When there are a lot of extremely obvious flaws with kuwanas ideology.
    Not to mention yagami is also infinitely more stupid in this game then he ever was in the original judgement.
