The Wedge Lifeguards doing their job during a huge set

Found some old footage from July 2009 at The Wedge. A guy decided to jump into the water without fins at the beginning of a massive set. Lifeguards rush to help.

The Wedge is not calm.

The Wedge has a circular rip which pulls swimmer into the crash zone. Surfers can use rips to get beyond breaking waves but this place has weird reflecting waves from the jetty. Nobody can swim against the rip for long. You have to swim out, time the duck dive, then swim in with the waves further down, away from the jetting and big surf. This place is not a swimming pool.

@@markchandler7089 We have identical jetties and currents around Pondicherry/Auroville. I used to annoy the beach-goers by swimming around a jetty in every direction - just a couple of kilometers every time. The biggest danger for a swimmer are the surfers with their boards.
