I think the idea that godzilla would be fine with a nuke to the face is pretty silly. A nuke emits radiation sure but that has nothing to do with the thermal energy and pressure wave that would either kill or severely weaken any toho godzilla. To compare it to your pizza anology, sure you eat pizza but you cant eat 100 million degree pizza that's being hurled at you in massive quantities at thousands of miles per hour.
What I love about this scene is that it gives us a personal and in depth look at what happened during the 1954 bombing of Godzilla, like it’s so cool, especially since in the first Godzilla film we only little clips with a 1950’s style quality to it now we actually get to see what went on
Only issue i have is them picking Operation Castle Bravo, and then botching its portrayal, when its one of the most most well documented fumbles of the Nuclear Era. hell you can literally look up the videos of Castle Bravo. In fact, the imagery they went with was more akin to Operation Crossroads: Shot Baker, an underwater test.
If gradually absorbing radiation from the bomb is like eating a Popsicle, then having it exploded in front of your eyes must felt like a delicious pie being thrown to your face.

However, I don't know if the impact of the blast is concussive enough to knock him out. I'd imagine it's probably like getting a water balloon to the face on a hot day. It feels good. Also if you pay close enough attention it sounds like you can hear his atomic breath when the bomb goes off, maybe it was him absorbing the radiation or the producers just wanted to add the little sound easter egg. The close attention to detail of making Godzilla slimmer and less bulked before the explosion than how he is in 2014 is also a nice touch since the nuke to the face hasn't juiced him up yet

If he was still around for the movies with Kong maybe. Godzilla was given sympathy in his solo movies which is why the next one should be about him so he can shine.
Because in GvK, Apex Cybernetics was messing with Godzilla and most of the movie was from Kong's POV, other than the scenes with Millie Bobby Brown who is completely on Godzilla's side. It isn't until the climax that the tide changes with both Kong and Godzilla being on the same side.
For the Japanese (on Monsterverse), Godzilla is their Superman, a mysterious figure that coming out of nowhere to save humanity. For them, he's the icon and a hero and they know they can't beat him, they have to worship him. That's why in KOTM, Serizawa is so mad to see those Americans defeats him with Oxygen Destroyer and also see him as a threat while for his POV, he's his childhood hero who just want to save the humanity from big monsters. He's even sacrificing his life to save his hero.
The center of a nuclear explosion can reach 100,000,000 oC, and Godzilla survived that. Our sun's core is 15,000,000 oC, so that means Legendary Godzilla could travel through the sun and out without a worry.
Well no... , it only reaches that temp for a split second, the sun also outputs a lot more energy even if it's not as hot. That's like saying a human can easily go near the sun, cause we can survive a lightning strike, which in a split second can reach 28,000 oC which is 5x hotter than the surface of the sun
0:14 that sound Godzilla made in the distance reminds me a lot of the sounds the 1998 Godzilla or “Zilla” made when he swam through bays and was hiding underneath New York. I actually enjoyed that film, would be cool to see Zilla make a return as sub species of Godzilla all-be-it maybe more agile and faster. Kind of like the New Kong subspecies will get in the next movie.
My fav part of the entire episode, honestly I wish that they would've shown him standing there unphased by the bomb instead of running back into the sea, giving a real sense of dread to the US military, that would've been awesome

Even tho all they did was "feed" Godzilla, that scene was actually very powerful. I mean, we all know that a nuclear weapon is far from capable of hurting Godzilla, but the scene is so well made that you almost believe that they actually killed him.
I like the detail of the physics behind sound traveling at a certain speed as you see Godzilla roaring slightly before you can hear the roar, which makes sense due to how far away they are
I like how Godzilla's groan is like a warning/siren. Also, it's hilarious how Godzilla looks at the bomb and is like, "wtf is this thi--" and immediately gets blown up.
It's all fun and games till you realize it was his preworkout. Then he turns around and looks at the military, and heads towards them to absolutely demolish the beach with pushups.

Keiko thought they were killing something beautiful, in reality humanity kept feeding him. Meaning the only reason Godzilla was strong enough was because of nuke tests making Keiko the antagonist here. It's a interesting dynamic
I love how they found a way to bring the classic orgin story into the monsterverse Godzilla's backstory. Every other Godzilla: an undiscovered still living Dinosaur gets exposed and mutated by the H-bomb tests. This verison: he was already Godzilla, but the H-bomb "tests" made him bigger and gave him his atomic powers.
I will say, it’s interesting that they scaled down Castle Bravo in this show’s universe. In G2014, it’s stated that the bomb they used on him in 54’ was in kilotons, and in both this series and the film, it looks like a recreation of Little Boy, the 17 kiloton bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The real Castle Bravo was a test to determine if a lightweight design of a “hydrogen” atomic bomb was feasible for airborn use. It ended up not only being successful, but had an explosive equivalent of 15 MEGATONS of TNT. Almost 1000 times stronger than Little Boy. Essentially, you wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere near that chain of islands when that bomb went off, and given where Godzilla was standing, he would have been inside the fireball, and would have had the ground disappear underneath him. The fact that theoretically, he could have survived the real Castle Bravo is a feat comparable to momentarily standing inside the sun.
he really don`t care about humanity, all he cares about is earth and the other kaijus, everything else is none existent for him. even in the 2014 movie he killed many many humans while fighting in the city and in hawai, he really don`t give a fu.. about humanity at this point in time. we are just not existent for him.
I found this scene to be quite haunting. There's so much going on thematically. The hubris of man. The awe of nature. People versus systems. Most importantly, the depiction of a Japanese woman attempting to stop a nuclear detonation. Then weeping for all they could have learned from the creature that - they believe - they just destroyed. Echoes of Dr. Yamane from the original Gojira. It's powerful stuff. This show is incredible.

To him, Godzilla represented an invaluable opportunity to learn how living things could survive a nuclear detonation, or at least survive the fallout. But it's obviously a lose-lose situation. Not entirely accurate. Before detonation atomic bombs have only trace amounts of radiation. Just enough to trigger the fission chain reaction. It's AFTER they detonate that their full radioactive potential is unleashed. And prior to this, there's no "sensing" the potential of it because it literally doesn't exist yet until after the chain reaction has occurred.

People working around atom bombs still get exposed to higher than normal radiation levels and sometimes it does become harmful (especially during the 50's where protective gear from radiations weren't as well developed as today's)

Me and my dad (watching together) pointed out that the boom occurred way sooner than the shockwave so it was inaccurate, but several other things I didn’t notice the first time were Godzilla’s little “huh” before the bomb went off and that the bomb was actually Castle Bravo. Very great series, I’m grateful to see the revival after a few years of gap.
The sound design here is kind of the inverse of the seismic charge from Star Wars; the bass drop accompanies the initial explosion, but as the shockwave that would carry the actual sound of the explosion rushes in, all you hear is a blast of wind, and then silence.
In Godzilla 2014, Dr. Serizawa and Dr. Graham explained that Castle Bravo were a series of tests trying to kill Godzilla, *TESTS* . So my theory is this scene’s the first attempt, while the G14 opening credits showing Godzilla’s spines breach the water is the final test. It explains why Godzilla is much slimmer before bulking up ‘cause he kept absorbing the nukes.
They explained that the bomb TESTS (as they were explained back then) were not bomb tests at all but attempts to kill GodZ. They weren't test attempts to kill him. They were genuinely trying to kill him with each bomb. They weren't aware then that the nukes strengthened them, only attracted them. This scene wasn't making it exactly like the quick clips because they had to expand it for interest.
Wasn't the opening shot of 2014 supposed to be the bikini atoll test tho? It'd be quite weird if they detonated several of those and went unscathed..but monsterverse logic is monsterverse logic I guess

The only thing that bothers me in this scene is the outlookers are way to close to the blast and they arent affected at all. But I've always been dying to fully watch this scene since they teased it in the very intro of Godzilla 2014. I love to see every little progress of humans' contact to Godzilla.
You can see that they are about 10 miles away from where Godzilla is so I assume far enough. Plus in that time period they didn't know how bad a nuke would expose them to cancer radiation even at 10 miles. Remember most of the casualties in a nuke come from fallout radiation which we didn't see in this clip because well that happens after a couple minutes not instant.
@@user-tx6ly8wd9l The issue is the explosion is way way too small for it to be the real Castle Bravo nuke, which would cause 3rd degree burns about 30 miles away from the blast radius and blind people much further out. At 10 miles away, the trees would be knocked down, the skin would be ripped from their flesh and their bodies thrown like rag dolls if they were just exposed like that. And this is assuming it was a ground burst like it was here. If it was an air burst, they would be knocked out of their seats from 30 miles away.
We know from Dominion that Godzilla is very aware of human technology. With nukes being new then as well as him being aware of the nearby humans, he was probably wondering why such intense radiation is coming from a human device.

I was an extra in this scene. We almost broke the chairs because we had to pretend to be blown back by the atom bomb’s shockwave countless times.
Even tho all they did was "feed" Godzilla, that scene was actually very powerful. I mean, we all know that a nuclear weapon is far from capable of hurting Godzilla, but the scene is so well made that you almost believe that they actually killed him.
I like the detail of the physics behind sound traveling at a certain speed as you see Godzilla roaring slightly before you can hear the roar, which makes sense due to how far away they are

I love how they found a way to bring the classic orgin story into the monsterverse Godzilla's backstory.
Every other Godzilla: an undiscovered still living Dinosaur gets exposed and mutated by the H-bomb tests.
This verison: he was already Godzilla, but the H-bomb "tests" made him bigger and gave him his atomic powers.
I will say, it’s interesting that they scaled down Castle Bravo in this show’s universe.
In G2014, it’s stated that the bomb they used on him in 54’ was in kilotons, and in both this series and the film, it looks like a recreation of Little Boy, the 17 kiloton bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
The real Castle Bravo was a test to determine if a lightweight design of a “hydrogen” atomic bomb was feasible for airborn use. It ended up not only being successful, but had an explosive equivalent of 15 MEGATONS of TNT. Almost 1000 times stronger than Little Boy.
Essentially, you wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere near that chain of islands when that bomb went off, and given where Godzilla was standing, he would have been inside the fireball, and would have had the ground disappear underneath him. The fact that theoretically, he could have survived the real Castle Bravo is a feat comparable to momentarily standing inside the sun.

I found this scene to be quite haunting. There's so much going on thematically. The hubris of man. The awe of nature. People versus systems. Most importantly, the depiction of a Japanese woman attempting to stop a nuclear detonation. Then weeping for all they could have learned from the creature that - they believe - they just destroyed. Echoes of Dr. Yamane from the original Gojira. It's powerful stuff. This show is incredible.

For this scene, the military was pretty chill about it. None of them have weapons on them. It's like they're knew the nuke is a treat for everyone there. There is also a hidden message. Godzilla represent Japan. After the nuke, there was no retaliation and the Japanese woman is now subdued.

Not entirely accurate. Before detonation atomic bombs have only trace amounts of radiation. Just enough to trigger the fission chain reaction. It's AFTER they detonate that their full radioactive potential is unleashed. And prior to this, there's no "sensing" the potential of it because it literally doesn't exist yet until after the chain reaction has occurred.
Atomic bomb don't have radiation, atomic explosion did, human can walk freely near the bomb or even ride the bomb and complete fine

People working around atom bombs still get exposed to higher than normal radiation levels and sometimes it does become harmful (especially during the 50's where protective gear from radiations weren't as well developed as today's)

Me and my dad (watching together) pointed out that the boom occurred way sooner than the shockwave so it was inaccurate, but several other things I didn’t notice the first time were Godzilla’s little “huh” before the bomb went off and that the bomb was actually Castle Bravo. Very great series, I’m grateful to see the revival after a few years of gap.
I think if you're close enough the sounds might reach first, but I might be thinking of something else.
The sound design here is kind of the inverse of the seismic charge from Star Wars; the bass drop accompanies the initial explosion, but as the shockwave that would carry the actual sound of the explosion rushes in, all you hear is a blast of wind, and then silence.

In Godzilla 2014, Dr. Serizawa and Dr. Graham explained that Castle Bravo were a series of tests trying to kill Godzilla, *TESTS* . So my theory is this scene’s the first attempt, while the G14 opening credits showing Godzilla’s spines breach the water is the final test. It explains why Godzilla is much slimmer before bulking up ‘cause he kept absorbing the nukes.

They explained that the bomb TESTS (as they were explained back then) were not bomb tests at all but attempts to kill GodZ. They weren't test attempts to kill him. They were genuinely trying to kill him with each bomb. They weren't aware then that the nukes strengthened them, only attracted them. This scene wasn't making it exactly like the quick clips because they had to expand it for interest.
Wasn't the opening shot of 2014 supposed to be the bikini atoll test tho? It'd be quite weird if they detonated several of those and went unscathed..but monsterverse logic is monsterverse logic I guess

The only thing that bothers me in this scene is the outlookers are way to close to the blast and they arent affected at all. But I've always been dying to fully watch this scene since they teased it in the very intro of Godzilla 2014. I love to see every little progress of humans' contact to Godzilla.
You can see that they are about 10 miles away from where Godzilla is so I assume far enough. Plus in that time period they didn't know how bad a nuke would expose them to cancer radiation even at 10 miles. Remember most of the casualties in a nuke come from fallout radiation which we didn't see in this clip because well that happens after a couple minutes not instant.
@@user-tx6ly8wd9l The issue is the explosion is way way too small for it to be the real Castle Bravo nuke, which would cause 3rd degree burns about 30 miles away from the blast radius and blind people much further out. At 10 miles away, the trees would be knocked down, the skin would be ripped from their flesh and their bodies thrown like rag dolls if they were just exposed like that. And this is assuming it was a ground burst like it was here. If it was an air burst, they would be knocked out of their seats from 30 miles away.
