    About me:
    My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.
    My channel is these things:
    1. A place to share my music - both songs and instrumental pieces. Much of the music I write features in...
    2. Tutorial videos about music composition and production
    3. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.
    I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
    All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase (currently Cubase 12).
    I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

    Holy Toledo! You are a natural teacher. This was a terrific introduction to Groove Agent 5. Your pace is excellent and your intuition of just how deep to dive to get going is spot on! I'm so glad you're doing these Cubase and Cubase-related videos. Thank you so much! Keep up the excellent work! 🙂

    Thank you so much. I have had GA for a long time, with the intention of using it in my Cubase compositions. However, I just could not get to grips with it at all, especially GA5 as it seemed SO complex. I knew it was a powerful tool, but just couldn't find a way into it to get started. You explain the concepts behind it SO clearly and at just the right pace. I now have a way into the program, and will be following your other tutorials.
    You are a natural and gifted teacher.
    Thanks again!

    I was just studying your 24-lesson guide and this new 1st lesson popped up. I think it's great to restate the lesson with a slightly different approach. I found it very useful. Thanks Anthony!

    Thank you, I can appreciate the time consuming work that you have put into fully understanding the workings of Groove Agent and that others can now benefit from. Your excellent presentation has certainly helped me.

    So refreshing to see a clear perfectly explained video about how the software works rather than promoting it. Thank you!

    After having a rough start with Groove Agent, I detected the one real gem in it: Beat Agent. Once you know how to use it, it's the BY FAR best groove tool out there from my view, far ahead of Machine, Battery and all the other available sample based drum solutions out there. It has an excellent worflow (much better than that of Machine) and all finctionality you need.
    I wished Steinberg would push Groove Agent 5 much more, with more expansions and midi content. It's almost like they are not aware of how good Beat Agent is.
    The acoustic Agent needs a heavy update, at minimum allowing kit piece exchange, to get on par with EZ-Drummer and others.

    Thanks for this tutorial Anthony. I’ve struggled with Groove Agent over the years and never got to grips with it. I always end up resorting to a mish mash of the supplied patterns and fills and as result am never really satisfied with my drum track.
    You’ve inspired me to work through your in depth Groove Agent videos and hopefully further increase my understanding and improve my music overall.
    Thanks again.

    I messed around with Groove Agent this moring (Cubase LE 11 version) and I figuref it out in about 5 or 10 minutes. I forgot that I had Cubase LE 11 from 4 years ago lol. First tine trying it out. I've read a lot online about how EZ Drummer is better than Groove Agent but as someone who has both I kinda like Groove Agent more. EZ Drummer 3 is expensive and so are the kits which have to be bought separately. It only comes with 7 kits that all sound like some variation if a standard drum kit. Groove Agent 5 comes with over 130 kits for pretty much every genre you could think of. In my older version of Groove Agent I found 6 kits I really like. In my full version of EZ Drummer 3 I have one kit that I bought for metal production that sounds decent when tweaked. I wish I would have found out about Groove Agent before today. I'm too broke to afford it.

    It’s hands down the best introduction to Groove Agent 5 on CZcams! I could not find better! You categorised and systemised info! Would be nice to see layering options of acoustic kits with samples)
    Can’t wait to see next info about Groove Agent as soon as possible))

      Much appreciated, thanks for the feedback. Can you clarify what you mean with your layering options query? Individual samples in Acoustic Kits can't be replaced, if that's what you mean. Great tutorial. I always learn something from your videos. Also @ 9:00 when I want to import (or export a pattern from GA into cubase), I just drag the selected groove pattern (left side view) onto my desired midi track (in this instance, instead of the middle view and going through AGENT tab I would just drag the left view groove 7 pad- D0 into cubase).

    It seems that you are the only one who try to do something for this piece of software, thanks a lot! I have had GA for years but frankly I have never used it - Superior Drummer is my go to, but now I want to include it in my template. The first problem I have, is that when I right click on the Groove Agent I don't get that browser named Load Kit up! I get the load panel and with the icons for different collections. And some of these collections I don't own! It's very confusing. Is there something I can do to start out a little bit more basic?

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  Před 5 měsíci

      Try doing all your file management from the browser on the right hand side of the plugin (the one that opens and closes as a "docked" pane by clicking the little folder icon). If you have a mismatch between what you can see and what you can use, you might have downloaded something that you don't own. Unbelievably (and this makes my blood boil) the Steinberg Download Manager will let you download pretty much anything, regardless of whether or not you have a licence for it. Once it's on your system it's incredibly difficult to remove. There are times when a complete uninstall/folder delete session & reinstall is the only answer - at least that's been my experience. I even remember one time I bought an expansion that I'd accidentally downloaded... just to make all the red icons go away (I did actually want it, I hasten to add!)

    Q: Why would we upgrade to Groove Agent 5, if we are on Nuendo 13 with Groove Agent SE? I don't really notice any additional features, but there must be something.

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  Před 4 měsíci +1

      SE is a pretty good basic tool, and if you don't look at the extra features on offer in v5 then you'll probably not miss them. The full version does have quite a few tools that, once you start using them, would be very painful to lose (for me at least), and there is a full version comparison list on the Steinberg site, but I'm not going to try and convince you that you need any of them!

  • @ruslankrivoshein2893

    What if I don't have "Overview" and "Pattern" buttons on the middle panel? I've opened it exactly like you, but there is only "Agent" button. I use trial "Cubase Elements 13" and "Groove Agent SE 5"

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Groove Agent SE is a cut-down version of the full app, which is why those features are missing.

    I’m using cubase 12. Please, How do i get the Groove agent 5 plugin?

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  Před 5 měsíci

      It's either a separate purchase, or you can get it as part of the Steinberg 'Absolute' bundle (which is what I did).

    • @adamregan4921
      @adamregan4921 Před 5 měsíci

      Groove Agent SE is included with Cubase. Did you download it? Also try right click add instrument and select groove agent.

    Thank you Anthony for a simply explained, but thorough overview of Groove Agent. I have been using Cubase/Groove Agent since 2013 and generally go to other plugins for drum/percussion needs with composition that are more intuitive. Any thoughts on why some of the content e.g. styles or instruments for Groove Agent has the icon of a red circle with a white lines across? The libraries are correctly registered with location in Steinberg's Library Manager.

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  Před 7 měsíci

      It's usually because your installation libraries have got themselves out of sync. I've had that issue before, and never managed to get rid of it without doing a full re-download using Download Assistant, letting it reinstall everything, then verifying that all my library locations were correct. It's a total pain to fix, but once you're straight it's easy to keep it clean and problem free.

    • @shannonofpa7499
      @shannonofpa7499 Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you Anthony for your helpful reply. Interestingly, I found that if I turn off the "User filter" the duplicate (red circle, white line) elements are no longer visible. I think some of this was created also by installing Cubase products years ago before the launch of their Download Assistant. Again, your CZcams presence is appreciated!

    I find the problem with Cubases designs in general is that they're unnecessarily complicated and are not intuitive. They should probably figure that out. All the current users are getting older, and I don't hear about anyone young getting into Cubase. At all.
