From LA to Chennai - Sandeep Narayan's unique musical journey

- Sandeep Narayan grew up in the US and was trained in Carnatic Classical music by his mother who is an exponent of the classical form. To seek further insight into Carnatic music, Sandeep moved to Chennai and perfected the form. The young, American accented Carnatic classical musician had to work through a world of purists and traditionalists but won acclaim widely. Sandeep was in Dubai recently for a concert in Bur Dubai. My conversation with him journeyed over his upbringing in the US, learning his mother tongue Tamil, to his love for western music and passion to blend the two genres, his wedding, collaborating with Hindustani classical musicians, touring the world and performing at Isha Foundation concerts.

His "oru murari"- Ek Nazr with legend Kaushiki Chakravorty sang in ISA foundation is superb. I salute these young musicians.
A terrific chap born in US and have enriched deep commitment to learn and now excel in Carnatic music and I have great admiration for him

What a musical excellence in Vid Sandeep Narayan. What a commitment to classical music. In these materialistic days, leaving US for India in pursuit of classical music is a tremendous samskara to move out of bhoga bhumi to enter yoga bhumi !
I have lived in US since 1974. At every visit to India since then, I see Indians are more materialistic than the Americans. We are very hard working people and raised hard working people. Sandeep comes across as a very typical US raised young man.
I like n enjoy his music and voice. Really mesmerized. God bestow him a long life .

Dang…he talks so highly of his mom. But, to the families that went to his mom’s school, his mom is one special character!! A woman with many mood swings that children, moms and dads would all have to bear with it, to learn music from her.
A teacher can be strict, but not go psychotic. She broke my usually cheerful child, and sent her into depression and broke her confidence. Even parents were not spared. My family is still struggling from her actions.
She favours families based on external appearances, richness, fame, caste, skin-color and so many other things. Any sensible person will be able to sense it within a few days of meeting her. Quite a cheap nature for a teacher.
Her weirdness is on a totally different level…One day, she announced that she was going to have class on pongal. We went to the class and she suddenly started yelling at me, the parent, who dropped everything and took my child to class on a festive day. I was about to wish her a happy pongal and all I got was an earful. Don’t even remember why she yelled at the parent . Terrifying Psycho.
We dropped her class immediately after that . She immediately went around calling all the local teachers in the neighborhood asking them not to take my child. So much grace for a Carnatic music teacher!!!
There are so many families who ran away from her class because of her psychotic nature. Shameful for a Carnatic music teacher.
Birds of the same feather gather together…as we can see from Sandeep’s extended family relationships…
Fake people attract other fakes.
There interest is only in Tamil Brahmin Students. Rest for collecting Money.
