Both Isla Mujheres and Isla Holbox are over crowded noisy places. I just came back from Isla Holbox hoping to go somewhere quiet in Mexico. The place is a big party zone with concerts at the main plaza going on until 6 am and people drinking and getting drunk. So many online videos are deceiving and far from what these places really are like!

Some good choices on this list. We have lived in La Paz for 6 months, and Baja California Sur for 9 months total. Mexico is a vast diverse country with numerous hidden gems. Los Barriles was also enjoyable for us. Looking forward to our next extended visit to this awesome country!

Tamaulipas is not on this list but you guys should have included it. It's such an underrated gem. Nice people, beautiful buildings, it's such a peaceful city. If you guys ever get the chance to go I definitely recommend it.

Because more people care about the beach than history. I am MExican and I love history but I will always pick going to Playa del Carmen over a colonial town. You have to understand Europeans have plenty of colonial towns themselves, and so do South Americans.

Sayulita is nice but if I have to pick a beach in Riviera Nayarit it would be Punta de Mita, small town maybe 30mins south of Sayulita.

If you are a young camper traveling for cheap you will fit in at Isla Holbox. True: No cars. But the gas run golfcarts are extremely plentiful and extremely LOUD. Paved streets are non-existant so bring wadders during rainy season. This one is big. The whale sharks are being terribly exploited. Ignore the videos that make the sharks look like your friend. The truth is they used to migrate less than a mile off the beach. Now they avoid many boats of tourists by traveling 10 to 20 miles off the coast. Pass on that tour just like you would a dancing bear show. They pointed out that Holbox has great features. It is true. These are just my peeves.

In a way it's not good that you share and tell people these places to visit. My main concern and worry is that if everyone knows. Then everyone goes. To many people and tourists go. It's gonna be over populated and dirty. Dirty as in litter on the floor, etc. That's my biggest worry. But other than that have fun but be mindful and respectful when u go to nice places in Mexico. My mom is from Mexico and such a beautiful place to visit. Certain places not all.
