I'm 70+ and have seen my share of job sites where the customer, "the money" has changed their mind. I know it's hard, once you get a mind set on a job, to change things up. As long as the money is right then the customer is right, always. Be satisfied that your doing your best and don't let it upset you or your crew. Don't let the customer here any bad mouthing that might go on by the crew and you'll be a better man and contractor for it. Cheers, Billy in Canada PS your work looks great and your working safe too!!

45 years ago, as a child, I would go to my dad's sites. He was a home builder/contractor. He would design and build the houses, and he would always work with a specific set of brick/block layers. I remember watching them. As time went on, here in the US, and money saving became king, crap homes were built using crap supplies. No one seems to build actual brick homes any more. Even the town-homes with the brick fascias, aren't really, most of the time, they're all fake. It's really nice to see a crew doing this. Excellent work and great advice given as you go. Well done!

It's great watching all the fluid motions and minimal steps you experts have gotten this process down to. I did a couple of little side jobs involving cinder blocks and stucco. The first stucco job was a disaster, with scratch coat repeatedly falling to the ground and me hand scooping it back up and mashing it onto the wall. Then I watched a professional stucco/plaster guy's channel, and on the second job was using a hawk and trowel like a seasoned pro. I have some brick projects coming up and will return to this channel!

Yep, you're not wrong about getting your client to sign a contract that states
"We will build what's drawn on this plan"
and if, say f'rinstance, they want a wider door; you change that part of the plan, and ensure that they sign and date the amended plan, and mark what how much extra that it will cost to make that change.
I always got weekly progress payments and stipulated that I was payed
immediately upon completion of the job.

I still remember the names of most of the tools of your trade that you are using like the wall ties, line pin you set the brick on (they use to call them 'twigens") and line blocks. The tape measure was the best as they would use the folding version for layouit. I enjoyed the video.

One guy got hurt, they call an ambulance as the and all 20 illegals come down off the scaffolding and hide in a dark room which had no electricity yet. • @janderson8401
      @janderson8401 Před 2 lety

@@VictorNewman201 reason one is that it is skilled labor intensive so any project using brick will have a high labor cost.
Two is that bricks are relatively heavy. That means wider foundations and wider footings, i.e. more costs. It also means you need to own or rent more substantial scaffolding to install it.
Three is that for the last 40 or 50 years children in the developed world have been told the must go to college and get a degree.
I could probably go on for a while but those are the main reasons, high cost combined with parents not wanting the kids to go into anything requiring hard labor and or an element of danger.

He did not understand that the consent needed to go through council again, that conc tiles would require total redesign of the support walls and upgrade of the timber in support walls, the roof trusses had been ordered for a light roof and would require a total redesign for a heavy roof, numerous other costs for the change. I don’t see any reason to walk off. As my dad always said “the customer is never wrong, but that doesn’t mean they’re always right.” Meaning they’re paying for what they want, even if it is against your pro advice.

We ripped a roof on a raised ranch in upstate NY and tar papered ice and water shielded the new roof. The gray GAF arch shingles got delivered on the roof and we started laying the front side of the roof. The wife comes home around noon and we got half of the front done and she can see the shingles up at the peak of the roof and told me they where supposed to be green not gray and I kinda laughed it off. The husband came home and I got a call from my boss telling me there was a mistake and we needed to rip the shingles we just nailed to the roof off and wait for a new delivery. Turns out the wife wanted green and the husband only wrote "GR" on the order so my boss ordered gray. Those shingles got very gingerly taken off that roof and are now on my woodshed. I could give 2 sh!ts what my roof color is but these customers are not me. On to the next job.

    Hello my niabingee,,
Hope u crack a laugh on that one,, I’ve seen a few of your videos & i must say your a talented mason with a strong work ethic!!!! I can tell exactly who u are by the way u work... In the times we’re in right now I strongly believe u are doing a hell of a lot more with your videos then u think!! Besides expanding your business, showing your skills & talent in masonry, & making a few $ on the side,, you are putting up a flag for black men!!!! 90% of what is watched is either rap, drug smoking, crime on news, etc....... rarely do people see just a hard working, skilled, black man doing his every day thing,, & I’m sure for your family... I believe if there was more people like yourself, it would solve tons of problems in the world today.. Besides running in the streets chanting racism, & not knowing what to do with themselves,, these kids would see that with a little effort, hard work, & time that they can do anything they want to & succeed, just like yourself,, regardless of there skin color!!! I hope u take what I wrote in a good way, as I’m coming from a good place, calling a spade a spade, & calling it as I see it..... Health, wealth, happiness, & God Bless----

I had in-laws that built custom homes. They quickly decided to buy a lot, build the home their way, and then sell it. What I thought was funny was they did the same thing the former customers did after approving their own plans. They changed their minds about some things after they started construction.
I enjoyed watching your work. In California they have to use rebar for brick construction. Most of the newer “brick” buildings only have fake brick “tiles”. Earthquakes.

We all laughed, as he realised I was taking the Mick. Always good to have a laugh when you do such hard work.
