- We do a first-drive review on the new 2024 Porsche Macan EV to showcase the engineering and how it translates into a driving experience. This next-generation approach will be met with skepticism; however, we get a chance to explain and see if this technology makes smaller vehicles and SUVs better than the internal combustion versions. Other EVs to consider are the Hyundai Ioniq N, Lucid Air, BMW iX, and Tesla Model Y.

Good luck for that
Lol 😆

Glad Mark is invited to a Porsche event too 😂
Porsche Invitational Event?
Glad Mark gets to see the world instead of sitting depressed in Illinois covered in TuxMats!
Won’t be Jack fluffing Porsche the whole time.
Probably hid in the trunk
I thought Mark hated press junkets.
Really liked when he said “it’s Porsche time”
and he porsched all over the place and then porsched out
Like a power ranger 😄
Its porschin time!

I was told to dream bigger, so I’m going to sell my house, current car, my Jose Canseco autographed jersey to get this dreamy EV. It’ll pair well with my new 2 star RV park lifestyle😎
Dont let go of the Jose jersey.
Don't let your dreams be dreams!
The depreciation will be faster than this Porsche!
Jose and his wife (at the time) came in and sat across from me at a restaurant when I was a kid in the late 80s…as I recall he arrived in…white 911 turbo.
Those little deadpan throw-away lines are my favorites. Mark: “…so if I go and get my nails done, I don’t have to jam them…” Wait, what? 😂
Love how the Porsche dude talks about gaps and build quality! Feels like a jab right at tesla lol. Everyone's so focused on tech and batteries these days that they never focus on what makes a car feel good in your hand.
Can we talk about how quiet that interior is when they're talking? That's the one thing I absolutely love is the quietness of an EV
The interior of the 2024 Macan looks cool though.
Yep, some of them are quiet.
The Cadillac Lyriq is amazing.
If I want silence I can put some noise canceling headphones on 😂 performance cars should be loud.
@ikaros4203 yes, let's strip all the sound deadening out of this family hauler 😂 cmon man get real.
Long way from those northern Illinois farm roads!😊
The barn cats will never hear them coming.
I was in south France French riveria last week. Beautiful roads and geography
I prefer the old Macan's look, this generation of Macan just looks unsettling for some reason. Nicely updated interior though.
Another electric Blob on wheels.
A melting plastic battery case on wheels.
An electric slime.
@@GIGABACHI I hate to agree.
The model S plaid is so dam good for the price it makes these hard to consider.

I bought a very nicely equipped brand new 2023 Macan S last year with the 2.9L V6 twin turbo from the Audi RS5 for $73,000 plus tax. They can keep these EVs at over $100-120k.
Price is a massive issue right now., I agree.
@@savagegeeseespecially when you consider the depreciations EV’s are seeing… even porsche
@@savagegeese Even if it wasn't, gas Macan is still better
I completely agree some EVs are overpriced, the new Macan included. But a base Macan 4 EV with the tax credit is about the same price as a comparable ICE Macan when talking MSRP. A new Macan S is 74K base. Keep in mind the Macan EV comes standard with the panoramic roof, heated seats, heated steering wheels, air/adaptive suspension, better digital screens inside, etc.
Comparably equipped they cost about the same. Especially if you lease and get the tax credit. Mind you something like a base Macan 4 EV has better real world acceleration than a Macan S ICE. Also the 100-120K versions are for the Turbo model where the Macan ICE has no equivalent anymore.
I wanted the S but it doesn’t drive as nice at the T. The T drives better than the GTS as well. The T is just not fast enough for me. Will have to remove the limiter if possible.

Porsche has it right here. I dont need 1000km on one charge.
If a car can ride 300km and charge that distance back up in 5 minutes that would be the point at which I would buy an EV.
I will wait until they get there.
well it can burn 95% of car in 5 min with current technology,...
Thats what I thought until saturday when I ran to empty in my macan at midnight right before needing to eat at a restaurant, filled my tank in one minute and we got to the restaurant food in time where electric never would have.
@sunnohh well 1 minute in my example would have given you 60kms. Which would have been enough to get dinner. Unfortunately electric cars are not there yet
Driven across Europe a couple of times now in my VW ID3. Even today its usually stop, pee, have a sip of water go. Not an issue at all, I never have to wait for my car.
@@sunnohh Assuming you don't live in an apartment, if you charged to 80% the night before you wouldn't have needed to stop at a charger or in your case gas. The only time you really need to hit DC fast charging is when you're doing road trips unless you're a traveling salesperson or towing or can't charge at home. People have learned to top off their phones overnight, I'm not sure why it's so hard to plug in the car and let the car draw power at night when it's cheaper than daytime peak.
I cant wait to see these at my local Whole Foods!
Or also in the Porsche Factory Shop.😅
Where the fuck else would you see one? Its a city car
And I thought vegans in electric Porschhh “cars” don’t eat (and thus further destroying the Earth with emissions) make nutrients with photosynthesis like plants
@@siimkask14auto cross or off road trails of course! /s
OK. I see Aventadors at Wjole Foods. What's your point?
Remember Gillette Mach 3 Turbo razor?
I use 1 blade razor. I can take out the blade and put it on a toothbrush and act like i’m in a prison break.
Not a weird comparison considering that the powertrain has more in common with an electric razor rather than an ICE powered car.
Still have mine. Best razor ever.
I love my razor phone.
EVs just don’t make sense for those of us that live in urban neighborhoods with no garages or private parking . I don’t fancy being entirely reliant on public charging stations.
Eeexactly, and public fast charging is stupidly expensive. And until recently you needed idiotic subscriptions, charging cards, which is pure artificial BS.
Charging in mall car parks etc. is fine for now but at some point they’ll stop offering it for free or they won’t expand it when there are more EVs around (why should they pay for your charging?)
Plus, insurance is becoming a huge issue, as companies refuse to repair them (for less than 40k for a scratch). Of course, that’s not an inherent EV issue, but it’s the perfect and only opportunity for the automakers to change the status quo in repairability, claiming BS like safety, cybersecurity, quality of work etc.
@@grigorioschristodoulou5229 None of that is the actual issue with non-Tesla charging. The issue with non-Tesla charging in the US until widespread NACS adoption is that Electrify America and a lot of the other third party charging services suck.
Also doesn't make sense in rural areas where you have to drive 300 miles on Tuesday.
Yep, that’s a major problem.
My city has been adding chargers to a few utility poles as a pilot program. I think that’s a reasonable idea depending on the density of the city.
I want one but I can't afford one, and sadly I've already sold all my kids to the coal mines to cover my drinking habits
ROTFL
I remember seeing a few of these in camouflage running around LA years ago, I'm impressed how close they look to the production car.
Its exciting that the range is good enough to drive to Galveston AND BACK on a single charge.
Well done.
The only Porsche I've ever driven was a Panamera. I didn't drive it hard, but the main take away I got from that car was just how natural, progressive, and precise all the inputs were. I was very impressed, and appreciate their engineering philosophy. Too bad I'll never be able to afford one. 😂
Thank Biden economics
@@Jwdude123 It has nothing to do with who's in the White House. We're not talking about Toyota Camrys here. 🙄
Not sure what world you are living in if you don't think 600bhp sounds like a lot of power!
Lucid air with like 1300 hp
Yep, but cars are heavy as tanks today.
Power to weight my guy. 600hp in a 5600lb car isn’t a lot at all, but I guess you’re right it does sound like a lot…. Except it’s silent 😂
Over 400 for EV is an overkill and nonsense given the speed limits in US.
Tesla and lucid has over 1000hp. What world are you living in ?!
I didn’t know they had Arby’s in France but they must considering mark made the trip out there
Would love an eventual video on how tech in this car finds itself in a vw golf in 15-20 years. Still remember seeing the new S-class around the year ~2000 at an auto show and blown away that it had a navigation and phone system in the car. Times change
The e-Golf was a great car. I still have a 2015. It's just like a Golf only it's electric.

The best review of the Macan EV out there. killer job y'all, thanks for sharing the story.
Starts at $80K? Hell no. The old Macan started around $60K; mine cost $69K with a few options.

@@future62 Correct. My Macan will go 450 miles between stops and re-fills in 5 minutes. I take road trips in my car; an EV is painful for roadtrips.
How does this channel not have one million subscribers yet?!? Your product is top notch! Keep it up. Been watching since Mark's S2000
Glad you'll have this already in your memory prior to reviewing the Ioniq 5 N, unless it's already done and we are just waiting for the embargo.
I wish Porsche had a plug in hybrid 1st before going all electric like Merc and BMW
Watched this 2x 👌 you guys do fantastic work!
Hola from Wisconsin!
I drove my sister’s Macan. It’s a well made car, drove well with a beautiful interior. But it’s just too small inside. I can’t fit in rear seat and front legroom was just ok. For over $100k I’d expect the car to be a bit larger inside. Its quality of workmanship is first rate. The paint job was very good. Porsche has Improved its product immensely.
Appreciate Mark’s commitment to saying “frunk” - spoken like a true EV fanboy 👏😂
You guys are great. Among all others out there, you are probably in the top 5 reviewers that go into details of stuff. Keep up the good work!!
Best regards from Macedonia!
Mark and Jack gave a lot of praise on basically all previous occasions to the ICE Macan (B.1, B.2, B.3). It would be wonderful to hear more of their thoughts on how the ICE version compares to the EV version dynamically, practically, long-term perspective-wise, etc. I would love to hear a longer, deeper discussion on this.
Front end reminds of Ioniq 6
I’m so sorry I missed this earlier! Been driving my ‘02 Boxster around the Tetons! Glad to be here now!
And yet, doing Cayman EV only is a huge mistake. Even if it gets a better suspension.
Looks "chubby" but that said, anything new from porsche is always welcome
It's the decision to go with a fastback (coupe) rear end. not enough rear overhang to pull it off imo.
So glad I took delivery of a 2024 S
Amen. Same here .. was lucky to get an early allocation for a 24 GTS. Hope you enjoy the smiles per gallon !!
A fantastic car! In my opinion it fully lives up to the previous generation and then some! I personally drove it in Portugal during a internal training with Porsche.
I don't need an SUV, but when I test drove the Cayman and then jumped into the Macan, I was really surprised at how it didn't even feel like an SUV at all. No, it's not going to replace a sports car or even a sports sedan, but for the practicality, space, the Macan is really impressive for a fits all needs. If you have a family and still want to drive lively, this is probably the only SUV I would consider. Porsche is truly on its on level. The build quality, driving experience and reliability is tough to match dollar for dollar.
Fully loaded at $125K, one year later after 10K miles you will be able to pick one up for under $80K 😀 I guess, probably much lower. Used EV's hold their price like used iPhones
Please come here a year from now and report the used price.
I don't get how people say all EVs drive the same when, for example, all the ICE Macan's competitors drive differently despite almost all having ZF8 + AWD + 6 cylinder engines with fake engine noises.
Can you turn off the carefully curated fake acceleration noise? It's Porsche - if I recall they upcharge for adding different sounds. Perhaps I can get the $700 "silent sound acceleration" option?
You can turn it off in the head unit
I love that sound. Even if it's fake.
The one day I wake up at 4am and this is here to greet me 🙏
I saw where I live the pre production cars near German border on French side. Perfect size and ratio width/height. Sleek design and Weldon’s for that good aerodynamics. I choose the Macan 2 or red that will come later on the market and with a few more miles autonomy. Top review as usual guys, well done.
Used car market is going to be good to us : ) these will drop like a rock.
Putting the turbo badge on an EV car is just hilarious. It seems Porsche could turbocharged an electric motor😂
Get the f*** over the naming! Do you really think a Chevy trailblazer is out there blazing trails or the Toyota highlander has something to do with the highlands? How can someone be so stupid to still not grasp this is just another word for very fast. Comon dude
Very bizarre
Ya? And? The output of your horseless carriage's engine is still measured in horsepower isn't it? Words mean what we make them mean. And anyone who's ever played an N64 knows "turbo" can just as easily mean "faster". 🙄
Historical reasons.
Its about the segment/claas placement, not tech.
I dont see nothing unusual about it anymore, bc im from 2024.
@@DrZedDrZedDrZedlol. So a man can be a woman? 🤣🤡
Awesome to see Porsche being Porsche and engineering the shit out of an EV. The one thing I hate about Tesla, decent EV, but not fun to drive. The Lucid is the only other that is close to fun driving. Great review guys!!! Hoping more EVs go this route for EVs.
The Taycan is much more fun to drive than is the Lucid
Amazing video, quality is impeccable as always. Where in the south of France was this?
Outside of Antibes
Beautiful cinematography and storytelling as always. Are you guys using an ND filter with your drones? The footage looks a bit jumpy.

Great video. Thanks. I’ve got an allocation for a Macan 4. In your opinion rear wiper - yes or no? HUD - yes or no?
Test drove some Porsches today at the local dealer. Was told 2/3rds of orders for these Macan EVs were for soccer moms and 1/3 was for dads with 911s or GT4s and wanted a fast local road 10:07 kid shuttle.
Is the target audience different for the ice Macan?
Suuure.
Hey guys it's not BurmeIster, it's Burmester! Cheers from Italy!
How do you not have 2M subscribers? You guys are incredible!
Honestly, if it were called the Macan EV, and that was the thumbnail title, I would not have even clicked the video. I guess that's why Porsche calls it the "Turbo" instead.
Hilariously improper use of the word.
The thumbnail says “MACAN ev”
The title says Macan Turbo.
@@the_Scarlet_one The title says Turbo.
I gotta say I like this a lot! From powertrain, to aesthetics, to interior. My only complaint honestly is the lack of regen/one pedal driving 😞
Always the first channel I click and on for a new car review
This makes me excited for the EV Boxster.
I look forward to getting behind these going 5 MPH under the speed limit on the way to the county club.
Great video!
Just like Porsche, looks like Lucid is slowly becoming a benchmark for EVs. #Jack and #Mark constantly referenced Lucid in their commentary.
I am not sure what the problem is getting both good regen and also natural feeling brakes. Separate the functions. Have a stalk for the regen which increases with every tap. The default and the increments could be programmable and maybe tapping the stalk differently could bring on coasting if required.
"sportiness is not loud or vibrations". True, but i'd balk at anything matching the thrill of firing up my AMG on the weekends.
Still not there yet. Porsche nmc811 batteries are pretty amazing but we aren't even at solid state yet. It makes no sense to spend 6 figures on an EV that will be mase obsolete in the next couple years. Meanwhile infrastructure outside of US major centers still isn't there. Are there really a critical mass of buyers for these?
A couple corrections. These batteries are lasting 10-20 years. Also, all of the US was electrified 100 years ago, so the infrastructure is there.
There's power everywhere but not plentiful fast chargers.
These are for those folks that just lease the "next one" over and over again.
@@matthewnelson5680maybe? Depends how much range you can live with at the 10yr mark. 75% on degradation plus a cold day (not everywhere is California) pose major hurdles for buyers. Say what you want but sales are falling off a cliff for a reason. Canada for example is doing absolutely nothing in the charging infrastructure space. True for most places. So probably the best solution is to drastically increase range which solid state batteries will accomplish.
Solid state is a pipe dream. “Still not there yet” is a convenient lie for you to easily dismiss the reality of electric vehicles becoming superior to ice vehicles
Will be interesting to see how the new model y performance compares at half the price. Jason Cammisa appeared to really like the new model 3 performance
Perfect timing, just as several EV manufacturers are slowing down EV production, due to lack of demand!
Lower demand. Lack of demand would mean zero sales.
Lovin that color
Once again you guys do Porsche product reviews so well. Interesting to see the VW stamp on the suspension (2:28) to the right of Made in Czech - wonder how far down the VW chain this component is due to go (Skoda maybe)?
It comforting that in @ ten years most of the companies will be mass-producing cars like this. If it was 80,000 $ cheaper and even half as powerful I would buy it in a heartbeat! There is no doubt, Porsche makes the best cars and soft SUV out there
I'm pretty resistant to EVs in general. But this Macan and the new Taycan is slowly converting me. Porsche is leading the way for EVs actually being fun. And I thought I'd never say this but, I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the EV Boxster/Cayman has in store for us. If it's anything like the Macan and Taycan, it's going to be epic.
There’s so much to this that’s fascinating. I’d love to have a sporty EV. In my other comment, I noted that I’d been driving my Boxster in the Tetons. 22 hrs from home. I couldn’t bring this EV Macan out here. So much is perspectives, it seems, on this road trip. I’d have one in a heartbeat, but could I take an adventure in it? Do I need to?
Idk. I’ve done a ton of driving lately in my combustion cars, that made me wish I had an EV. I can’t wait for your R2 video when it comes. ICE cars fit into every realm of life better right now. It’s the infrastructure problem. That’s the hump. When we get over that, all’s well.
It's a mistake to not have the option of 1 pedal max regen. With everything this vehicle is capable of doing, that should be a choice for someone who's familiar with EVs and likes that driving style and range extension.
The ability to coast is not a negative since, when done properly, it uses the potential energy of momentum more efficiently than putting some of it back in battery with regen. However, the lack of a single pedal mode is a negative for me since it means more use of the mechanical brakes, which translates to expensive pad and rotor replacement and makes the wheels dirty with tenacious brake dust. My BMW e4 i40 msport has big brakes but I rarely touch them above 5 mph. Flipping the drive selector to the left puts the car in B mode that decelerates at 0.2 g and will bring the car to a halt. It’s fun to try for that perfect chauffeur stop without touching the brake pedal. I drive in D mode on the highway and coast when possible, but flip it to B when I need to slow down. A Macan EV would be a financial stretch for me so it would help if it needed no brake service for at least 100,000 miles.
I know it looks a little bit weird, but I wanna say, this is just the way to have SUVs in the future :)
Yes, you lack engine sound but that's it, dynamics wise it's not hurt, it already was a heavy SUV, as time passes I accept EVs more and more, I am just worried to see how small light sports cars like the MX-5 amd GR 86 will end up being :(
Wait, so we have crossovers with lower seating positions so that people can sit higher?
Premium EVs make me think of the Vertu cell phone. Take what is essentially a commodity product, put it in a fancy shape and charge a luxury price. Genius!
Other than the frunk, ICE Macan had the same space inside: it had two cup holders, holders in the door, etc. CR-V has more space. I don’t see massive improvements in this sense in an electric Macan.
I am really happy that we finally have an affordable Porsche small SUV! 120k dollars is a steal, I am thinking to buy a bunch of them in different colors given how affordable it is! And I cannot wait to hear the cost for replacements if something happens when warranty is over😂😂😂
Porsche has always focused on getting in starting car, setting hvac, setting radion putting into gear and driving. Something that can be appreciated when some makes love to make that whole operation a puzzle to be solved.
12:20 How or drives

Love the mechanical diff in the rear. Can't wait for those to start showing up in cheaper EV's... Maybe a 2028 Gr86??
To each their own, but I think this car looks really good visually at least. Congrats on landing a tire sponsor guys
Great review as usual. The lack of one-pedal driving as even an option is close to a fatal flaw in Porsche’s BEVs - huge mistake … In Porsche ICEVs, you have paddle shifters to down-shift when going down steep inclines or are in stop-and-go traffic where it’s tiresome to always be pressing the brake pedal… that is why you want one-pedal driving at least as an option in BEVs…. I guarantee you that if Porsche offered one-pedal driving as an option, most owners would have it on all the time
This is such a compelling vehicle.
I can't get excited about this. But Porsche needs this car to succeed so it can do the things it wants to do.
Looks very promising. However the biggest detractor with Porsche electric cars are they are constantly in the shop and at exorbitant prices. I don’t think a couple year old car should be in the shop for four months straight at a cost of over 50k for a battery repair (not replacement). This is just one of the many shop visits I have been lucky to take part in the course of my Taycan ownership. With that being said it’s still an amazing car when it works.
Given how quiet it is, your thoughts regarding how 'NVH' might be 'over-represented' as time passes (since it is not masked as much)? In other words, those rattles that pop up may grate much, much more?
Love Jack almost calling it a Pecsn several times during the chassis discussion.
My friends mom just ordered a triple purple spec 4. She’s so pumped
Just wait for a couple years and get it for half the price. It’ll be a killer deal
A future owner. Just ordered one in Europe, delivery in 3 month. Why ? Well 1) government electric car discount (8000EUR) 2) Almost zero year taxes 3) Free parking 4) Allowance to drive bus lanes 5) Depending on installation , probably near to zero charging expenses (private house and night charging when the price is negative , can be done with special apps) . 6) High resale value later. These are main reasons. The car with discounts and perks are cheaper then a bmw 5 3.0 full spec diesel. Will i drive it like a sport car ? Nope. Will i use it to get girls ? Yes. So hello from a regular 40+ european porsche macan customer =]
What’s the mystery country? Thanks!
"Gives me hope for the future" really highlights how dire the car industry has become, through force.
The regen thing is interesting. I have to wonder whether "one-pedal driving" will be a thing in the future. I think I vibe more with Porsche's strategy of giving you the ability to just coast without using paddles or going menu-diving.
Flight of the Conchords on the radio during the test drive; must have been a real quick French lesson haha.
