Here's a little breakdown of the math tutorial! Hope you all understand :)
Firstly, have them name any number between 1-27. (If they choose a single digit number, then steps 1, 4, and 5 can be skipped)
Step 1: Add the digits of the two digit number together to create a single digit number. (Example: 17 = 1+7 = 8.)
Step 2: Determine whether that single digit number is the bottom, middle, or top number within its 3 number category. (Example: 8 is the *middle* number out of 7, *8*, 9)
Step 3: Determine which larger category does it fall into, either the bottom (1, 2, 3), the middle (4, 5, 6), or the top (7, 8, 9). (Example: 8 is inside of the *top* category of 7, 8, 9)
Step 4: Forget the single digit number, and recall the original chosen number (Example: 17)
Step 5: Determine which overall category their *originally chosen number* falls into. Either the bottom (1-9), the middle (10-18), or the top (19-27). (Example: 17 falls within the *middle category* because it is between 10-18)
Step 6: Put your code together starting from step 2, (Example: 17 = Middle, Top, Middle)
Step 7: When dealing the cards into three face-up piles, the spectator notes which pile their card is inside of. The code is the location in which you must stack the pile with their card during the 3 rounds of dealing/stacking. Remember, the locations of bottom middle and top are referring to when the cards are *face-up*, so don't get confused. If the trick doesn't work for you, you most likely mixed up the "top" and "bottom" directions, so just be careful with that!! (Example: 1st round = Middle, 2nd round = Top, 3rd round = Middle).
Side-note: If they choose a single digit number, then there is no need to add the digits considering there is only one digit, you simply just use the number they named. Steps 4 and 5 can also be skipped, because if they choose a single digit number, you can have a code shortcut. The 3rd part of the code will always be *bottom* if they choose a single digit number, because it falls between 1-9!

I would like to tell the spectator initially that, in all card tricks usually a magician makes a prediction bit in this case the spectator will make the prediction and then tell them to select the number between 1-27. I think that would have a pretty fantastic effect

Personally I do it in base 3.
Just remember to subtract one from their chosen number.
    Example, they choose 12.
    Subtract 1, you get 11.
    11 in base 3 is 102.
The 1st time you deal the cards, put the chosen stack at the top. (2)
The 2nd time you deal the cards, put the chosen stack at the bottom. (0)
The 3rd time you deal the cards, put the chosen stack in the middle. (1)

If they choose the number 27, you could add a shuffle that controls it back to the bottom of the deck, otherwise they’ll be able to see clearly before the count that it’ll be the 27th card dealt (the last one laid down face up), which kind of breaks the illusion.

    @themightybrick2264 Před 5 lety

Your explanation is good, but I think the other way is easier. So, you have a random number, say, 17. First, you need to take 1 from it to get 16 (because if your card will be 17th, you need to get 16 cards on top of it). Now, think how many times can 9 fit in 16? Only 1 time. Then, how many times can you fit 3 in what's left (16-9=7) - 2 times. Then, how many times can you fir 1 in what' left (7-3-3=1) - 1 time. So you got 1 "nine", 2 "threes" and 1 "one". Look at these numbers in reverse now. Here we have 1, 2, 1, so it doesn't matter which way around you look at them, just remember you have to account for single units first, then threes, then nines. So you got your 121. In fact, every number out of those 3 could be either 0, 1 or 2. Now, 0 is "t0p", 1 is "m1ddle" and 2 is bottom. So, with 121 you first put your pile in the middle, then bottom, then middle again.
