Socotra Island is an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, belonging to the Socotra Province of Yemen. It was known as "Sudo Island" or "Sukudara" in the Ming Dynasty. It is located approximately 350 kilometers south of the Arabian Peninsula, east of the Horn of Africa, at the junction of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The archipelago consists of four islands, with an area of 3650 square kilometers and a main island area of 3635 square kilometers. Due to long-term isolation from the continental plate, Socotra Island has many unique animal and plant species, many of which cannot be found elsewhere, hence it is known as the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean. The plants on Socotra Island include dragon blood trees, dragon trees, monkey bread trees, Socotra olive trees, and Socotra coconut trees. The animals on the island include Socotra goats, Socotra foxes, Socotra eagles, and Socotra rock iguanas.
