- The WRMK Foil Quill Freestyle pens make it easy to add glitzy foil onto different surfaces that don’t need to go through a laminator. Today is Part 3 of my 3 part series using the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill Freestyle Pens: Stencil, Stamp and Foil, Oh My!
This part is on various techniques using the Freestyle pens with sketching, handwriting (lettering) and tracing. I show the pen widths in foil, how to line up handwriting on a project and how to use a homemade light box to trace images onto patterned paper.

The Freestyle pens make it simple to hand write, sketch or trace foil onto any project you wish. Try it in your planner!
I am always interested in hearing what kind of cardmaking, papercraft and mixed-media projects and ideas you want to see. I’d love to hear any tips and tricks you have with using the Freestyle pens.
Thank you for watching!
Stephanie

loved your ideas just got my pen and you showed so many good ideas that I was thinking about but scared to try .thank you
love your attitude
Thank you for taking the time to work with these tools and then share your knowledge and experience with us. I appreciate it. I plan to have fun with mine:-)
Thank you so much! I just got a pen and had no idea of all the ways of using it. These 3 videos were so informative!!!
Thank you so much for watching, Karen Judy! I'm glad you found the videos helpful!
Thanks for another great video. Love the idea of tracing flowers onto card stock. I have a light box and will give it a try.
Thanks so much for watching, Ann!
How did it turn out using lightbox? I just gave my good lightbox away :( May have to get another one!!
Hi, Stephanie! After seeing your video I was inspired to get out my set of foil pens to write on a journal I just made. It turned out cute but I realize that my biggest problem is writing straight. Oh well. Handmade is never perfect! Thanks for your videos. I always enjoy them. PS. After I carefully drew lines on the foil, I did much better. Thanks for that tip!
Hello, Marilyn! Thanks again for watching! Glad you tried out the pens and were able to get happy results with them. I think that handmade should not stressful, but fun and enjoyable. So, yay for not perfect! 😀
Hi ! Once again thank you. When you were tracing, couldn’t you print on tracing paper and trace through the tracing paper, rather than using graphite? Or is it not hot enough to go through the layers?
Hello, Fionna! Thanks for watching! I had hit-and-miss results with tracing paper. I did better with a very hot broad tip pen and not so well with the standard pen point. Some times even the broad point would have "sketchy" results on my final project. I will experiment more to see if I can get consistent results.
Thank you for such an informative video!! Just what I needed!! PamQ
Hello, Pam! Thanks so much for watching!
I
Thank you very much, SuperGirl1970!
I bought all of it and getting auto ship, I am just now trying these out and realizing they are not worth the hassle!! Omg, teach me a lesson, don't until I watch videos!!
I have the full set for the die cutting machines and love, love, love them. Watching your vids alerted me to the magnetic mat and the freestyle pens. I sooo want the pens now. But am I the only one who just thinks fabric? The cardstock is fine for me with the original pens but for the freestyle I just want to use them to decorate clothes. I wonder if the foil quill foils are washable? I know that you can get fabric foils.
Hello, MsAusarian! Thanks for watching! I know WRMK is showing it on ribbon and leather, but nothing washable. I will test these on some fabric and wash it to see. I will post a follow up video in a week or so with all of the cool ideas every one has.
Very good video! I've been considering purchasing this product but cricut does not recommend using it I. Your machine. You have made me see how I can use it in a different way. Tfs❣
Thanks for watching, Dianna! I appreciate your kind words!
Can you use this tool to cut out stencils?
Thanks again for all the ideas. Do they sell those pens at Joann's? I was wondering if maybe one of those small irons (it's on a long pencil type holder with maybe a one inch triangular shape that heats up) that are used for quilts and seams from the sewing section might help fill in on various cards. What do you think?
Thanks for watching Susan! I see them in Joann's online. They may be in the stores too. Great idea on the craft iron! I'm not sure it is small enough for cards, but I think I will see if I can find mine and test it.
@@stampjg I'm thinking if you stamp on the foil and then you can see where to use the flat part of the little seam Iron. Just a thought. Something to play around with.
Hello, I have recently purchased the foil quill freestyle. Have you any idea how come I obtain no solid lines? I use an extension cord. Could it be that the freestyle pen is not warm enough this way? Is it better to stabbing it straight into the socket instead of an extension?
Hello Annita! I can think of a couple of things to try. Yes, it could be that the pen isn't hot enough. Do you let it warm up 5 minutes or longer? You could try it straight into the USB socket if you have one. Also, if the foil isn't held down with tape or magnets so that it is smooth and wrinkle- free, the pen might skip. Writing slowly will help and maybe putting a piece of cardstock under your project.
OMG, I am so enthusiastic. Thank you for the help. The pen was probably not warm enough. I did it directly in the socket and it is going great now
Yay! I'm so glad you got it to work!
Phew, I was too soon very glad. Have tried again the next day and now it does not work anymore. As if the pins are not hot enough. No idea where it is. Do it again now plugged in and even 10 minutes or longer wait but does not help. Try again tomorrow and hope that it succeeds. 'M so sorry for was so excited.
@@annitahenkens Annita, I'm sorry you are having problems. Maybe try another plug or adapter. If that doesn't work, contact We R Memory Keepers through their website. They may be able to help you or replace your pen if it is defective.
I wonder if tracing paper would work. I want to try to copy ephrema on tracing paper and then line up to add foil to jazz up digital ephrema. My pens have not arrived yet
Hi, Maria! Thanks for watching! I had mixed results with tracing paper. I think going slow with the pen, and possibly using the broadest tip would give better results. Ju ope you enjoy you new pens when they arrive!
I dont like the hand pens, not of them. The one for cricut works wonderful
You jinxed us for 2020 :-) jk
Yeah that aged badly haha
Way too much work involved
