- Colter Wall has seen a great deal of success in a relatively short amount of time. An old soul and wise beyond his years; Colter is only scratching the surface of the impact he will have on the country music industry. He knows his intentions and continues to improve his craft as a singer/songwriter by pushing himself to be a little better every day.

Colter Wall and Tyler Childers are the future of country and if they don’t gain more respect with time country is no longer country
Those 2 and vincient Neil Emerson, Zach Bryan and a couple others are the only country artists I listen to
Tyler's a sell out. Hes too happy nowadays.
Its colter and zack Bryan.
vne, colter wall, tyler childers, sturgill simpson, sierra ferrell, charley crockett, brent cobb, jesse daniel, zack bryan… they’re all on repeat for me right now
@@skylerpepin449 country music isn't all about being sad man trying to put the genre in a box is what caused it to end up the way it is today
I'm okay with it if they stay away from Nashville the recognition is there and the way they are now reminds me of true outlaw country
For someone that seems to avoid the spotlight and interviews, he’s incredibly charismatic and gives thoughtful answers
Right. Crazy he declined a podcast with joe Rogan
That might be why he’s better at interviewing. He’s a little more authentic and thoughtful, not just fake and attention seeking.
What he has to remember is country music fans are sick to death of hip hop country. To the point of not even listening. We welcome the raspy voice and old school tone of his music. That's why he's blown up so fast. That's the music we love. Take Aaron Lewis for example. A style all of his own and a huge following for it. Keep it real little brother. Love what you do!
I'm so over the hip hop country.
We all want the acoustic guitar maybe a few other instruments for accompaniment a good lapsteel perhaps not what country is today which is glorified pop and crap but we want our country music to tell us a story like it used to
Well said. Aaron Lewis…Tyler Childers….Cole Chaney…. And Colter Wall….Zach Bryan….
we're so lucky you're here to save us.
Billy strings belongs in the convo imo
The first time I heard Colter Wall, I thought he was close to a country version of Tom Waites. This was fun to listen to a humble man with a huge talent.
I can't believe this guy is 28 years old! his songs like if were made 200 years ago
Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, and Charley Crockett are the future.
Dude,I got back to country music thanks to you. And I stayed.
I love his old and his new stuff. The old stuff for sure has that raw growl that just hits you in the chest.
I love that deep, raspy growl! Please don’t ever lose that sound! I was introduced to your music (The Devil Wears A Suit & Tie, and Kate McCannon from the Brewery Sessions) only 48 hours ago. You’d barely sang “Reverend, Reverend please come quick” and I became addicted! I’ve been bingeing since then. Experiment with your range, but please - NEVER abandon that early sound. It’s mesmerizing and so unique!
I think he can't sustain the low growl. It's too low for him and difficult and uncomfortable to consistently replicate live. Not to mention it could damage his voice.
He’s already abandoned it… check out his two latest albums. Western swing is a little higher pitched but little songs has a more natural deep singing voice.
If he kept doing that “growl,” his vocal chords wont last. He still has a great distinct voice since he learned how to sing
I listen to these every chance I can even sitting on the tractor and playing through some headphones. Keeps my eyes open on everything and have honestly learned a lot that I can apply. Just wanted to express my gratitude for you making these thanks man
I forget how I ended up coming across his music. I know the first song I heard was Kate McCannon. I remember I couldn’t wait to get home and share with my mother, who got me into country music, that woah I found REAL country music that actually tells a story! He is definitely a start in leading this generation of new country back to something real, raw, and respectable.
Just heard 'Sleepin' on the Blacktop' last Sunday on Yellowstone, and not being a true Country Music fan, had no idea who Colter was. I was instantly taken with the voice and music. Thanks to you as well for such a great interview - it's enabled me to know a little more about him and appreciate his music even more. : )
Love to see such a talented person speak on always improving and finding his own voice.
My absolute favorite Colter-interview (full length). 👌 You ask all the questions I want Colter to answer, and he's so clever and humble, and you're just.. great! Can't say this enough, I love the quotes and basically everything you do. (Terlingua-video was amazing!!) ❤👌👍🤙😊 Keep them coming!
Like horse training, it's what you learn after you know it all that counts! I love hearing country music coming back to country!👏🤩
Love the early stuff and growl! The change in you has been interesting to watch!
Colter Wall is the best thing in country music for me right now, Tyler Childers is second. But when I heard that rasp in the voice on the Brewery Sessions I thought that was the best country voice I had ever heard. I think no matter what style he goes with, obviously that's his choice, but do not lose that voice, that rasp, because that's what brought you here. Maybe people who are high in the industry have told Colter he needs to tone it down but I just hope he keeps that rasp in future songs and keeps it on the old ones, like Kate McCannon.
Zach Bryan is the best song writer prolific every song has feeling and meaning. I love Colter and Tyler as well all of them are great.
honestly, when I was first introduced to him, I loved songs like Sleeping on the Blacktop and Kate McCannon but I've later come to appreciate his new work.
It never felt like he enjoyed singing with really deep and raspy voice. Now he seems way more free and content with his newer production. It feels way more natural and sounds better to me.
Colter I don’t give a shit what you do just be happy and keep making music please!
Great interview. Liked the questions about the vocal changes. He is way cooler than I ever knew.. gonna check out his music better.
As Metalhead who listens to 80% Death Metal majority of the time lol. If I'm listening to other genres i.e., Jazz, Hip Hop, Pop and Country. My go to Country artists is Colter Wall, Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson. Colter Wall reminds me of Johnny Cash / Hank Williams. Cheers mate for the interview. Even Joe Rogan is trying to get Colter Wall on his podcast lol.
I grew up on Led Zeplin Black Sabbath Rush the Scorpions ect. Her I am 40 plus years later loving Colter Wall.
From Pennsylvania....keep being you!
It’s crazy how a 27 year old can write songs better than a lot of 37 year olds who have been Doing it been doing it way longer
I’ve heard a couple of his songs stolen riffs basically…Townes’ relatives should be suing him for Sleeping on the Blacktop…
Whiskey , Childers , Wall . Are the best
The new voice is an absolute improvement. The deep voice is great for specific songs but definitely limits your playing style. Congrats on evolving and expanding your talent.
Oh we're listening bud
Your boys hat is on point
If I’m not listening to Rylo Rodriguez or nocap I’m bumpin colter!
The people who talk down to other's who are living their dream, are really hard to take seriously. We have to bless them and let them go. Pray for them to find some peace in their souls.
Bad ass country hero
Hey Colter, just be yourself, your voice was is amazing, nothing to improve, thoughts obscure your natural given talent, just sing from your heart, not your head.
"lets make it hit home with the
hats"
I think he learned how to sing but also puberty lol he was 19 and you don’t get your real man voice until after 22.
Colter, it is unfair of you to take your "growling into the microphone" away from me/us. Your unique sound is what we fell in love with. Kindly, unlearn how to sing, please.
Don’t change the gruffness in you voice. Authentic and rare!!
It's kinda not authentic he's from Canada
@@georgemichael86 you ever been to Canada? Lmao
@@Rockit181he's from Saskatchewan which is cowboy country
@@loganzentgraf3708 do they sound like that when they talk in Saskatchewan? Having met people from there, they do not
@@Rockit181 it's just his voice I guess
how does it feel to know that Colter did your podcast but has been turning down rogan for over a year? I would feel mad validated.
4:00 If you do what others wont then you'll get the results they don't.. If your voice can maintain it then Id keep doing it how you started, not a time to get academic about it. If it ain't broke(and wont break soon) then don't fix it.
He needs to go back to his roots. The voice
He had when he started singing. Everyone that heard it loved it. The raspy growling voice he had before is what people loved. Seems like he definitely let the music industry get in his head and try to change him. Screw them and go back to what you do best. Don’t change!
Wouldn't the music industry want him to keep his old voice? I think he should do whatever he wants. He can't force a deep voice his whole career it's too one dimensional
I do agree, I just hope he does both and sings how he wants but keeps the rasp in some future songs and his old ones.
I do like his old voice but I would much rather he do what he wants
I like your earlier voice but all of your music is incredible. Don't emulate others. Be your unique self.
I’m just curious where the southern country drawl comes from…still didn’t answer my question
I hear a Canadian accent.
@@cuzz63when he talks I do too…but when he sings he bawls like a beagle in Montgomery
@@chihuahuancamel ever notice how some Europeans sound almost American when they sing?
@@cuzz63 ummmm yea…but specifically from the heartland/southern states. I’m from Texas and my extended family from South Georgia so when someone is singing with a fake southern accent I hear it right away and it grinds me to no end. I COULD GO OFF…but let’s just say one name…lol at first I said Colter wall didn’t realize where this post came from but he’s one of the ones doing a lot of mimicry-I do like the music even though some of it is straight plagiarized…it’s well plagiarized and I like the songs he’s plagiarizing… . Authentic accent -Miley Cyrus even though I don’t love all her music that’s her real voice and she can do a lot of different things with it , inauthentic and grinds me to no end-Sam Elliot a la roadhouse original and The Big Lebowski narration-from California-where in the hell did that voice come from…and it sounds so canned and fake to me.
Examples of non southern native who nailed southern accent-Cole Hauser-Yellowstone, and the GOAT Capt Gus McCrae (Robert Duvall in Lonesome Dove). In fact all the voice work on Lonesome Dove was pretty spot on
Oh, so that's his speaking voice
He had some serious sunburn. Ouch!
Bodybag
Any vocal coach can tell you he's got it backwards. The voice he's using now is gonna be more damaging long term. Not a lot of straining on imaginary Appalachia, but on his new stuff you can hear how hard he's forcing it. He's gonna wish he stuck with what he was doing in the first place.
watch his live performances from 5 years ago. Hes squinting in pain every word trying to sing as low as he used to. This is his more natural range.
ngl i miss his old singing style when he “didn’t know how to sing”
I learned how to sing??? I still look for the old voice hoping you will go back. The new stuff, not a fan, doesn't resonate. Don't listen to producers, they didn't get you to where you are. I need some old Kolter Wall!!!!!!!!!
Dude, listen again…everything is great :)
You must be the only fan who thinks that. Colter wasnt listening to producers, he simply learned what he was doing was damaging and couldnt last. Since he learned how to sing he will have a longer and better career.
This is the future of country music. The music now is trash sorry!
And Joe Rogan said Colter doesn’t do interviews. Guess he was wrong about that shit.
Yea. There’s a difference between a 3 hour podcast and a 17 minute interview though
@@alexxccccxbbb9952 sure is but I specifically heard him use the word interview. So I had to come check for myself. Don’t get me wrong I’m a Rogan fan like everyone else and would love to see Colter on there.
@@WOMPITUS yea. Maybe colter just doesn’t like Rogan lol
Big difference from doing this and going on JRE. This gets 100k views and JRE is gonna get 5 million views. I don’t think Colter wants that kind of exposure he would get from doing JRE, where this interview is only gonna be watched by fans of his music or fans of country music.
You don’t wear a hat indoors, even I know that
God shut up with these “I stand up to shake a man’s hand” BS. You’re not on the range living the lonesome dove life.
Everyone I know wears a hat inside. This isnt early settlers years anymore buddy
Such BS...I literally just heard him tonight and then I hear this when searching for more songs. Nah...CW...don't be like everyone else!!
Musicians with integrity, shit blows my mind. That statement at the end talkin about lets get the people these songs are about listening and not worry about pushing numbers was cool as shit. Seems like thats what we had the 90s with metal bands and a lot of country but the 2000s hit and now its all about the phat chains and loose women. Colter Wall, Benjamin Tod, Bob Wayne, Sierra Farrel, Nick Shoulders and Tyler Childers are all a breath of fresh air!!!
