    I’m just getting back into the hobby after 20 years and I’ve only been focusing on buying packs of two sets that I like. I’m opening some with my wife and holding some with the hope that they grow in price, but with the mindset that if in 5-10 years they don’t grow as much as I’d like in value, well then I have packs of sets I like that will then be rare to find and can crack them open for the same original MSRP as opposed to the inflated price down the line.

    At the end of the day, collecting Pokemon cards is a privilege and we should all remind ourselves of this when contemplating the investment aspects of the hobby. Don't ruin a good thing by chasing the dollar, sometimes things are meant to be enjoyed and appreciated simply for what they are and if you're not able to do that then maybe stepping away is the most healthy option.

    Yo Phillip - I love your channel a lot and always appreciate the content and perspective you bring. Speaking just for myself, I prefer your older videos where you were just talking to the camera, rather than your more recent heavily-edited videos. I understand that it might lead to higher retention and your skills are noteworthy, but it felt important enough for me to drop this comment. Just talking to the camera seemed more genuine. Maybe there are certain types of videos that align with the edited style and others that are more direct to camera...my 2c. Cheers.

      My man really appreciate this feedback! I totally understand your point of view.
      I am currently reviewing different styles of editing and seeing how they perform and will make some future decisions based on this.
      Production value is important in this space as its a highly competitive market within CZcams, so I have been focusing on adding more of a high quality viewing experience.
      Though I have taken on this feedback and will use this to make the channel better, we can only get better!
      Appreciate it.

    Thanks for the advice. Just getting into it with Stellar Crown. I think it's going to do really well so I preordered a case of that and Stellar Miracle. I might be going against the grain but I also like Shrouded Fable so I preordered a case of that too. I'll probably open a a few for fun (not worried about losing money, I like collecting myself too) and see how long it takes for packs vs sealed cases to sell after they go up a bit and how long that will take. It's pretty fun. I sold my first few singles as well. I'll be adding that to the list of things I'll sell once I see what the hitters are. I'm shooting more for medium hits to start with and not so much the big bucks. I also want to buy ungraded singles and grade them and relist. It's all a lot of fun, regardless of the profit honestly! We will see how long that lasts lol.

    Think imma have to start taking notes lol. Appreciate the vid. Personally i budget ro buy my items and try to habe reasonable goals for both collecting and investing. Like i bought the metagross recently cauze i like it. Id like to buy some more for investing cause its a sick card imo but imma wait cause that hurts my budgeting. Id rather buy some singles i like and add to my personal collection while also buying some sealed and other singles to then sell down the road to make some profit. Its important to have real expectations when buying these things and grow your collection slowly overtime. Also its a hobby so enjoy it!

    Great video and very informative. I agree that Pokémon collecting/investing needs to have balance. My personal strategy is to buy a couple booster boxes of a new set to rip and have fun. Then after that I usually wait a month or two for my favorite singles to hit their low on TCG (which is usually the long term low) and purchases them (assuming I haven’t pulled them already). It works for me and lets me have fun ripping packs while still building up a nice collection that is continuously gaining value over time.

    Great Advice, I am pretty new to collecting (again)/ content creation and I have just been collecting to collect right now bc I enjoy pokemon as a whole. However, I can already see how buying just to buy rather than invest in what you love can take its toll and ruin something you love. Keep up the good content!

    I bought 4 or 5 battle styles elite training boxes because I got them for a low and I just opened one just to see and because I love opening. I actually love the set and I completely understand why people don't appreciate it because they have a somewhat different take on battling and what not. Overall I can completely enjoy the set and think that it is one of the most slept on sets. I feel like the cards have deep and a different type of texturing that is almost unmatched. Anyways thank you so much for your videos!

  • @Grenjitenji
    @Grenjitenji Před měsícem

    I like the art collection comparison. The alt arts, illustration rares and special illustration rares are the main reason I started collecting. Investing is really not the primary reason, I just think the new artworks are genuinely neat and I just want to have it in my own personal collection. I didn't really get art collectors before, "Why would someone spend so much on a piece of art that they can look at a version of on the internet for free?" But now I really get the perspective of owning a piece of beautiful art.
    The great part of collecting these nice cards is storage as well. I imagine art collectors need a ton of hanging wall space. But with pokemon cards, you need a box or a binder to store what you like, and a display to show off a ton of prized works takes comparatively less space. There's gotta be a TCG museum of some sort in the world to look at other really cool cards.

  • @shardcards6474
    @shardcards6474 Před měsícem

    I agree with your approach mostly, but I will give one big con for investing into what you like that i experience every day and it is really a huge issue with this concept imho. If I invest in card or set I like meaning it is an emotional decision not based only on cold heart logic. I tend to have issue with exiting the investment at the right time, cause it is a posession that I like and it is hard for me to part with it (thoughts like, i could never get this again for this price, i would miss it etc.) which suddenly makes the ivestment into a hypotetical investment cause i never cash out, so the profit is actually not real as it is never taken. It is much easier to part with products that i didn't like at all once they raise enough.

    Very informative. It's good to have a genuine interest in what you're investing. The genuine interest will lead to the want to have more knowledge of the card, or whatever else it is you're collecting, which could open the door to something new or simply being happy with what you've learned.
