So helpful! I’m quite short and have been trying to figure out how to hem my shirts while preserving the curved hem. I’m excited to try this out!
I would have never thought to do this. I am hemming my husband's shirt with curved hem today. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us!
Yes!!... I am not a tall person, and I always have to shorten all of my shirts...This method is Fantastic! and I have the time now to do all my shirts...This proves yet again that you can Always learn something new about sewing..Thank you!!
I absolutely agree you can always learn something new! I’m glad it was helpful.
This is another terrific tip for sewing a narrow hem. Really great -- I never would have thought of this, thanks!
Me neither! Thanks so much! How about shortening shirts with longer back hem?
I discovered you only recently. Please allow me to compliment you on your teachings style as well as your techniques. I love that you show how to do it correctly not just quickly. Stitching that hem before cutting, rather than cutting first and trying to double-fold as you go is brilliant! And I think it takes less time. It is for sure more accurate. The newest style for guys is wearing shirts untucked. But conventional shirts are made longer for tucking. So they are selling shorter shirts made expressly for being worn untucked. This technique will save me hundreds of dollars. Thanks.
cdvax11 Thank you for your comments! I appreciate your feedback! Yes, I think we tend to do things quick and easy instead of focusing on excellence!
Amazing. It worked perfectly. No pinning, no ironing, just simple and neat. Thank You.
Thank you for your feedback. I’m glad it worked out for you!
In quarantine and I just learned a new skill.
This is perfect. Thanks! 👍
I must say this is so efficient. You do such a good job streamlining the process. I think it’s brilliant! Thank you!
Thank you!
What a great video. I used this method to short the hem of a curved dress and it worked perfectly
This was so helpful and I had a great result by following your tutorial- I’m delighted as is my husband! Thank you so much!
I'm so glad you got great results! Thank you for your feedback!
This is the best method for shortening a dress shirt! Thank you so much! My project turned out perfectly!
Wonderful!
I used this and it worked, so thank you!
This is exactly what I need 🥰🥰. Thank you so much ❤️
As a man who only owns a sewing machine, somehow I feel that this may take me some time to get it right! BUT Thank you! This helped a lot!
You’re welcome!
I tried your technique and it worked very well. Thank you.
H Toma Great! Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate it!
Very clear and concise instructions. Thanks !
Glad it was helpful!
You are a genius! I’m so glad I found this video!
I’m glad you found it too! ☺️
Great job thanks for the video, this baby hem is done with special foots even like that you can see the twisting of the fabric in some shirts I'm going to try this method. Thanks. Cheers from California.
I’ve never really been good with the narrow hem foot, especially going around curves or on the bias. This method gives you better control. I hope you have great results doing it this way.
Very helpful! Thank you!
Thanks, will definitely try this ☺
Thank you dear you saved my marriage as hubby thought I can only spend money more on alterations than the shirt price .
Yes, alterations can get expensive!
Excatly what I was needing Straight and to the point Thank you os much I subscribed!!
Thank you!!
Briliant!! Thanks for the tutorial :)
Thank you! I appreciate your comments.
Amazing alternation 👌
This was great, now I am onto the Tapering video! 💕 Susan in Hobart.
Thank you for the info it was really helpful, I was about to tailor, they will make us run around . ✌️
Oh yeah, just do it yourself. Men’s alterations are pretty easy!
I've seen Manu videos to hem rounded areas and I must say I loved this technique, new suscríber 👏👏♥♥
I prefer the fit of men's shirts, but they are always too long for my torso. Gotta try this out!
This is an excellent tutorial & method,........ trying to use a rolled hem attachment on a sewing machine is really difficult for us beginners, Im gonna try this on some older shirts as I like to wear my shirts untucked - thank you, thank you, thank you.
You’re welcome!
Thank you mam i learned something new during this quarantine more power to you 🙂😇
Thank you very much for your video , you are very cleaver, I have done lots of t shirts by watching your idea .
I’m so happy to her that! Thank you for your feedback
Well we'll I love it, as a man that I love untucked shirts I love your video. I have dress shirts but they are 2long, so now I can do the alterations myself. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏
Wonderful! Then you’ll probably like the video I’m currently working on.
@@AngelaWoolsey great!!! Thanks!!
Thanks so much, I just found you and the Untuckit style is popular for men but they charge twice for it. Now I can make my own for cheap.
Wow
This so helpful
Thank you
Thank you!
Thank you so much
Still watching this in 2023! Thanks Angela!
Thank you
The best. !!
She's good!
Thank you for the great tutorial! What is your best advice for getting over a thick hump at the side seams?
For a dress shirt, I’d just go slow over it. For thicker fabric, I’d use a Jean-a-ma-jig

Thank you for sharing this video! Much appreciated. Your teaching style is clear and concise. The one minor thing (and this is probably my fault) is that viewing the video on a phone, it’s hard to see some of the details. A little more light, and perhaps a few closeups at key times would help. But perhaps if I just viewed this on my computer, it would be better, so that criticism might be unfair.
Either way, thank you so much for taking the time to post this!!
That is an accurate comment. I have tried to change the way I record my videos. I hope the newer ones are better. I appreciate all comments that nudge me to be and do better work. Thank you!
Thank you very much
You are good, but use dark marker for marking
I wonder if you might have any advice about a straight hem casual dress shirt. I followed these instructions which worked well except where your tabs were my shirt has side slit vents. I opened the seam slit up higher to accommodate the shortening but above the slit the shirt had very rough hems unfinished edges.
Thanks 😊
I like all ur videos
Gurpreet Singh Thank you! :)
That's worth 2 Thumbs Up to me! Thanks.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
Thank you for this tutorial. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me and made the hem curl outwards in an unsightly manner.
I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe a good steam and press then the use of a clapper will help with the final result.
Thank you Angela. I shall be giving this a go on the next shirt. That looks like it makes the hem a simple job now rather than an absolute pain. Also what is the gain with those weird shaped scissors please. Cheers Edward
Since I’ve had a few questions regarding those scissors, I recorded a video explaining what they are and why and how I use them. I’m hoping to have this video uploaded tonight.
@@AngelaWoolsey cheers that will be interesting. Edward
Good idea.. thank you from INDIA 💞
You're welcome! It's nice to see I have viewers from India! Welcome to my channel!
Awesome
Thank you!
tailoring my prom shirt, this is major helpful cuz its too long haha
Nice!!
Thank you madam for the video I have stitch just how you have shown it came really very good , I have a request if you can show me how to alter longpan
Im sorry, I don’t understand. What is longpan?
Thank you very much
Thank you for this excellent video. Would you please tell me why you did not press the seam before you first stithced and cut, and then again when you folded and ran the next stitching run?
I didn’t press the shirt until I was finished because it really didn’t require it and it would make the job take longer. You only really need to press it at the very end. When I teach someone how to do an alteration, I try to make it as quick and easy as possible while still doing it right. I have done a couple of “easy Peazy” videos that are easier and faster but not exactly what I consider “correctly done”
@@AngelaWoolsey Thank you 🧡💛💚💙💜🖤
@@lunapatterson2001 love the gay little hearts!
very nice video, would it be feasible to stitch a shirt in this way by hand?
Yes, I think this could be hand sewn.
I liked your video. However I wished you used a fabric where the two sides of the fabric are not alike but so different that I could easily follow the steps. I had to go back several times and still not sure if I got it. Thank you.
That would have been a good idea!
Thanks. I removed the last button also. How to camouflage the hole?
When I cut the shirt, I try to get the hole close to the hem where it would be either tucked under or completely cut off. You could always stitch it closed from the underside but I would not remove the stitches because then you would just have a hole in your shirt
@@AngelaWoolsey ok thank you. I will stitch it closed
Wouldn't it b better to top stich it on the right fabric?
Side meanI
Claudia Goodman I’m sorry, I don’t understand your question. Are you talking about stitching it from the right side instead of using chalk?
Doresc traducere si in limba română. Multumesc
Thank you...I still don't get the "duck" scissors. Why are they designed that way?
The wide, flat part of the scissors helps to keep the lover layer of fabric flat and out of the way when you’re cutting.
I got lost at the end . You went back over it again?
Ronnie Jones Yes. When you hem a woven fabric you have to fold it twice so that the raw edges aren’t exposed, or you’ll have threads hanging out. The first time I sewed, it was for the first fold. I trimmed the excess fabric off, folded and sewed it again to hide the exposed threads.
Dear madam thank you for sharing its very helpful and perfect 👍, I have a request could you please share how to cut long leggings to short leggings
I’m visiting family in another state, but when I get back home, I can do that video. I have a few that I need to shorten for myself. :)

If you’re going to wear the shirt out, she’s right the button will be too close to the bottom of the shirt and will look weird. If you are going to wear the shirt tucked in like she said… then what’s the point in shortening the shirt to begin with?!
well, she was talking abt BIG alterations.
is she marking it with a bar of soap?
I'm using tailors chalk. amzn.to/3q1sdqK
@@AngelaWoolsey Ok, thanks. I didn't realize they made this stuff. Enjoyed the vid too :)
Thank you!
