Oh the joy in my guitar journey, long before the internet, when a friend showed me how to slide into an A chord on this song! I was suddenly in high cotton. I still like it.

Where would I be without CZcams and James James? Wow.....love just watching these, let alone attempting to play them....sometimes I win, most times I lose the struggle....

Greetings -- long long long time fan. Just stumbled upon this video. Love it. I hear them using the F#minor the first few times and then a very pronounced use of the F# Major on the last time. I love your channel and hope you continue guiding us for years to come, thank you!!

They originally wrote it with F#m and later changed it to F#Maj.

Thanks for showing me I completely didn't know what I was doing when I played this song the last thousand times. But I'm learning it now. Gonna have to get someone else to sing, though. By the way, I think my attitude about singing is the same as yours - my lack of singing ability is the problem of the listener.

So happy to see that you have added the Dead to your teaching repertoire. I'm thinking your intuition on the F#minor is correct. JDarks, RuKind and the Grateful Dead chordbook I bought in '94 all show F#m (not Major). It makes more sense diatonically, too (as you indicated). I'm no expert though. Would not be surprised if there are variations in all the recordings that are available. Thanks for all the fantastic tutorials - love that goldtop!

Saw Grateful Dead way back, here in London. It was an extended jam session which my girlfriend (now wife) didn't appreciate! Love that guitar - looks & sounds delicious.

i'm not in to Gibsons at all, but I am really digging yours though, the p90s and the tone are really good and something about it is catching my eye, i play a strat and a pretty dope JG wolf guitar that i spent about a year building from scratch

Respectfully disagree about the F# major after the C#m chord in the verse - F# minor (6th chord in key of A is minor) sounds a much better musical fit to my ear. Yeah, I know in many songs the 2 chord is played as major, often as a bridge to the 4 chord....but to my taste, a similar substitution doesn't work so well with the 6th chord, at least in the context of this song.
    Just my $.02 FWIW
