This was one of those songs that was written as a challenge to Akane. "Rinne" from the previous album was the first, at 190 BPM, and this one gets up to 220. If you watch Herman Li's interview of Miku and Kanami, Kanami asks Herman what Dragonforce's fastest song is, and Herman said it was 225. Kanami implied that she's going to top that. The technical guitar work was Kanami, but Miku does the fast chugging at the beginning.* During the premier of the live version (double release with Manners), Kanami made sure to comment in the chat that Miku really was playing it live. If you want a bass feature, "I Still Seek Revenge" is straight funk metal. There's no live version available. *Kanami records all the guitar parts in the studio. Miku only records vocals. P.S. Even if it isn’t on the list for a while, you may want to go ahead and film a reaction to “Catharsis” acoustic, because they’ve indicated it’s only going to stay on CZcams temporarily.

I agree with what others have said about the Manners/Black Hole video on Band-Maid's CZcams channel - you really should watch it for your personal enjoyment now that you have reacted and reviewed both songs. I think you will appreciate Saiki's vocals more in the live version, not to mention Misa's bass sound.
Thanks, David! Unseen World is full of interesting twists and turns: overall it's pretty energetic, but beyond that, it's very hard to categorize. The Maids tried to both maintain a link to their more recognizable past sound while at the same time bringing in new musical elements and experiments. Thanks for the review, and I hope you get to try out a few more tracks from that album. Would be interesting to get your take on songs like Giovanni, HGK, I Still Seek Revenge, Why Why Why, etc. Also, they just dropped a cut from their Christmas acoustic set called Catharsis (the original is from their previous full album Conqueror).
As others have said a live version is paired with 'Manners'. They are paired together for a good reason. The bass. It is very prominent in both songs. Just my view. Manners is definitely worth a listen, on your way to Black Hole here's the link from the BAND-MAID site czcams.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/video.html
yeah but the manners MV is a much better version to hear first- it really brings to groove out more and has more impact than the one with blackhole. and manners is a better song than black hole (tho i love bh too) so i dont support recommending the live duo before hearing manners mv.
Great reaction and agree, first time hearing this I think my brain froze. I needed at least 5 more listens to start to hear all the different parts and I did hear MISA playing lead bass pretty much the whole time. FYI, Kanami plays all guitar parts on official recording, Miku is all the other voices and other vocal embellishments on all recordings. During their live performance they do use a backing track for some of Miku's parts. The last interesting thing is that if you look at the lyrics, you'll notice that this is really about a black hole (I speculated that Stephen Hawkins gave Mike divine guidance there).
KANAMI asked Herman Li (Dragon Force) what the fastest song he plays (225bpm) Kanami stated that 220 was her fastest (BLACK HOLE) but she would write a song for 225bpm. Herman Li video here czcams.com/video/oS2U9YzaFK8/video.html
It took me several listens to assimilate "Black Hole", but now I love it, it's been fun to see your expressions and very interesting to hear your evaluations ;) One of the things I like about BAND-MAID is their ability to mix styles, in my opinion I think their music is hard-rock at the edge of metal, but there are always more or less subtle touches of funk, punk, pop, even jazz and progressive, although they are able to make it all sound coherent and well united, not like a pastiche. It's true that MISA (my favourite and the first one that made me notice BAND-MAID) isn't heard as much as in other tracks, but it does have a couple of moments where it stands out, but the sound is still excellent and your score proves it ;) Thanks for your opinions as always ;) Greetings from Spain ;) (Automatic translation by software)
Thanks for the reaction Sir, if scientists could harness the frentic energy of this tune there would never be an energy crisis anywhere😄 Took me a while to get into this tune but it's now a mind meld and after umpteen listens I'm still finding nuances the Maids have put in, bloody marvelous and bloody amazing, cheers 👍🍻
Really nice reaction!. The song took me a few listens to process. Akane really shines on their last album...Unseen World. Per interviews.. she has spent a lot of pandemic time practicing.
Akane's drumming is like you said, not just double kick. It's colourful, interesting, fluid, playful and energetic all at the same time in my subjective opinion. Please don't call the police because I don't want her taken away!!!
"someone needs to call the cop and have her arrested"🤣 Yes, because she was speeding outrageously, not because she was beating the hell out of her drum kit🤣 Akane performs this song with her big smile. You can see it in the live video of Manners/Black Hole from their official channel👍😉
Akane is incredible. The variety in her playing is outstanding. Haruna is a machine. Her double kick work is relentless. Murata Tamu of Nemophila is an amazing drummer as well. One of the best. She can play many styles of music in and out of the band. Yes, this song is wonderfully manic. Really like it. I love the Band Maid live stuff but sometimes prefer studio because I can pick out more of Akane's excellent drum work. Another great reaction DH.
What really scary is they played this like and it sounder better. And during this song Akane was smiling and pulling faces at the camera (sadly not included in the official live video) defiantly one of their songs that you hear more with each listen and I do recommend checking out the live manners/ black hole on their official page (black hole starts at 4:20 of you have not heard manners yet) great reaction as always
This is my favorite song off the Unseen World LP, If you get a chance check the live version from there virtual concert it was impressive. and just fyi you can really hear Misa in that version.
Since the lyrics are about a black hole in space, the frantic music is kinda fitting. ;) I may be in the minority, but I'm glad you listened to the studio version. Main reason is Akane's double kick work. The live version as fantastic as it is has one major drawback, the kick drum is way too quiet in the mix. I think the song loses a lot of its speed and punch because of that. Also, it was an online stream concert with no audience because of Covid. So your live performance rating wouldn't be that high, i guess. Great reaction, seeing your amazement and confusion put a grin on my face.
Yeah I agree. The lead guitar was also too quiet. The bass however was front and center so I think Mr. Heretic may have enjoyed that aspect of the live version.
Agreed. Their online okyujis have had considerable (and understandable) problems in this area. They try to fix them after for these videos but they can only do so much. I remember, I think it was their December show in 2020 started with Akane's snare and Saiki's mic waaay too loud but they managed to sort that one out pretty quickly. The quality has steadily improved over time. Growing pains!
@@drogonr9318 For sure he would like it. I just wanted to mention the main reason, since I don't like posting a wall of text. Despite all the mixing issues, it's still an insanely good song/live performance.
Others have sent you the link to the official live video (Manners/Black Hole). I just want to add that "Black Hole" starts at 4:20, so you can jump to that if you want in case someone requests "Manners" (which someone might because they added a sweet drum/base intro which wasn't in the MV). BTW, Akane has said "Black Hole" is her favorite BM song to play, for obvious reasons.
Regarding Black Hole Konami came to Akane and asked her what the highest BPM that she had drummed to. They then bumped it up a bit because Akane wanted a challenge! Also keep a close eye on Saiki's eyes!!
Yay, i finally got a mention for all of the Band-Maid requests! Your look at 4:22 is what i was waiting for....haha. I'm happy you did the studio version as you can hear the guitars better and Akane's kickdrum sounds like a cannon. The live version on their youtube channel has louder bass for Misa but everything else is much quieter and less clear. The reason i request Band-Maid so much on here and other reactors is because i'm waiting to see if ya'll find a song that's not at least a 7 or 8. I find Band-Maid unbelievable in that they have over a 100 songs and there's a bad song among them.
Awesome David!!! Man...I'd love this to be used in a Black Hole movie remake (VINCENT's my name...Sharp-Shootin's my game 😁). Agree with all, you'll love the official Live 2fer...and you'd appreciate the album Unseen World (they don't call Akane Gorilla for nothing!!). Peace ✌
If you really want to hear MISA's bass, I suggest you to watch the live version of "BLACK HOLE". The song is even more impressive on a live setting than the studio version. Thanks for your reaction and review
Nod to the Black Hole movie.....remember seeing that at the cinema back in the 70's....A movie which doesn't appear on tv offen..at least here in the UK...This track suits the intense power of a Black Hole..Because not even light can escape!....oh!..BTW ..there is a MV to this track...a double with Manners.....(if it's still available)
Thanks for the react David . what is faster the wings of a hummingbird or Akanes double kick answer akanes double kick. Akane and Haruna are friends and they hang out with one another
Yeah, they did Akane dirty in the live version. Terrible editing and not prominent enough in the mix. Akane should have been the star of that one, but was basically ignored.
Black Hole is one of those songs you have to listen to a dozen times to catch every nuance. There's so many layers, each doing something different, all at blazing speed, and it somehow melds together into absolute greatness.
And not only does the studio version already knock you out of your seat and make your ears flap, but at their online concert last May, the ladies unpacked the song as the second to last of the 2 hour performance on the set list. According to their own statement, they were unsure and nervous of performing the song live, but if you ask me they've put on a clinic. The whole show was already a fireworks display, and this song the grand finale, at which everything that can be ignited was blown up. I would never have thought that they could deliver this song so well live, but they did. And even while doing so, Akane was grinning and smiling up to her ears, so that no judge in this world would accuse her the 'gentle stroking' of her drum kit as a crime. :) _____________________ 【 _Our rock never dies ever. 220 BPM...which coincidentally matches my heartbeat when I listen to this. The live version on their YT channel is worth seeing, though you'll have to do a double reaction as they paired it with 'Manners' live too...we won't complain if you do both!

Excellent to see that you have got there names down perfect. I wasn't expecting another BAND-MAID from you so soon. Awesome that you did..Also they have there song Catharsis from the acoustic Christmas show up temporarily. I hope you get to see it before they remove it. Soooooooo Worth it.
I went around to Mr Heretics house & kept shouting their names thru the letter box until he said "Ok i got them now, please go away". He didn't use those exact words but you get the idea.😏
Never thought I would ever love a song like this. But here I am loving it. All their music just wraps around my soul and gives a little tug because BAND-MAID is Awesome. Peace.
Both versions have their good points, though I'm sure the live version is more popular. Stalrunner is right though, the mix is different. I'm also ok with this reaction being about the studio version.
this ladies drag you into tha black hole,.. you never expect what they can do.... such a phenomenal talent they can do... try to react sense you well blow your mind too or even hibana..
Here's a link to the live version from BAND-MAID's channel -- czcams.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/video.html You might have been confused because it was paired with another song, 'Manners'. You can check it out on your own time if ya feel like it. It's an interesting paring of songs. A fun juxtaposition styles.
Now watch their Catharsis Acoustic Live to see this song's polar opposite... The range on this band is mind blowing. Also Akane is down right my favorite Drummer, she is more versatile than most of the drummers I've seen, she can slow it down to service a really melodic song, or bring the pain on songs like this.
You can find this live under Manners, Black Hole official live video. It's actually a live double feature. Yes, they play it that fast live. It's pretty incredible. Manners is a groove rocker. Look it up and watch even if you don't review it. They're crossing into abstraction.
A shame that out of the people who requested it did not mention that the version available on CZcams is a follow on song from Manners. Here is the link: czcams.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/video.html&ab_channel=BAND-MAID Go to 4:24, for the start of Black Hole. The link is from a 'live' stream they did. I would really appreciate your view as to weather it is live? I have had some arguments on a Facebook page as I am not convinced it is live. With your musical experience and eye for looking at the amp set ups etc, you will know. I can tell there is backing used but it sounds like studio audio or certainly post produced. You need to add in Murata Tamu, the drummer from Nemophila to the list of excellent female drummers. She is one of Japans most respected drummers and has played in other bands, has jazz experience and released solo material. 8.7 another great score for Band Maid.
Want to see this group's versatility, react to "Catharsis", the acoustic version from a Christmas video livestream release. They also recorded the song on the Conqueror album. This group is so talented and versatile.
Watch them play this song live, more bass sound from Misa...All Japanese female drummers are KILLERS.....HARUNA, AKANE, TAMU(Nemophila), JUNNA(X KAKUMIE/TRIDENT JAPAN), SAE(Hanabie), YOYOKA.... 😀
If you want more Misa listen to No God. She really powers through that one. Hey, thanks for doing this one. The Topographic thing is actually a Yes reference, I'm really a 70 year old progger who was drawn back into rock by Band Maid.
MISA MISA MISA! the only thing I'm going to disagree on is I personally think this (especially the live) is Sai-chan on her game plenty of inflection and emotion in such a fast paced delivery
It's amazing David said he couldn't find a live version cos when i type in B-M "Black Hole" live it immediately comes up with their official channel paired with "Manners".🤷♂️
Listening to this reminds me of how damn good the live version is. It’s literally SO MUCH better! The live version would get a higher score, I’d bet, but 8.7 is good.
For me personally, I am in total awe of Band-Maid's ever increasing show of musical genius and out of this world professional skill, but having said that, it's veering off into stuff I'm not nearly enjoying listening to as their earlier efforts. Again, just my personal listening happy place, as I prefer simpler hard rock versus progressive/rock/metal/berzerker. I own all of their CD's and DVD/BluRays of course, and watch all streamed concerts. I will buy anything they ever produce, but like the older stuff better.
On the live version of BLACK HOLE you can hear the bass better, but the drums lose a little of their punch compared to the studio version. The best part is that it is paired with Manners where MISA puts on a bass masterclass.
David, great reaction. Try to listen Black Hole live because you end totally shocked and thinking in call the police or the army. A brutality and Akane smiling the whole time. They are on the edge of the cliff during the whole performance without doing a single mistake and sounding more powerfull than the studio version and, of course, Misa punching the base like an excited maniac and sounding stronger. And yes, 220 or 230 bpm. Rocket Speed Rock...
I'd love to hear what Kanami, Miku and MISA are playing, but I can't, only bits and pieces. All my attention not on the vocals is taken away by Akane. Oh well, I can live with that.
Listening to Black Hole is like running down a hill and you're losing control and can't stop. Just look for a place to lay it down and hope you don't break anything. MAIDs ROCK!
WARNING! It's bad MANNERS to not watch the LIVE versions because you'll feel starved for visual joy and fall into a BLACK HOLE of emptiness... probably! 😵 Thx, David!

@@GaryHolloway-810 ....wait....that was YOU?!?!?!?!?!?!?
@@THEDavidHeretic HAHA. Yep sorry about that David but at least my method worked. That's a good thing, right?😏
the live version is even better!
Never thought I would ever love a song like this. But here I am loving it. All their music just wraps around my soul and gives a little tug because BAND-MAID is Awesome. Peace.
I wish you had watched the Live version instead. It's SOOOOOO much better! Great reaction, though!
Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of the mix on the live version. It's great to watch, but the lead guitar and kick drum are too low.
@@Metal_Auditor Yeah...I agree...although the vocals really shine on the live.
Both versions have their good points, though I'm sure the live version is more popular. Stalrunner is right though, the mix is different. I'm also ok with this reaction being about the studio version.
BPMs = Mach Chicken
The truth is Band-Maid can play anything they want...And do it great!
this ladies drag you into tha black hole,.. you never expect what they can do.... such a phenomenal talent they can do... try to react sense you well blow your mind too or even hibana..
Congrats on the shout out Ideal Do.👍
Here's a link to the live version from BAND-MAID's channel -- czcams.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/video.html
You might have been confused because it was paired with another song, 'Manners'. You can check it out on your own time if ya feel like it.
It's an interesting paring of songs. A fun juxtaposition styles.
Great review; wait til you get to "I Still Seek Revenge"...
Cem Adrian - Kül (Seyirci Videosu ❤ Moi Sahne) Reaction pls
Want to see this group's versatility, react to "Catharsis", the acoustic version from a Christmas video livestream release. They also recorded the song on the Conqueror album. This group is so talented and versatile.
Watch them play this song live, more bass sound from Misa...All Japanese female drummers are KILLERS.....HARUNA, AKANE, TAMU(Nemophila), JUNNA(X KAKUMIE/TRIDENT JAPAN), SAE(Hanabie), YOYOKA.... 😀
I really hope you record a reaction to the live version still 😊. Totally understand why you had issues finding it though. Great job 🤘🏼🤘🏼.
If you want see something very special from Band-Maid, try "Catharsis" acoustic from the Christmas show.
from Black Hole to Catharsis... small GAP lol... only Band Maid
If you want more Misa listen to No God. She really powers through that one. Hey, thanks for doing this one. The Topographic thing is actually a Yes reference, I'm really a 70 year old progger who was drawn back into rock by Band Maid.
I like band-maid but I am so excited for some of the upcoming Japanese bands you haven’t posted yet
@@GaryHolloway-810 I filmed this 6 weeks ago, the video you found may have been posted up after I filmed.
@@THEDavidHeretic Oh i get it, the old "6 weeks ago" excuse again.😆
The girls made your face turned red 😂
The combined official live video (Manners+Black Hole) is here czcams.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/video.html
Black Hole starts at 4mn24s.
It's always safe to say Kanami on studio recordings as Miku often has to be trained up by Kanami to play her part live.
Should have done the Manners and Black Hole live double
Miku's playing the main starting riff. Catch it live at their official YT channel.
MAIDs ROCK!
Yeah but the Maids see an opportunity for an amaaaazing unexpected somersault or three with all that momentum.
@@stevehall5128 They may pull that off. Me? I pull a hammy, rupture my Achilles, bonk my noggin' and crawl back to the top so I can do it all again.
WARNING! It's bad MANNERS to not watch the LIVE versions because you'll feel starved for visual joy and fall into a BLACK HOLE of emptiness... probably! 😵 Thx, David!
