- In this video, I'll be reacting to another new band to the channel called BAND-MAID! I've seen this band's name in the comment section of a couple videos, so I knew I had to check them out! The thing that drew me in was the bassist, but everyone else made me stay! If you haven't seen them yet, you need to see this video!

Kanami (lead guitar) is just a genius songsmith. Add to that Miku's poetic lyrics and backing vocals, Saiki's hypnotizing voice, Misa's intricate bass lines and Akane's imaginative drum patterns, it's all GOLD. Looking forward to more reactions! Po!

This video shows their breadth of ability. They can go from a funky-bluesy rock song right into a progressive metal song and still sound like Band-Maid. Since yo are anime fan, checkout Sense (Opening song to Platinum End), Different (opening to Log Horizon Season 3).
Yup, they are team players and all standouts in their own way! With that and the way they write and arrange, they probably provide more things to appreciate per minute than any other band out there. This is from one of the online shows without an audience they did because of COVID; just wait til you see how much the energy ramps up when they're playing in front of a crowd. Good way to start, as this two-fer shows you the kind of range they have (they did a fourteen-song online acoustic concert a few weeks ago that was mesmerizing). EDIT: Oh yeah, ALL their songs are good, no filler.
You nailed it on the head, a band of five incredibly talented young women. For me, the best rock band in the world.
If you want more bass driven songs, listen to "Play live", "no God live", "Dice MV" and, as a must see, "Domination live".

If Black Hole is your kind of tune, you're going to love their latest album. Everything they do is awesome though, and you still haven't seen them in front of a real crowd, which is where they thrive. I'd recommend Domination Live version at this point.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. Please check “Different” “Blooming” and “Warning” by BAND-MAID. These MVs are all on their official CZcams. This band is phenomenal.
These two songs are just a couple of snowflakes in the blizzard of awesomeness that is the Band Maid catalog. These ladies are not just the best band in the world today, but the best to come along in decades! For some seriously killer bass I would suggest "I still seek revenge". Welcome aboard!! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

They literally have a hundred or so songs ranging from really good to spectacular, all depending on your personnel taste. They cross genres a lot, even within the same song. Masterful writers, players, singers and arrangers. They are pro's pro's.
Band Maid is the greatest rock/hard rock band in the world. Next level talent. Master class. These girls are aliens.
I recommend Blooming for your next BM song. Or any of their other 100+ songs. Its been two years for me and my respect and admiration for this band has continually risen.
I enjoyed your reaction, it is what us Maidiacs love to see, someone new getting into the band. This band is awesome and have many many excellent songs. They play hard rock but are really their own genre. I am sure you will enjoy the ride. All of their songs are great but I would recommend 'Real Existence 'LIve' version, or MV's of 'Blooming' or 'Warning' or 'Glory' as they are all great.
Nice reaction. Because you like Anime...a couple of their recent songs were written for anime. Sense and Different. Different has a live and a MV but the MV has a much better mix.

Great reaction Bandit. As we like to say "You ain't seen nothin' yet". THEE best rhythm section in ROCK. MISA is the "barefoot assassin" as she plays in her bare feet and kills it with her lead bass. They've done several songs for anime. Currently is SENSE for Platinum End. DIFFERENT is for Log Horizon s3. Check these out for a bit more MISA: ONSET-LIVE is an instrumental to top all instrumentals. PLAY-LIVE another great intro. NO GOD-LIVE is MISA's favorite song off their current album. Also check out the MV DICE for another cool drum/bass intro. You will quickly discover that BAND-MAID is Awesome. Peace.

There are almost 200 comments as I write this, so it has probably already been mentioned, but Band-Maid does have 2 recent anime OP songs: "Different" for Log Horizon S3 and "Sense" for Platinum End. They are both high-energy "edge-of-chaos" type tracks, too, so you should like them!
Had to laugh when you were talking about the anime sound and said, "This is no different." Band-Maid actually has a song called Different, and it IS the opening theme for Log Horizon Season 3.
Wally, here's here's the deal with this band. Basically, you need five brains to be able to take in all the incredible talent. They are ALL unbelievable! You are gonna have soooo much fun! The range of these woman is well represented here, but, believe it or not, they have even MORE tricks up their sleeves (as I type this, I keep thinking of all the genres they encompass and I'm sure I'm missing several.) For a similar one-two punch, the live video for "Dice" and "Different" is incredible ("Different" being the OP for an anime). For something that's just pure joy, try "Real Existence" - Live. For something jazzy, try "Wonderland" - Live, or for an instrumental, try "Onset" - Live. Or...pick anything else by Band-Maid. You will be similarly and happily blown away! Thanks much, Wally. Misa has bass solos in Play (live) and Onset (live) and Dice (MV) and a bunch of other songs. I am a huge The Warning fan but Band Maid is different as a five piece band. They are more Hard Rock/Metal than The Warning. Band Maid is awesome.
Also their lead guitar player, Kanami, does face melting solos in most of their songs. She is the Japanese Eddie Van Halen. If you want to melt your face check out Real Existence live or MV
Probably one of her sweetest solos was in a mello song. Wonderland.

See them in front of a big crowd. Domination live 2020 with jamming added in the middle, plus Freedom live with Akane's drum solo. These girls are the best hard rock band on the planet, hands down.

Great reaction and breakdown, with an excuse to listen to the LOD Manners and Black Hole video again. You have won 17 points. They aren't worth anything and you can't use them anywhere, but congratulations because that's a lot of points! One of my favorites is "Play" live, but you won't be lacking for recommendations. In general I'd say go with a live that has an audience so you can see how our Maids handle interaction and crowd control.
I see Black Hole working in Kill La Kill , or Youjo Senki . Then again Band - Maids sound fits anywhere in my life ..

Imho, the best hard rock band around and probably for the last 30-40 years or so. :) Moratorium and/or Domination (both live) are my suggestions for the next reaction.
THE best Rock band on Earth. Which covers everything, I think. OK, a bit more info...Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April 2020. "Domination" live would be a choice for your next one. This "live" online thing is great, but with a live in-person crowd, the energy is on a totally different level of fun.

Great reaction, new sub based on your breakdown of what you heard and your thoughts on it. As you mentioned, they have a great bassists and she is one of five inseparable parts of this whole. There is no ego in this band, they've been friends and playing together for 8 years and for the most part all collaborate on all songs. The lead guitar, Kanami, writes all the songs and passes them to the others, they then refine and add/subtract and discuss how each song will fit and sound. Everyone is equal. The lyrics are written by the rhythm/second vocalist, Miku (red flower, small pigeon) and arranged with the primary vocalist, Saiki (blue flower), who has the final say on all songs.
I agree 100%.
Just want to mention that Saiki has both impeccable taste and a blunt honesty that is not the habit of most Japanese. She says it's good, it is good to go. If she says it sucks, it does. (She also would be the one who has to sing it, so she has to be able to get behind it emotionally.)
So they very much trust her judgment.
MISA and Akane are the best rhythm section in rock music.

Kanami knows this, she probably only has like 5 super long, shred solos in their whole almost 100 song discography.
Some of my personal favorite solos are Puzzle, Anemone and Catharsis, all of which are shorter and absolutely perfect for the songs.
IMHO The Warning and Band-Maid are the best bands on the planet right now.
Thanks, Wally! I can tell you're going to love Band-Maid. The awesome thing about their music, besides the consummate musicianship, is that the songwriting is mind-bogglingly great and consistent over 100+ songs. They are catchy and full of hooks, but complex and unpredictable, all at the same time. Band-Maid gets lots of commissions for anime, j-drama, movies, gaming, but they never compromise their sound. If you like things on the more fast-paced end of things, I'd recommend Warning (MV), Sense, Domination (MV), Blooming, or Rinne. But I'd also encourage you to listen to ballads like Daydreaming or Anemone (audio only). Also, check out their alter-ego "BAND-MAIKO" and the song Gion-Cho. All of it is on their official channel, and the label is fine with reaction-style re-use.

Yeah man they can really play preciously amongst each other like its nothing, one just stops their really cool part perfectly intime to let the next bandmate do something else equally cool and perfectly timed.

The Bass Player MISA plays with a pick and slaps in the same song and changes from one to the other very quickly!
From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right?
(Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick.
(Chris): Show me how.
(Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm.
(Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how)
(Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever.

PS - Re your comments about loving Anime. Band-Maid have two songs that were written as the opening score for 2 anime's. 'Different' was used as the opening theme song for the third season of the anime Log Horizon ( czcams.com/video/edlLhh8qVxM/video.html ) and 'Sense', which was used for the anime Platinum Horizon ( czcams.com/video/BWN6iOFjm9U/video.html ). They also appeared in the Netflix film, 'Kate', playing live on stage in a nightclub scene and playing over a car sound system during a high speed car chase. Subscribed because you clearly appreciate the musicianship, vocal skills, songwriting (music by Kanami, the lead guitarist, lyrics by Miku, the unfeasibly beautiful rhythm guitarist and band founder) and stage presence of what can only be described as THE best Rock band in existence. Jimmy Page was so impressed with Akane's drumming that he went backstage and asked for a selfie!
I had to laugh a bit when you already said after Manners that it was a bit chaotic. :) This song combo is perhaps the perfect showcase for the versatility of these ladies. And you' re right, each one of these ladies has enough talent to stand alone in the spotlight. But you won't find anything like ego here. These ladies perform as a cohesive unit and each gets the opportunity to shine. Sometimes even all of them during a single song.
Normally I would recommend songs like 'Domination', 'Onset' or 'Play', but since you brought up the topic of anime I'll just bring in their last MV 'Sense', which was the opening to the anime 'Platinum End'. I think you'll like the song.

Loved the reaction. Always get a kick seeing an new Maidiac being born. And yes they are the best of the best. They always impress no matter what song, or what style rock they play. Five musical geniuses brought together by fate. Interestingly they almost didn't happen except for a little song called "Thrill", Their first music video. You should check out either the music vid or the live vid from the same online concert as these songs. Keep up the Maid.
Band Maid in the last year has composed and performed the opening songs for two anime series, Different for the anime series Log Horizon and recently Sense for the series Platinum End. Sense is really their most recent offering.

Some folks say that Misa doesn't play Bass, she plays LEAD Bass. They kind of have a point. Watch her left hand. Up and down the neck all song long. Her basslines just GROOVE.
The one thing that absolutely puts BAND-MAID head and shoulders above most bands is composition. The music is written to take advantage of their incredible individual talent in order to create something larger than the sum of their parts.
All five are top-notch musicians, but it was that awesome bass that first drew me in. As with you, it didn’t take me long (less than the length of one song) to realize they are ALL just incredibly talented.
Go watch the Music Video for it. They are the same. They have songs in animes. Check out the closing theme for Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS 'Glory'.

I am a huge fan of Band-Maid since I discovered them almost two years ago. I love the song Manners - in my personal top 10 songs of 2021 (the album Unseen World is also in my personal top 10 albums of 2021). At my age, I am not one for fan boy hyperbole, but I genuinely think Kanami is a songwriting genius. Manners and Black Hole perfectly illustrate her diversity and experimentation. Through her songwriting, she pushed and challenged Misa and Akane Hirose to become the great musicians you saw in this video. Kanami's songs ain't easy. She also taught Miku Kobato to play guitar from scratch. I hope she is appreciated in Japan as much as she should be appreciated worldwide. Same goes for the band.
Welcome to The Maidiacs, Wally! I had to laugh when you mentioned the word"chaotic" before Black Hole even started. Believe it or not, there's plenty more musical greatness where that came from. Anytime you hear Kanami do her lead guitar solo listen closely you'll hear MISA doing her impromptu bass solo at the same time. Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!

You're spot on about the anime feel of Black Hole. They are anime fans and have done several theme songs for anime.
Their versatility is seemingly limitless. Their acoustic performance as a Christmas gift of sorts (a paid livestream) was beautiful and required rearranging the songs. I believe Catharsis from that is still posted on their channel, don't know for how long. Great performance.

Best Rock band in the World right now. They will be touring the US this year, cities and dates TBD. So start your dollar jar. Kanami (lead) writes the music and Miku (rhythm) writes the lyrics. Miku also is the band founder. MISA (bass) and Akane (drums) create their lines from the basic music send to them (internet). Then they finalize the song in the studio. Siaki (vocals) has begun writing lyrics and she has the "We're Done" call. All are Talented, masters of their instruments and highly professional.

BAND MAID is celebrating its 9th year of formation. BAND was formed by a girl who came to Tokyo from a local city of Japan to become a singer when she was about 19 years old. This is an interesting first take for you with Band Maid since first, this is amongst the latest material so you have a wealth of back catalogue to go through (yay!), and secondly I think with these two songs in particular you really got dropped into the middle of the extreme facets of the band - calm and chaotic.. acoustic/rock/prog rock is their basic canvas. Where Lovebites tend towards speed/death/thrash/power metal, the two bands don't really cross over but they compliment one another as similar quantities of the Japanese metal scene, if that makes any sense.. it's like they have a balance in a typical music aficionado's collection, neither taking away from or competing with the other, which I LOVE.
They do have a couple songs made for anime; Glory (Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS), Different (Log Horizon season 3), and most recently Sense (Platinum End). I recommend those plus all of their 100+ catalog. The best hard rock/metal/pop rock band today.

Oops! Now you done did it. You went and listened to not one, but two songs from BAND-MAID. Now you have to listen to the other 120 songs they've done. Sorry, but them's the rules.
Yes, they are all amazing and write amazing songs :) The bassist and drummer especially are considered amongst the best of earth by MANY people. And musicians and old rockers tend to love band maid- they go way beyond what they need to in songs with adding interest with extra little complexities from ALL of them.
Misa on bass is often basically doing more or less a bass solo through whole songs lol- Akana on the drums is ALWAYS throwing in new fills and changing things up- the band almost never repeat anything without changing stuff. The lead guitarist is also unique and fantastic- never goes nuts but has great solos that fit the songs- and she writes most of the music btw.. I could go on for ever lol.
P.s They actually have I think its 3 songs? that are anime OP :) But I forget which except for the newest one- sense, which is from the anime platinum end i think. (Be aware if you react to that one its fairly hard to not get it took down- pause to talk like every 30 sec!)
I hope you do more band maid reactions they have 120 or so songs ALL great to fantastic :) Mostly you want to do the official lives- but you will be recommended the MVs for some too.
I will recommend a few- warning and blooming MVs - and freedom to see them all have fun on stage - and no god live for more amazing bass work.
With a couple of exceptions, the studio versions are really good, the live versions are EXCELLENT! With a few exceptions.

Sense and Different ARE songs created for two different Japanese anime shows. You might get a kick out of those. If you really want to hear some bass watch No God from this online concert. Jimmy Page had to meet Akane, the drummer, when they were in England.

"Black Hole" has a super fun structure. It starts with what appears to be complete chaos which gets more and more ordered the nearer to the chorus we get, at which point every member of the band is in sync and playing "the same song" (I mean.. they did the whole time, but I don't know how to express it better right now), then everything breaks down into chaos again and the cycle start anew, ending in the "again sync'ed) super fast paced last section (with Kanami playing the same riff up and down ... basically in a circular manner). It's a sonic picture of a Black Hole :)
"Manners" is just a great autobiographical song ;)

Band-Maid takes quite a few listenings to figure out all that is going on, the drums and bass are in your face, but the guitars and vocals are amazing as well :-) You mentioned Manners to be chaotic, Black Hole is controlled chaos and what I call Proggy Speed Metal at 220 BPM

I think "Blooming" and "Hibana" will fit very well as anime op songs. They actually have three songs for TV anime as others commented.
If you like chaotic fast-tempo songs, I suggest you "Different"(MV) and "No God"(live).
You'll also like their mid-tempo song "About Us"(live) for groovy bass sounds.
