Featuring stop-motion animation and live action, this inventive adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's tale follows the adventures of James (Paul Terry), an orphaned young British boy. Forced to live with his cruel aunts (Joanna Lumley, Miriam Margolyes), James finds a way out of his bleak existence when he discovers an enormous enchanted peach. After rolling into the sea inside the buoyant fruit, James, accompanied by a crew of friendly talking insects, sets sail for New York City.

It comes to you Tim's if you order it by Cody😁😁😁🎤🎤🎤🤩🤩🤩💰💰💰
React to The Haunted Mansion movie next
Wait do rhinos eat people?
@@Lucashoshino nah bro they're herbivores
And also are you and Cody are gonna watch the box trolls
30:45 James : No ! It's impossible ! How did you get through the ocean ?
Spiker : How did we, Sponge ?
Sponge : Well, ya got me. By all accounts, it doesn't make sense.
I see what you did there!
Spiker: Oh, well. Back to business!
Roald Dahl is the definition of ‘Get you a guy who can do both’. He wrote some wholesome stories (albeit with dark elements) and some really darkly comic stories.
P.S. Did you know he briefly collaborated with Cadbury as a taster while in school?
That's where part of his inspiration for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory came from
Yeah, he wrote about it in Boy too.
It was Dahl’s experience as both children’s author, and mystery writer/007-scriptwriter that got him the “Guy who can do both” job writing the screenplay for “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”. (And essentially turning it into a kiddy-Bond film.)
Tim Burton and Roald Dahl are a match made in heaven. Both of them have the ability to jump between way too dark for kids, and unbelievably wholesome in a heartbeat.
Tim Burton was a big fan of Roald Dahl, saying he liked how Dahl never talked down to children while keeping things relatively child friendly.
Don't forget that Henry Selick was also the director of this film and played a Part with this movie so it isn't just Tim Burton, even Henry was also a Roald Dahl fan.
How about Tim Burton and Rumiko Takahashi?😏
Have you forgotten about Henry Selick? The DIRECTOR of the movie? Also Burton's Wonka isn't that great.
Except Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That one was awful
Spiker and Sponge scared the crap out of me as a kid. They make the orcs from Lord of the Rings look nice by comparison.
The funny thing is that, 24 years later, when I was working at a supermarket in south west London, I had one of those aunts as one of my best customers.
I recently rewatched this movie, myself. I have a theory regarding the rhino that James was afraid of all this time.
In a novelization of the movie that I remember reading, the mentioning of the rhino killing James’s parents was immediately followed by this very telling line:
“…at least, that’s what his Aunts told him.”
That, in combination with James’s declaration that the rhino is “just a lot of smoke and noise” leads me to believe that the rhino is nothing more than a manifestation of James’s fears, inspired by a lie his aunts told him to keep him too scared to try leaving them.
🤔
In truth, James’s parents probably died in an accident, or maybe the aunts killed them!
Their car kinda looks a rhino especially with that hood ornament in front looking like a horn.
You might have something there.
Ask a kid I always thought "wow that random magic guy who helps James is so nice" as an adult I get "wouldst thou like to live deliciously?" vibes from him.
Dang, when you put it like that...
Until now, I've only ever read the book. I remember really liking it.
I’m more of the other way around I only saw the movie and never read the book.
I’ve never read the book
@@jackmarshall3255 same
Watched the movie first, and was confused by the rhino in the clouds. Made sense cuz of the books.
For those who don't know, it was written by Roald Dahl, the same person who wrote _BFG, Matilda,_ and _Charlie and the Chocolate Factory._
Just like “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” “James and the Giant Peach” is my favorite childhood memories. I gave five peaches ratings 🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑
It really surprises me that Mr. Centipede is voiced by Richard Dreyfuss. The actor who is famously known for Matt Hooper from Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975).
That's funny that Cody says that the movie reminded him of Harry Potter, because Aunt Sponge is Professor Sprout and the Earthworm is Professor Lupin!
Loved both of you guy's reactions though!
The Lady Who Plays Aunt Sponge Also Voices The Glowworm In The Movie
Thanks, Timothée! Thanks, Cody! 🍑 A friend from my college days said, "We have to go see JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH!" I was like, "Never heard of that." He replied, "It was written by Roald Dahl." I was like, "Am I supposed to know that name?" He said, "Roald Dahl wrote CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY!!!" Then I finally understood! Plus, it co-starred the fabulous Joanna Lumley and incomparable Miriam Margolyes. #TimotheeReacts #HenrySelick #JamesAndTheGiantPeach
You're so not going to believe this, but a couple of years ago, when I was working at a supermarket in south west London, I had Joanna Lumley as one of my best customers and a really wonderful friend.
Also, I had this movie on VHS during the first 10 years of my life. I lost almost all of my videos, this one included, when my parents closed down the snooker club they used to own.
While I found the skeleton pirates very imaginative (I saw this before Nightmare Before Christmas, so I had no idea the captain was played by Jack Skellington) I wish the Cloud Men from the book were in it. They throw hailstones at the peach and then trap it with a rainbow. They even pour rainbow paint on centipede which hardens like cement; they all manage to escape after a cloud rains on them which washes away the rainbow.
I think this story was the most random of Royal Dahl's books. I was like, why a rhino? Where'd it come from? How was that shark made? All things I was puzzling over when I was young 🤣 I still enjoyed the film as it was though ❤️
This is one of my favorite Stop-Motion films and also the most frightening Stop-Motion film I watched when I watched this as a kid. Interestingly, this film was my first stop motion film I watched, prior before watching _"The Nightmare Before Christmas"_ and the funny thing is at the time when I first watched this film It didn't occurred to me that the Pirate Captain that kidnapped Mr. Centipede was Jack Skellington, so when I re-watched the film for the second time years after seeing _The Nightmare Before Christmas_ and I said to myself, _"Hey that Pirate Captain looks like Jack Skellington._ Even Jack Skellington wasn't the only Disney cameo, cause Donald Duck himself also appears in this film as a Skeleton Pirate.
On top of that, it didn't occurred to me that the voice of the Earthworm was David Thewlis better known as Professor Lupin in the _Harry Potter_ movies andSir Patrick Morgan / Ares in _Wonder Woman_
Finally, this film was my introduction to Roald Dahl, however when I was a Kid when I first watched _James and the Giant Peach_ I wasn't to familiar with Roald Dahl nor did I realize that this along with the film adaptations of _Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches_ from 1990 (starring Angelica Huston) and _Matilda_ were also books and also by the author, Roald Dahl. So it wasn't until the 3rd/4th grade during Elementary School years later when our class read The BFG and James and the Giant Peach where I became familiar with Roald Dahl as an author and that both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James And the Giant Peach, The BFG, The Witches, The Twits, Fantastic Mr. Fox and his various children's books he's written were done by the same person.
Thanks for the reaction TimotheeReacts.🍑🦗🕷🐞🪱🐛
WW and the Chocolate Factory was an adaptation of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. The title was changed to sell Wonka brand candy at the time.
@@strawberrysoulforever8336 I know that, but as I said if you looked at my paragraph, I wasn't aware that both Janes and the Giant Peach, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (based on the book Charlie & the Chocolate Factory), and Matilda and The Witches from 1990, were based on books and by the same author Roald Dahl and I didn't became familiar with the author until I was in the 3rd Grade/4th Grade during Elementary School.
This movie is a great staple in my childhood. It baffles me that it wasn’t a box office success. Seeing my two favorites cross over for this reaction sure made my Tuesday!
I absolutely love the James and the Giant Peach so much as it's a very nice heartwarming story and has great animation for the characters! Also that rhino scene is so intense and loved the thrill as kid and still do to this day!
Amazing reaction to you Timothee and Cody!
Watching this now, I think the Rhino in the clouds is a simile for a severe storm. I saw the movie first, but I did a book report in 5th grade, just to say I love this movie, lol. Thanks for the commentary, guys!
Roald Dahl was my favourite author as a child and finding out his books are being turned into movies is such a delight! Also Roald often wrote cheeky songs for his books, that's why it's a musical😂
I remember getting absolutely terrified of this movie as a kid mostly because of the rhino, most of the action and most of the dialogue but knowing the rest as an adult makes it that much more messed up,although I gotta admit the animation is pretty damn good for its time 🤔🙂
If I had to describe this movie in one word, it would be...charming. It has a great cast of characters with lots of personality and charisma, the visual style is very unique and its a classic movie from a classic book. I adore it!
The worm thing is a myth. They absolutely do die if you cut them in half.
I watched this movie as a kid but I never read the book. Apparently the death of James’ parents was way more darker and brutal in the book than in the movie.
14:46 Yes they do! That's a complete myth that cutting a worm in half will make two worms grow.
Ironically, I think aunt sponge and aunt Spiker are my favorite villains in terms of evilness. And these two actresses played them so dang perfectly.
Also, I noticed that a lot of reactors are still very confused on the rhino aspect. It wasn’t even explain side the book, but honestly, the truth is that both of the aunties killed the parents, and used James as their own slave, and then told a made up story so he would forever be feared. Which is why it’s so outrageous that an animal that is a vegetarian who can’t fly, ate his parents.
Always love a good Tim and Cody reaction, you both keep up the good work! 👍
Thanks appreciated!
The first meeting with the bugs was a lot better in the book. A few of them mention how they were waiting for James to show up, then they all started talking about how hungry they were for no apparent reason, until they realized James thought they meant they were going to eat him and they all laughed and explained that they saw him as one of the group.
Also, the ending where the narrator says that the movie was granting James' wish to share his story. In the book, James wrote it all down and you'd just finished reading what he wrote. Roald Dahl reused this ending again in The BFG. He wanted to write a book after he learned to speak and write in perfect grammar (for those of you who haven't read it, he had a lot of trouble with speaking correctly, but he'd taught himself to read and write), but he was too modest to put his real name on it, and you've just finished reading it.
The reason it reminds you a little of Willy Wonka is because the stories were both written by Roald Dahl 😊
In the book I believe it was simply a rhino that had escaped from the zoo which ran his parents down one day 🤔 someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Yes you were correct, in the original book it was an actual Rhino that escaped from the Zoo and killed James Parents, while in the film it was a large monstrous black cloud in the form of a Rhino that ate James Parents.
4:14 A rhinoceros broke out of the zoo and killed them.
The "gobbled up" line is quite literal. It ate them.
For anyone wondering when the movie was set, it was the 1940's.
the rhino and the shark are still absolutely terrifying
This is a movie I haven’t seen in years. I watched it a million times on VHS as a kid still so amazing.
The rhinoceros thing i think symbolises the war in that time. I once saw a play called Jurassica in Melbourne and their was a character who was an old Italian grandfather and he would tell his grandson a story about hearing what he thought were dinosaurs stomping past his window one night. He was only a little kid when this happened and throughout the play they kept referring to that dream (and sometimes Jurassic Park) and afterwards when we studied the play for drama class, we realised that he was really talking about the night his country was invaded in WWII; the stomping was the German army but he started referring to the sound as dinosaurs. So the rhinoceros was probably a similar metaphor, or perhaps a storm that killed them in which the thunder sounded like a rhinoceros. 'Cause after all, rhinos are vegetarian, how could they eat his parents???
Plus i think the whole film is James' representation of finally getting away from his aunts. You notice that when he draws the picture in the attic, he draws the waves really slopey and that's what the waves look like when they're in the ocean. And the shark could symbolise the aunts chasing after him via a boat or something. Lots of ways to look at this film
20:55 cody and tim we need a song with peach
Me: bowser had sung one
The rhino is symbolism of loneliness or sadness and death for James..I just looked it up..and I’m shocked
Then how'd the rhino get his parents?
@@stephanniemorinin the book a rhino escaped from the zoo and ATE his parents
Can you call Henry Selick some sort of Tim Burton follower in stop-motion animation? In the sense that he adopted the grotesque, but at the same time he has more fairy-tale plots instead of stories about outcasts.
Selick's the main reason why Burton is known for stop motion because of Nightmare Before Christmas, of which Selick actively directed.
This is one of my FAVORITE films growing up
You guys should probably watch Beauty And the Beast (1991) together, in honor of Mrs.Potts’ voice actress. She passed away this year. Unless you guys have already seen it.
2 my favourite CZcams reactors in 1 video awesome 👌
I grew up watching this movie absolutely one of my faves so glad you’re reacting to it 😩❤️
could not click this video fast enough. still in my top five all time favorite movies.
The part where his head gets bigger after he climbs in the peach is kinda creepy to me. Anyway, it took a while but we finally got our most pleasant reactor duo back!😁
In the book the Rhino was a ordinary rhino from the zoo that got loose and attacked James’ parents at the grocery store.
Bet you didn't know that Richard Dreyfuss was the voice of Mr centipede in this film.
"I just wanna like, take him to McDonalds." oF ALL THE THINGS I THOUGHT HE WAS GONNA SAY XD THAT WAS NOT ON MY BINGO CARD XD
This reaction is amazing, James and Giant Peach had to be the greatest movies of all time used to watched this when I was 6 this movie is funny and cute I feel so happy when you’re finally reacting to this. Thank you Tim 😊
Am I the only one who has a "your browser can't play this video"? on this single video alone but all other videos are fine?
I messaged youtube. I dont know why this is happening
However my theory on the rhino in the movie adaptation is maybe the anuts are secretly witches that used dark magic to create the rhino and the robot shark possibly. The anuts could also be retired pirates thus explaining the statues on that pirate ship
Tim and Cody are so hilarious
Thanks!!
The sassy french spider had been my favorite when watch the film, cause she's both a fax and motherly figure
Awesome reaction of my favorite Disney movie!!!!😊😊😊😊
In disney movies it's very sad and heartbreaking that characters lose one of their parents in every single movie. And I love this movie it is very cute and classic.
4:14-18 SAME HERE 😂
7:57 HERES SPONGEY 😂 18:08 25:48 28:41-3
Who even built that metal shark
19:28➡️19:33-4
31:32 the officers should have detained the crazy aunts
Imagine if they planted the big seed and grew into giant tree and turn it into tree house
This was my favourite movie when I was a kid! I love it when you two do a movie with each other! lol. Can't will the next one!
Nostalgia this movie brings
Funfact Before Pete Postlethwaite Voices Roland Tembo In

yesss these two im excited
TimotheeReacts, maybe you and CodyReacts can react to Sharkboy and Lavagirl plus Shorts (2009).
Thank you for this! I used to watch this as a kid! Me and my late love were in a college production of this story. She was Aunt Sponge, and I was the Silkworm;he’s a character from the book. It would be cool if did a collab for The Witches (Angelica Houston), The BFG, and Matilda the musical film when it comes out.
🧑🏼🦱🍑🕷🐛🪱🦗💙💚🧡
loved this when i was kid man
CZcams won't let me watch this one. I remember renting it from the video store multiple times as a kid!
I messaged youtube. I dont know why this is happening
I remember being so scared as a child watching this! Lol I didn't speak English at the time so I'm glad to revisit it now that I'm older and can understand it.
Little context about the rhino in the beginning: It's said in the book that James' parents were killed by a carnivorous that escaped from the zoo
I first watched this movie when I rented it from Blockbuster when I was a kid. Times sure have changed, and this film is still a “peachy” treat every time I see it.
COOL JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACE (1996 ) FILM - REACTION !!!
You know... Everyone pokes fun at Disney for the tragedies that happen in them, but everyone seems to forget that most of Disney's works are based off of other stories. So the stories like Cinderella, Bambi, James and the Giant peach? They actually had deaths in them (often those stories were also more brutal than their movie counterparts)
In the book the rhino escaped from the zoo and trampled the parents, but I understand making it a supernatural type of creature for a young child.
Really love this movie since i was a kid. Glad you reacted to this, guys! ❤️
Grew up watching it and love it Also that spider is hot
It's funny that recently in the lesson we touched on the biography of Roald Dahl.
For a long time I thought this movie was just one gigantic fever dream from my earlier years. But here it is again. Bruh there is quite some imagery in this. What stayed with me from the very first watch was the prow statue of the aunts, f(*) scary 0_0 and the shark submarine. Seeing it all back with you guys unlocks surpressed memories in me and I LOVE it!!
im also pretty sure that the compass is the clock from nightmare before christmas
I think this movie and the pagemaster is the only two movies where the kid turns into a animated style and the pagemaster is had 2d animation which would make this movie extra special
Even though in novel the rhino was carnivore that escape from zoo and ate his parents and even though the aunts died in the novel version but they survived in the film adaptation
i used to watched it a lot as a child 😅
This movie is an interesting one to me; I obtained it at a Yard Sale and me and my nephew watched it together only once, and it feels like a fever dream because I remember nothing about it but the strangest stuff
Hi Tim and hi Cody I really enjoyed your guys reaction to James and the Giant Peach I remember watching this when I was a kid and thanks to you too I need to watch it again it's been a long time but I can never forget some scenes from this movie again thanks guys for the reaction to this movie.🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🎃🍭🍬🍫👻
This film is so good, it inspired me to write a book.
Omg you watched Bayformers. I feel your pain
Let's not think about 1,000 ladybug kids growing up to the size of miss ladybug and having kids of there own eventually distroying the world.
I love this movie
sponge is a wrathful abuser and spiker is an abusive disciplinarian
I know I'm late but you guys are the best!!!❤❤❤
Thanks
You just made my day the best 👌 👍
Thanks Lucas! Hope you enjoyed the vid
this movie is the reason i love eating peaches you guys are really cool dudes and friendly youtubers
3:50 “WHAT!?”
Which Roald Dahl book adaptation should we see next on this channel? Esio Trot (TV movie)? Danny Champion of the world (TV movie)? Fantastic Mr Fox? The BFG animated? The BFG live action? The Witches (90s movie)? The Witches (2020 movie)? I know Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is due in a month or so
Can you imagine a collaboration between Tim Burton and author Rumiko Takahashi
I remember this movie fondly. My mom and I enjoyed a particularly giant peach and we planted the pit growing out own peach tree, though it didn't get too big and grew a few strawberry sized peaches.
Also don't diss my fav "bug" Miss Spider, she's cool.
First! Haven't seen this movie in years, reaction is gonna be good.
Omg I remember watching this in elementary school I still love it 😂❤
I loved this movie as a kid!!
The very first Tim Burton movie I've ever seen & still love it to this day!
I almost forgot this nostalgia movies that exists!
So the rhino in the clouds, was metaphor. It was actually a rhino on the ground that escaped from the zoo
I had a feeling you would do a movie with It’sTotally Cody!
31:56 - 32:06 the hair 😂😂😂😂😂😂
James went on to own a chocolate factory....
The dynamic duo is back at it again! 😁
Planning to make another video too soon
@@TimotheeReacts Can't wait to see what it is. Gotta refuel on snacks, before I miss it. 😅🍿🥤🍫🍱🍟🍎🍌
I think that the bugs were people that got reincarnated and got more like their old selves when that magic happened
