One of the many great things about Pantera is that Dimebag and Vinnie literally learned how to play music together. Jamming together playing KISS songs and stuff with just a guitar and drums. That's one of the reasons Dime's riffs are so heavy and almost have a tribal feel to them. Add in the amazingly talented Rex Brown who brought in a strong heavy bass, and you have the crushing tone of Pantera. All that before you add in Phil's vocals. I love Pantera, even today. It's hard to believe that Dime was taken from us almost 20 years ago.

Not a big Pantera fan, but Ive been in love with this song for over 20 years now. I appreciate them so much. Master musicians. Just an incredible band. I have all their albums. Ive listened many, many times to all of them. Vulgar Display of Power is my favorite. Fucking Hostile and A New Level are untouchable.

Lex is completely right; the instruments (especially the guitar) highlights the emotion and sentiment of the song. A good guitarist can make you feel the lyrics in the back of your throat.

These guys are the definition of groove metal. Dimebag's fusion of funk and metal is just so good. There's never really been another band like them. They are so noticeably unique and distinguishable from the first notes, just like SOAD, RATM, Tool, Korn etc. Its why bands get so big and are so loved, because they bring something new to the table.

dime def gets his credit.. i would imagine yall probably HAVE heard him mentioned in those goat conversations but it probably doesn’t resonate with your memory because his name didn’t stand out to you. i would say he IS underrated by anyone that doesn’t give him that numba one spot! he is on a VERY short list of guitarist that makes a guitar make a sound that is HIS. jimi being the first other person that comes to mind along with stevie ray. the thing that sets dime apart from the other greats, in my opinion anyway, is what he does for the song as a whole and his ability to make it make sense in what is a chaotic situation. like what you said about him filling in the voids. as a group they are just cold af.
love the appreciation and love yall show them. i don’t know how someone can call themselves a music lover and not at least recognize what pantera does. it’s art. and them boys never missed.
    long live dime❤

This to me is still one of the heaviest songs ever made. That riff still feels like being hit by a train that doesn't bother to stop for even one second. I remember seeing the video for this. I was too young to stay up (though sometimes I did anyway and just plugged headphones into the tv) to watch Headbangers Ball on MTV at Midnight on Saturdays. My friends Dad knowing we wanted to watch it would record it for us each week on VHS (usually the same tape so it would get recorded over the following week) and my friend had it right on this song because he couldn't wait to show it to me. It was so new compared to most stuff at the time.

Dimebag is never and never has been underrated. He is always in the top of the guitarist polls. Dime was such a badass Eddie Van Halen himself brought one of his very famous original iconic guitars to be buried with Dime in his casket. The original black and yellow striped one pictured on the back of Van Halen II in 1979..... Eddie went to Dimes funeral brought the guitar and said "An original should have an original,” ....
