      Hello,
      These are two different guides showing two different ways of accessing your home lab server or self hosted services out from internet in case you don't have Public IP from your ISP.
      Port forwarding works only when you have Public IP.
      So if you have Public IP then you don't need AWS VPN Tunnel or CloudFlare Tunnel for this work. You can access your self hosted server & service directly via your Public IP with port forwarding.
      So, tell me, do you have Public IP available from your ISP?
      Thanks

      Hello,
      When you have an Public Static IP, it becomes very simple. With reference to this video guide, you can completely skip the AWS / OpenVPN, there is no need anymore.
      For Static Public IP based network, user just need to forward Port 80/443 from router settings (Usually called NAT / Port Forwarding) to the servers location NAT IP Address. That will allow all incoming web traffic to flow towards the Server local IP from router.
      However, in your case, I don't see the need of using TP-Link in-front of RouterBoard running RouterOS. That is a much better router compared to TP-Link Consumer Router. You can directly connection RouterBoard with your ISP CPE and let RouterOS handle the ISP and your local network.
      If you really need to use TP-Link ahead of routerboard, then two layers of port forwarding needed. First from TP-Link to RouterBoard (NAT IP) then from RouterBoard to it's client server IP.
      Thanks.

    I have tried your method to test it out but cannot access AWS public IP on the browser as an HTTP/HTTPS service. I think I am able to understand everything and did not miss any steps mentioned in your article but I have doubts in "Step 4" - "Forward all Internet Traffic to your NextCloud Server from AWS VPS" where you have used IP 10.8.0.45 where does this IP come from? And this step you haven't mentioned in your video too. I am susceptible to this, I think this is why I cannot access the next cloud server on public IP.

      @LazyTourer  Před 2 lety

      Hello,
      If you may please follow the tutorial given in our website (link given in the video description),
      1. Creating AWS A/C -> Deploy the Ubuntu Server (20 or 22) -> Update the Server
      2. Installing OpenVPN Server -> Creating Client and related Config File
      3. Assigning OpenVPN Server Client Static IP Address (Note :- Your Client is not yet connected, its preparation for Client Connection)
      4. Forwarding AWS Static IP Traffic (Port 80 & 443 to the would be client via the static VPN IP configured)
      5. AWS Server Firewall Port Opening (80 / 443 / 331) -> 331 will be used by this OpenVPN Server to connect with your local server
      Here, the 10.xx.xx.xx IP nis for VPN connection between AWS Server and Your Client. By Client -> it's meant your local server -> Note, its not yet created but VPN server side configurations are done via above steps.
      6. Downloading the OpenVPN Client configuration file from AWS -> This will be used in your local server to connect with AWS and obtain that internal VPN 10.xx.xx.xx IP
      Now you move on towards creating your local NextCloud Server in your local machine
      1. Install Ubuntu 20 or 22 in your local PC
      2. Update, Install & setup NextCloud
      3. Install OpenVPN Client Software -> Use that AWS given configuration file to connect with AWS -> Here the local machine will obtain the second IP, which is that internal 10.xx.xx.xx IP
      At this point, your AWS is already configured to forward all web traffic 80 & 443 towards your local server via that VPN connection and that static internal IP (Internal IP configured for your local machine)
      Hope this is clear. If not, ping me up -> You may get ping me in Twitter and Instagram also.

    • @LazyTourer
      @LazyTourer  Před rokem

      Hello,
      Actually EC2 is under always free tier. Trial products are free for certain time frame.
      Secondly rebooting won't change Public IP, shutdown & fresh start might. However, reboot will erase the port forwarding commands, one must re run those commands to start the port forwarding again.
      Lastly, when talking about limitations, the major factor is their new bandwidth police. Always free tier products, like EC2 is limited to a monthly data cap of 100GB (one-way) transfer.
      This 100GB limitation may hurt volume users !!
      However for home use, it should be good enough ✌🏻

      It depends on the need. For example, if I am to buy a domain from my channel, I am supposed to keep that in long term. So in that case, Godaddy / Bigrock or such company I would choose who has offices in India.. Little costly but its safe for long run.
      However, for projects like Home Server, if I am in need of a domain, it is not at all important, I can change any time or every year I can buy new domain for saving cost. In this case, I search the web and find the cheapest deal available !! Extension doesn't matter.. What even DOT it is.

      Hi,
      Process is very similar, just you need to use Virtualization. Windows 10 / 11 or anything above Server 2016 comes with Hyper-V. Hyper-V is a software like VMWare or Virtual Box allowing you to create VMs.
      NextCloud or any of the software I have used supports Windows directly, you need to create Linux VMs and install the software there under those VMs.
      Since you have Static Public IP, you dont need AWS or VPN. You can simply forward Ports (like 80/443) to the VM running Nginx Reverse Proxy. That will allow external access to all your services.
      Thanks.

      First, NextCloud and Ubuntu Shell users are two different authentication by the way. You can't access Nextcloud via OS level user accounts. You have to create nextclud (application level) users separately from Nextcloud admin panel.
      Secondly, ssh usr@IP -> command works for port 22 in default so if you are trying to access your local OS shell via IP of remote, it wont work. That will resolve into remote (AWS) OS shell.

    how much secure this setup

    • @LazyTourer
      @LazyTourer  Před rokem +1

      Hello,
      If you keep everything within it's default values (like in Ubuntu and Nextcloud) then it is as secure as any other major cloud service provider like Google Drive or OneDrive.
      SSL Certificate & that VPN Tunnel ensures that the connection is encrypted between the client and server.
      This setup doesn't have a SMS OTP based two factor authentication so the only way of getting hacked is if your admin account passwords (Ubuntu and Nextcloud) are compromised.
      SMS OTP based two factor authentication is costly, can't be done for free.
      Thanks.

      Then you don't have active network yet.
      Did you set your IP address and getway properly?
      What is your Home Router IP address?

       @Lazy Tourer the network is working completely fine and i am damn sure about gateway but i want to know that about subnet and and can i assign the ip which is already automatically allocated to other device ?

    • @LazyTourer
      @LazyTourer  Před rokem +2

      There are two ways of assigning Static IP
      Either you use MAC binding from your routers end to issue Static IP to the binded client
      Or you can manually assign Static IP to this machine as shown in the video.
      It's hard to troubleshoot without known detailed information about the network
      Like for example, my router is 192.168.1.1
      So my setup looks like that
      You need to check what is your Router IP range and proceed accordingly

      You can create another trial account & use another 12 months.
      Principal is same, so if you wish you can implement this same setup with Oracle Cloud too ✌🏻
