More About "OVERLOCKED: Origins":
Several thousand years into the future, Earth's natural resources are nearly depleted, forcing humanity to venture beyond the boundaries of our solar system to terra-form and harvest new worlds. Due to such rapid expansion, the frontier regions have become unstable and dangerous. Ava Huxley, an orphan-turned-former military special operative, is one of the few brave souls to face this challenge with her foster father, Hank Huxley -- both combat vets-turned-freelance miners. After a cave mining excursion on a particularly desolate desert moon, Mordos, they encounter a mysterious group of nomadic outlaws, who murder Hank in cold blood, Ava barely escaping with her life. One month later, Ava is at rock bottom after yet another failed attempt at therapy. Giving into her impulses, she ends up taking matters into her own hands and prepares to return to Mordos to kill as many of the nomadic outlaws as possible -- a suicide mission of sorts. After crossing paths with a fledging young cargo pilot , Jade Starunner, Ava convinces her to give her a ride back to the site of her father's death under false pretenses. Upon arrival, Ava admits her true motive and bargains with Jade to return in a few days. Overwhelmed, Jade refuses and abandons Ava, who ultimately succumbs to her fate and faces the violent nomads head on -- but, in a twist of fate, Jade has returned to help, only to have her ship shot-down in the process, leaving the two of them stranded and surrounded by the gang. With their budding connection having rekindled hope in themselves and their futures , they decide to face this new world together, one step at a time.

Many thanks to DUST for featuring our passion project on their platform and to all of you folks for checking it out -- this is a live-action introduction / setup / hook to our pre-existing "machinima" series made entirely in the space sim, "Star Citizen" -- with all characters and storylines being entirely original creations, although the world was modified into one of our own creation for this live action version. This short was produced in just two days, using donation funds from one of our amazing fans. We filmed at the iconic Vasquez Rocks (Star Trek) and a state-of-the-art Unreal 3D studio (LA Castle Studios). The original machinima series this is based on and other related creations can be viewed at EE Studios, here on CZcams. Thanks for watching!
@@TheVigilante2000 It's a live action introduction to a pre-existing "animated" series -- with more time and funds, we can keep going, but, with the funds we received, we were very grateful to be able to make this for our fans. Hopefully more to come -- thanks for watching!
Well that was surreal. Sick af but wouldn't expect anything less from ya.. now I just gotta figure out who is gonna play Gene! 😂😂
@@ForScienceSC thanks Bons - surreal indeed! And live action Gene!? Say no more…
@@000aleph sorry you feel that way. Understand this is standing on the shoulders of an already established “animated” series and was made for our fans.
Great work!! Amazing seeing my in-game character brought to life!!!
I should buy stock in Steyr Arms. Apparently they will still be in business in 2253.
Bullets are never obsolete.
Loved the android protagonist. The actress really nailed that expressionless, robotic, monotone demeanor in a way you rarely see when real people play automatons. She hit it out of the park with this performance! Can't wait to see more! The whole thing was like one 30 second teaser trailer evenly spread out over 18 minutes, and just as thrilling.
I was looking all over my house for a cricket during her therapy session...

Unplanned adventures are the best
@@mouselord999 hell yeah
Great short!!! I just love scifi!
Thought the thumbnail was showing a Firefly for a sec...😊❤
That’s why I clicked on it….
Beautifully made short! Definitely deserves to made into a greater story!! 🚀
Thanks! All we need is about… 80 million… to give the original series a proper, live action feature - lol
@@EE-STUDIOSpennies 😎
Darn it, left us hanging! That'll be an interesting film...cheers!
If you'd really like to see how it all unfolds, you can see the entire series in its "machinima" format on our channel -- just look for the OVERCLOCKED LORE PLAYLIST or the OVERCLOCKED SUPERCUTS for several hours more of content, including cross-overs with other creators in the "machinima" space.
Got me hooked! I'm definitely ready for more! Thanks. Awesome short, hopefully a follow-up?
UGH! THAT MAKES THIS ALREADY AWFUL THING 10x WORSE!!!
They should put that in the Title or description!!! That is a clip or sample!!! NOT 'Short Film'! ! ! !! 🤬
Was super fun to be a part of. Good work everyone. Director and writer Nate Ellis is the shit to work with. Your enthusiasm for story-telling is so apparent and to work with someone like you is fulfilling in every sense. Good work to all the actors. Catherine (the lead) congratulations. Your first lead and you held it baby. And you were so strong. Can't wait to see what you do with your future characters. To everyone else...gold! Make more Nate. Someone, for the love of God, give this man his own series. :)
I love you, Anette ❤ teamwork makes the dream work!
👍 👍
I have a lot of Sci- Fi ideas, etc. Where could I send them, to reach Dust? Can DUST Fans do that?
@@gregorytremaine1164 I think you just have to make a film and submit it. To my knowledge most if not all of the films on here are made independently and DUST acquires them. For example, mine was made as a passion project when one of our fans donated some funds for it. A lot of these films are probably proof-of-concepts for larger projects filmmakers are using to find funding for.
@@EE-STUDIOS I understand. Thanks. I didn't expect such a quick response. Again thank you. Good film!
Wow… This was SO GOOD! More like this. Pleeeeeease 🙏🙏🙏
This is truly one that needs to be continued. It left right before a pivotal scene.
I would love to see a part 2.
guess those hating on this are not familiar with the Star Citizen machinima and the saga that is about to unfold...
Yes, Im afraid that detail is being lost among newcomers to the world. Im trying to explain it as best I can though.
But isn't that very similar to "if you read the expanded novel, you'll understand." Shouldn't this set up what the story and world is about? It should if that is what appears to be viewers issue.
@@richardadesmond I mean, this short sets up the basic premise of the world and sends Ava on her tumultuous journey of revenge, which is the impetus of the series that goes much deeper and has many layers and turns. With the time, budget and constraints we had, that was about as ambitious as we could get.
@@EE-STUDIOS Okay, cool. I genuinely wish you the best with it all. But if you're trying to explain to people what is to unfold, I wonder if you're putting off your best stuff in the saga till later, instead of earlier, and that would get the audience really engaged. Maybe? Put the great stuff in early and escalate from there. I know it's hard, I'm a screenwriter, myself.
@@richardadesmond it's tricky with the budget we're at -- if this were a proper TV episode, we'd show the full ambush Ava and her father experienced by the Duster gangs on the moon -- the Duster gangs have hover bikes and Ava ends up gunning some down, then manning the turret on their mining ship and taking the last one out on his bike. Obviously we can't do all that. Another route would be to go SUPER contained on this, make it a 5 min short and laser in on Ava as a character, likely when she was a little girl and was abandoned on the streets, then breaks into her foster-father-to-be's apartment in search of food and show how that relationship begins.
This was awesome 😎 I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for more. Well done to all involved 👍
Very colourful characters, pleasant to watch.
Cool little piece. Tricky covering much of an arc on a minimal budget but interesting and quirky characters make it work. Catherine Pham carried it very well with a great and fierce look. Think she has a promising future as an actress. And the Temu shop masks for respirators were hysterical. Have one in my garage and no, it don't filter much so good thing Mordos was breathable!
Ha!
"That's mah girl." 😉
Ooh, I love her 😅, 'here's your deposit 😂.
That weapon would definitely be an antique. Bullets worth more than Gold.
It’s “vintage”
Was looking for Kirk fighting the Gorn.
I wager 100 quatloos on the Gorn.
Absolutely, that same rock formation has appeared in hundreds of tv western, Science Fiction and apocalyptic type movies.
Thank you DUST for sharing with us. You guys are awesome
Extremely professional short film, great acting, great star sequences all top notch, as good as it gets, but what happens next? You need to make a sequel !
Cool to see this come out of Machinima. Awesome work! 🍺
Thanks dude!
"Revenge is a dangerous business" . . . this is a pilot piece for a potential series, or feature film. There are some glaring technical holes in the story, but the core concept is definitely there. Catherine Pham captures her character perfectly, I hope y'all can get funded to develop this further as it should be.
Thanks! This is actually based on a pre-existing, fully formed series with hours of content. You might enjoy checking it out on our channel! And yes, Catherine is awesome!
In Spain we generally say: " Revenge is a main course that must be served cold".
@@pedrojuliancereceda8301 Ive heard / used, “Revenge is a dish, best served cold.”
Proud of you guys @ee-studios!! I remember watching this as a Machinima when it first hit, to see it live action is insane!
Thanks Spectemus! As someone who I know is familiar with the project’s roots, it means a lot to us.
Holy hell - GREAT acting, fantastic effects, sound is amazing - the story deserves a damned series. Jeez, man.
All of this!
This served to remind me that "Scifi" movies are often just an old fashioned Western dresses up in mylar. Good stories never die. I liked it. Hope you're able to complete it.
To Nate & co.
You guys really blew it out of the park with this one. Casting, sets, storytelling, everything is just a masterpiece. Absolutely incredible to see the story of Ava go from that first episode to something at this scale.
Fantastic job, my man!
Now, where is someone to give you a few million dollars to turn this into a serial production?
I know right?! This was amazing and I'd love to see what Nate and everyone could do with even a low end Hollywood budget!
Thanks Sage and Jade - as folks who are familiar with the roots of this project, it’s good to know our efforts are appreciated!
I hope there's a follow up to this
Now THIS is a kickass scifi short! This would make a great series. 👍
What a great job getting me lost in the world of the movie! Super impressed with the effects as well.
Well done. Is there a part 2?
Thanks! If you'd like to see the full story, we have the entire original machinima series on our channel. Just look for the playlist OVERCLOCKED SUPERCUTS or OVERCLOCKED LORE PLAYLIST (which includes cross-over content from other machinima creators). Thanks!
This was great to watch with Pops, we loved it!!!!
Nice 😮
Well done, can't wait to see more.
This would make for a great series. Really enjoyed it.
Great stuff there!! Really liked it and the premise behind it. Good acting as well! Keep it going!
Really good! You were able to suggest a complex, underlying world, without painfully spelling it it out.....
Fine storytelling! Thanks!
Well that was surreal! Sick af! But wouldn't expect anything less from Nate and @ee-studios
Super! Thank you very much!
Same location as that Greta Van Fleet video, when the curtain falls?
hold up was that a Connie at the end?
😂
Loved it! I love seeing Star Citizen inspired content branching out elsewhere especially when it is based on amazing people from the Verse!
Thanks MaidenAriana! You rock!
Well done. Good acting and interesting storyline.
13:35 Do it. You know you want it.
Steyr Aug. longevity and functionality indeed
I love this little badass!
10:44 is a VERY DANGEROUS THING TO SAY!!! 👮♂️👮🏾♀️ Be careful folks!🚔🚓
I thoroughly enjoyed this Sci-Fi short. A dense storyline crammed into 15 minutes and every scene added depth to this short film. It's a killer movie, with zero unnecessary filler. Great work of art. Thanks for sharing.
We appreciate it 🎉
Old lady was amazing! Now we're talking yeaaa
Love to see a longer version and the end of this with the two women
So (spoilers ahead) Jade is the daughter of a wealthy family, trying to prove something to herself out on the frontier by making her own way -- she gets her brains blown out in front of Ava, which sends Ava into a downward spiral which -- well... the machinima series this is based on truly goes to depths you'd never imagine.
@@EE-STUDIOSThe first woman dies while trying to ride a scooter drunk.
@@lostcat9lives322 that’s the alternate universe version where they’re also all cats.
A longer version with vibrators
I recognize the Star Trek rock at the beginning. That’s what I call it, anyway.

As usual, Sweeeeeeeeeetaaaaahh!!!
1:13 - Oh great, Hamas is on Mordos, too? I'll pass on that planet.
Mining? Isnt that what they plan to do to Mars?
No They Want To “Terra-Form” Mars & Make it Inhabitable For Humans To Extend Our Species into An interplanetary Race…. But There Will Be Areas Mined & Changed With Human infrastructure But Not For Exportation More For Growing Food, Plants & Water Generation etc…. Hope This Helped 😇
That was another good one.
o7 ... absolutely loved it
Thanks! And I know you're familiar with the original series, so that means even more to us.
Oh my goodness! Very good. Loved it.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
*Like the character's name Jade Strarunner*
I liked this. It was cool! Cool outro music too. Catherine Pham was a great lead! Judy Nazemetz was a great admin clerk, too! I do think, thought that the Starrunner character would have worked better as a 40-ish year old man. Not that Ms. Shah's acting was bad. It was great. But for authenticity, I think a man cast in that role would have worked better. Just my armchair directorial $0.02. Thanks.
Interesting note - in the machinima series this is based on, Jade’s character is actually the daughter of corporate royalty - she’s literally a princess - which is something we don’t touch on in this passion project. You might enjoy the original series on our channel.
@@EE-STUDIOS I guess I would need to watch more to understand why a princess would need to worry about making payments on her ship.
@@shawnerz98 in the original series, she was at odds with her parents and wanted to prove to herself that she can make it on her own -- which actually becomes a huge point of contention when Ava finds out Jade has such a huge safety net.
spas 12 only weapon we use for close encounters und you all know it
Modern cinema is running out of movie ideas and there are literally so many different movies that can be made out of these short films it's laughably annoying
I recognize Vasquez Rocks, Captain Kirk and the Gorn will be there any moment.
Yes! We had our PA fend off the Gorn during our shoot there... however, the tourists made it through.
testy little chick sci fi.
Awesome flick, but I have one question 😂; Why didn't you put the filter on the bottom of the Amazon face masks? You could see the light passing through the mesh below her chin & the gap between her mask & face. Hilarious! Obviously not alien-planet friendly.
Good question - so the filters actually interfered with recording the actor’s voices in a way we couldn’t afford to deal with.
Anyone else wondering how they got an F88 on YT ?
Prop house - cool looking rifle!
What is this the new dune trailer?
I did like other plots and actors more. 🙂
You mean from the machinima series?
@@EE-STUDIOS no, actually, because I don't know that series. Could you please tell me some titles from that series so I can go and watch them ?
DRAGGGGSSSS....Then goes nowhere.....descent cg, and props though
More please.
What's the photo of?
The ship departing after Jade leaves Ava on Mordos.
Yup, that was good.
Those two aren’t gonna last long!
Spoiler: in the original series this is based on, Jade gets shot in the face early on and Ava is eventually dismembered and brutally destroyed after being engaged by a fighter ship - and is brought back to life as a sort of terminator cyborg against her will, which ultimately leads to her connecting with her own humanity after a life hard-lived.

Proper quality this. o7
Good to hear -- we stretched our budget as far as we could!
I'd bet this is going to be picked up by the major studios. Between the writing and the acting, it has Oscar potential. 😅
The sun android?
*At **8:18** Has the makings of a great exgirlfriend.*
A Type I or K1 civilization has mastered all the energy available to their home planet, available from a neighboring star. It extracts its energy, information, and raw materials from fission and fusion power, and renewable resources; is capable of interplanetary spaceflight and communication; mega-scale planetary engineering; medical breakthroughs to eliminate disease and slow ageing; multiplanetary government and interplanetary trade; species is tech augmented; but is still vulnerable to extinction.
Another beautifully made story. Also, she is a great character.
The acting and special effects are pretty good however what's the story?
What about the character ark and the denouement?
It’s a setup for what will ultimately be a revenge tale that leads Ava on a difficult journey towards inner peace. This short is a setup - a live action hook to a pre-existing, “animated” series that explore this story and characters at several hours length.
Thanks for watching!
how the hell did you come up with the idea that earths resources are going to be depleted in 200 years or so. i would say your a raving mad optimist.
Ha! 😂
✌
Interesting start.🤔
The bad guys are bad because they're bad. You can tell because *heavy breathing*.
I mean, great writing, lots of depth, I can't wait to learn more about this guy's compelling need to run around in the desert with a paintball tagger.
Ava irl!!
Like the videos, but dont like how they leave the scene just as the action starts, horrible way to end the movie .
Meh, it was alright. The over seriousification came off as cheesy. Oo look at this tough pose for a second just to show how serious she really is. Other than that it was good.
Good story. Good acting, filming needs looking at?!
