Alsace had quickly become a personal favorite wine region for my wife Lisa and I during our 4 years living in far north Italy 2015-2018.

Fascinating - thank you. A spectacular and very interesting wine region that, thankfully, is well represented at my preferred wine merchant.

I am from the German side of the Upper Rhine Valley (which we share with Alsace) and like the documental, though it’s not really true what they say.
Alsace was far bigger than now and was also partly located in some parts that are now german. On both sides on the direct border it was a fight in between the French kingdoms/ republics and the Holy Roman Empire. But Alsace was first completely part of the old Roman Empire and later Holy Roman Empire of German Nation. This was not really a state or country but the neighbor of ancient France.
After the 30 years war in the late 1600’s Alsace was first annexed by the French king Louis XIV (including parts of todays German Palatine). In 1871 though was just the first time that it went back to the German Empire for a few years.
Until today Alsace is bilingual and the German Baden Region (where I am from) mostly is, too. Both sides have been in both hands many times and experienced terrible wars. We are happy to be a non-border-friends-neighbors today!

One of the most intriguing food & wine regions. The Pinot Gris are lovely and so much more interesting than the styles from northern Italy. Looking forward to trying their Pinot noir.

I think the best Rieslings in the world come from Alsace. Very under appreciated. Some the of best whites in the world not so expensive. What’s not to like

It didn't explain how they used the willow, stinging nettle and the others? How are they used and for what purpose I'd love to know.

The willow bark infusion is to be used after a frost because it helps the vines to regenerate. Foliar spray application method. The winegrowers spray the preparation on the leaves, and they use of hot water nettle decoctions. One kg of nettle is fermented in 10 L of cold water for a week. The dilution is used inspraying on plants. It is a maceration in cold water. They use herbal teas and decoctions to fight against mildew. The goal is to limit the use of copper.
