I've followed Theo for a couple years. This episode is a good example of why I'm a fan. He's obviously having a difficult day emotionally, for whatever reason, be it the dark arts whispers getting louder, or just a general sense of existential malaise.
But he pushes onward, still being funny, still unpacking his quirky, unique observations and perspectives. He could try to hide the sadness like many people do, but he doesn't. Vulnerability isn't funny, yet he allows to poke out at the seams. He's simply just a real fucking person.
I want you to like me. I want to like myself. That's my read on Theo.
And that, I think, is the true inner monologue of everyone.

The Ari thing can be summed up really well with one thought - His behavior betrays him as a deeply, deeply unhappy person.
OR he thinks it's pathetic that a society and the media deify a rapist. He blew it back the other way because that's what it takes to wake people the fuck up. The details of the case are established and not debated (the media calls it 'complicated' - holy fuck!), so anyone choosing to overlook this is complicit.

@@ptaylor3304 part of the problem is they aren't talking about the other people involved, especially the poor kids. They are only talking about the famous guy who was accused of rape. Not a good person, just a good basketball player.
I had the same thought. That is the behavior of someone who wants to bring others down, because misery loves company.
But, that said, I think it is refreshing to hear anyone say something that goes against the grain. Kobe was just an athlete, and I didn't know him, I don't care that he is dead. And if he did rape someone then he was a piece of shit, too.

Which is why I personally think Ari hates him. Dude got cheated on and couldn’t handle it and to this day probably cries to himself over it.
