Imagine that! A business that found they could revert to handling customers and doing business the old fashioned way with pen and paper and maybe a stand-alone calculator. A while back I wen through the drive-through at a fast food restaurant. After sitting at the order point for minutes, I was told their computer was down and they couldn't take orders. After being told they had no idea how long it would be until the computers were up, I asked, "How about using pencil, paper, and maybe a calculator?" The mid-Gen-Z male told me that he did not have to take that abuse. I parked and went inside and asked to speak with the manager. It turns out the Gen Z male was the manager. That is far from being unusual. I've seen many businesses just shut down and turn customers away when their computers aren't working. So, this is refreshing to hear of a business that kept the doors open, their people working, and customers served.
CDK is back up, but for how long? Also, was customer data taken? Too much centralization and lack of redundancy. Software and programming should be regulated as the engineering discipline it really is. Otherwise, these incidents will keep happening.
