    Who would have thought rebuilding a trim was so easy?? Great job 5 Star Marine, thank you for the great service!

    I just got word back from 5-star about my Yamaha F115 tilt trim unit. Original price quoted was $630 with a 5-7 day turn around. Took over 2 weeks to call me back to say it was finished. No call to let me know that the price was MUCH higher. Mine ended up being over $1,100 PLUS $40 shipping (I am in SC, not Canada and I shipped it to them for $18) -Be Aware, prices are higher now than when this was posted and they will not warn you when the price is substantially higher. New units are $1700-1800 so paying $1,100 is shocking for most of us. No discussion, just pay the fee or they keep the unit and sell to someone else. Win-win for them. Just seems like they should contact you if the price almost doubles..

    Excellent video for removal ,and I just received my trim rebuild from 5 star w same happy turnaround $700 even for mine

    Wow, that’s fast, and the customer service is a plus these days, I think you did well Dan. You do such a great job on informing people of what they need to know and appreciate the data. Watch out for those sneaky logs and branches in the water with that newly rebuilt trim. Thumbs up for “5 Star Marina”.

      They were fantastic, super pleased with them! Thanks so much for the kind words and yes definitely have to keep you head on a swivel in the spring on the St. Lawrence, there is a CRAZY amount of debris that flows down from up river. Logs, debris, entire boat houses lol! Hope you're doing well, thanks again for all your support over the last few years :)

    I maybe in the same boat :) myself, my 115 ETEC lift is gurgling and stuttering when not used for a bit, however for now it is still working fine just need to work out the air with a few lift/drops. It also drops over a few days, unless locked up. I have been told I am in for a 2-2.5k replacement. So if it comes to that I will surely look at this option. Thanks for a great video for all boat outboard motor owners.

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah sounds like yours might be going as well... if you are not losing oil but you're losing pressure, it could be your manual release valve just needs tightening or replacement. Maybe check that before you go to a rebuild :) You are very welcome, thank you so much for watching and for the comment :)

      @@DanRichardFishing I had to the dealer, but they make more money from a new lift then a simple fix, I will and thanks for the advice. Year 15 and so far one warranty the two inner injector replacement (which cost me the season) and a new computer last year, I cannot complain about my motor been pretty reliable.

    Great vid, very helpful!
    Question: Did you have any issues with your shock rod? I had a diagnosis of needing a new "shock rod kit" ( $1300 Canadian) and wondered if this was something that 5 Star is able to rebuild as well? I dont have any issues with my trim motor, just the shock rod leaking.
    Thanks for the time!

    Good stuff. I'm getting ready to do this on a 2014 20 hp Merc. I was able to get a new unit at a great price. Did the rebuilt unit come with oil in it? I assume a new unit bagged up from the factory would not need oil?

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  Před 7 měsíci

      The rebuilt one from 5 Star came back full and ready to install and like you said, I would assume a brand new one from the factory would need oil. Good luck with your install!

    Hey Dan, have you ever had your trim make a decent squeaking sound when trimming down? My Dad's 90hp Mercury trim goes up and down really smooth but when trimming down just squeaks/squeals way louder then when it's trimming up (it looks to be very similar to your trim motor). Checked the trim oil but it's full and no leaks. So just kind of stumped. I have heard of other Mercury owners complain about the same thing with new or old motors. Thanks

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      Have you tried greasing the rollers that the main ram connects to? Squeaking is a lubrication issue 99% of the time so something needs greasing most likely. Does it get worse if it's colder outside?

    • @Relient77
      @Relient77 Před 2 lety

      @@DanRichardFishing Thanks! Now to figure out where the rollers are... this boat is very new to us and is our first boat with a power trim. We figured something just needed greasing and we have hit all the grease nipples we can find on the outboard motor itself. With regards to if it's better or worse in the cold that has yet to be determined as it has been a pretty consistent temperatures out when we have been playing with it, but it's colder out this morning so I'm going to go check. Thanks again!

    What is your preference on fuel stabilizer. Curious about this K100 I seen. What do you spray on your engine to clean it. So much shit out there a guy doesn't know what to use. Thanks.

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      I use Seafoam as the stabilizer and cleaner - I put it in my jerry cans for fueling my small engines like lawnmower, pressure washer etc :) And for the cleaner/protectant on the engine cowl, I use F11 Top Coat, which does a great job and it's safe on plastics and vinyl, which is crucial. The issue with spray on waxes and waxes that contain silicone or carnuba contain petroleum distillates. That actually DRIES OUT your vinyl decals and can lead to them getting brittle and cracking faster than if you had done nothing at all. The F11 contains no petroleum distillates.

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      @@trevorjordan1787 Ohhh you mean to get the wires through? Honestly there's no way a trim tool would have helped, I have several trim tools for cars and honestly it was so insanely tight that removing the grommet was the only way to get that in there. I am positive that's exactly how they did it at the factory as well because the grommet is pre-split, which is what they do when there are cables already in place and you need to slip the grommet over them rather than push them through. Plus the sheathing on the sensor cable was soooo soft, that any hard friction against it tears it open. I was pushing at it so hard I was practically lifting the boat off the damn trailer lol! Took 5 minutes once I popped the grommet out. 😂😂

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  Před 2 lety

      The funny part of all this is any video about removing or installing the trim is about how much of a PITA the pins are to remove. That was the easiest part of the entire install!!! It was the dang wires I hated 😂

    • @DanRichardFishing

      I use F1 as it's safe for plastic and decals so it won't whiten plastics and it's not bad for vinyl decals like waxes are. :) I'm just about to go to sleep for the night but tomorrow I'll go check the exact name on the bottle and post it for you :)
