    • @KarolynsKakes

  • @tapiwashendelane518

    With leaving it out for all those minutes doesn't it dry out and break by the time you put it on the side of the cake?

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Před 2 lety

      If you want it to dry with a curve to it, get a cake dummy the same size of the cake you're putting it on and dry it on there so it won't break! Or you can seal it in a plastic ziplock bag so it won't dry out before you put it on the cake.

    I just mde something similar and it's currently drying but now I'm worried I didn't roll the fondant thin enough and I'm worried it'll be too heavy and slip off the side of the cake..... Is this possible?! Oh no...

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Před 2 lety

      If that's the case, stick toothpicks in the back along with some icing on the back to help keep it on the cake!

    Beautiful 💗 Can we use a 6 inch cake pan if we do not have a cake dummy?

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you can! You just have to make sure the name will fit on the pan and won't hang over the side. If the name is too big, I would recommend putting it in a ziplock bag so it doesn't dry out and put it on the cake when you are ready 😊

    I find that my fondant drags or I get elephant skin. Is it because it didn't set up enough with the tylose powder?

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes! If it drags when you're cutting it, add more powder and knead it in and let it sit for about 15 min then try again.

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Před 2 lety +1

      I use the Wilton gum tex Tylose powder now!
      You have to make sure you add enough to make the fondant stiff.
      If you add the powder and roll it out and let it sit and it still doesn't feel pretty stiff after 15-20 minutes, you need to add more. Was the fondant dragging as you cut it?

    Well...this explains one issue I had. I added Tylose powder to a batch of fondant, waited 10 minutes, then tore off and tried rolling/cutting letters out. It was obviously not gonna work. Note to self....take the amount of needed fondant, THEN add some Tylose to that part, THEN roll it out and WAIT 10-15 minutes. Good grief, I'm such a boob.
    By the way, I have all my tips and couplers in a zip lock bag. I think I like your container much better! Gonna see what Hobby Lobby has to offer. What brand of tips do you use? What would you say are your most used piping tips?

      I have a lot of Wilton and Ateco tips.
      I mostly use the round ones for cutting small circles. #1 up to #12.
      Then the larger ones, I have to look when I get a chance to see the numbers they are.

    Does it taste lemon?

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Před 3 lety

      It does. I have recently started using Everclear vodka, the alcohol content is really high and it evaporates really fast and doesn't taste like lemon. (There's no alcohol in there after it evaporates.)
