  • The Scots College was founded by Pope Clement VIII as a means for young Scottish Catholic men to obtain an education, as post reformation Catholics were excluded from higher level education at that time. BBC Scotland's Priest School looks at the origins of this ancient Scottish institution and its role as it exists today.

    It's interesting to consider that most parents eagerly fork over enormous sums of money to send their children to college and experience four years of debauchery, while they discourage their children from investigating their faith at the seminary....

      @BelatedCommiseration Před rokem +13

      Well...I think that is your own prejudice speaking there...just because one is secular and studying a secular subject at university does not make 'debauchery' a must...and if all the reporting within Vatican city by the likes of Le Monde is to be believed...there is certainly enough 'debauchery' going on behind those walls amongst senior clergy that would make even a Borgia blush...so I am afraid that just believing in Jesus and progressing up a hierarchy, even if it is faith based, does not make anyone any the less exposed to corruption and loose morals...sometimes seemingly quite the opposite when you are senior clergy and used to 'obedience' without question.

    This seminary most likely doesn't like conservative RC seminarians that don't accept Panchamma idol worship nor the Unitarian Universalist position on salvation. RC seminaries have to teach the new bizarre positions on faith and morals.

    What a horrid waste of a young life! The idea of celibacy is so against the Bible in every way. Suffice it to say, I watched this and was appalled that these young men had been so indoctrinated from a young age to do this and deny their true destiny. As a Christian, I find it truly sad to see the bible being used out of context. Mind you, I do like the playing of Zadok the Priest playing in the background, compsed for the Coronations of the head of the Anglican Church playing in the background

      Jesus was celibate. His followers became celibate. Celibacy is as old as Christianity itself. The ancient desert fathers were celibate. I don't understand how you can say that it is against the Bible. Then again, Catholics rely on Tradition as well, not only on scripture.

      @@antonioramos7139 How do you know Jesus was celibate? Celibacy is not what the Bible states, it is very clear that we are here to continue and celibacy is an act of betrayla to God. Catholics rely on evil prctaices, have done throughout history. Look at present day, the US catholic church will anull a marriage for a lump some of dollars, Irealns Ctaholic priests and paedophilia and yet they are protected by Rome, WW2, Catholic Church was complicit in the rounding up of Jews, at the end, it was the same church that organised escape lines for nazi war criminals.
