The differences between GT Pro Freestyle Tour bars and Gt Performer bars 87-89.

- The PFT bars are full 4130 chromoly and the performer bars are hi-tens steel. The PFT bars weigh alot less at 1.11 pound and the performer bars weigh 2.6 pounds. The pft bars have a circle stamp with a GT logo inside and say cr-mo under it on the top left part to the side under the cross bar. The pft bars also have double knurling on the bottom and they are narrower on the bottom sides and the bars ends are angled a bit higher. 1 more thing the bar ends on the performer have a seam from folded metal and pfts do not since its full chromo

Excellent bits of insight! That the chromoly bars don't have the inside seam, are double knurled, and about half the weight. 🤘
yup but not half the weight like 1/4. They are 1.11 pounds,the non- chromo bars are 2.5 pounds and heavy

Thanks for this video comparison. I'm building an 87 and literally just had this same conversation with @atrains on Museum. It turns out the frame set that I have is a 87 Pro Performer, not a PFT. The bars are 29 3/4" wide, single knurled and the coin stamp/CR-MO is on the opposite side (if sitting on the bike, it's on the vertical tube by your left knee).
pft and pro performer frame is the exact same,only difference is the parts. Sometimes stamping is wrong or missing,back in the 80s things were neber very consistant,those guy were probably always drunk at work it seems.
@@MorbidThrasher666LOL That's right. I have two 87 CR-MO seat posts, both not cut and the coin stamps are at different angles. I just started a 87 GT PP/PFT build. The frame (187) has the coin roll with the bubble GT 4130 stamp, s dropouts and bottom 990 mounts. The forks are daggers with dual cable feed, the seat post is also coin the stamp. The handlebars are the only thing. I don't have an actual PFT handlebar to see what the bar rake angle to compare these with. However, it only has the single knurling, is the right width and with the CR-MO coin stamp but it's not on the front. I want to build it as a PFTTM with PS crank, power disc, 883/990 brakes, Gen 1 Gyro and Ukai wheels.
Always wondered if there was a difference. Now I know. How about the seat post? Is that of the Performer also steel and not chromoly? If not, then what’s up with the “GT 4130 CHROMOLY HUNTINGTON BEACH” sticker on the bars and seat post for ‘87 Performers if they weren’t really 4130 chromoly? Did GT lie to us? These are the things that keep me awake at night.
Seat post have all been chromoly
On my pro freestyle team tour I had Haro Knee Savers. I thought GT bars stunk.
That's why I have Dyno pretzel bats on my PFT,I think k GT bars are rather boring
