    I'm gonna try your recipe; however, I'm perplexed by folk here whom have said that their dough got infected with fungus and pests... I've been making Christmas decorations from dough for years and never had a problem with either fungus or pests. Of course as soon as they're dry I put a base coat on them, then an acrylic coat, and then varnish them. I've never used salt in my dough tho... My decorations have lasted for at least a dozen years without any problems such as described. In any event your video was great! Thank you for sharing. :)

    • @CreativeCatCreations
      @CreativeCatCreations  Před 5 lety +3

      Yeah true, even i use my Christmas ornaments for years...you just need to seal them with varnish as soon as they dry...salt works as preservative....may be people dont follow the instructions properly

      It's depend upon the weather of your city or country but if we apply acrylic court and one is to eat it will last longer so we have to apply it after drying

    • @laurenpiantino8312
      @laurenpiantino8312 Před 5 lety +1

      @@CreativeArtbyRoja I don't believe that I quite understood what you are saying, sorry... We are talking about ornamental decorations, not edible decorations. I'm also confused by you saying that it depends on one's country or climate for making these decorations. Growing up I made these in my home state, Tennessee, also I made them in Chicago and Florida; since my Mother is English, I've also made them in the UK too, and then again in France and the Isle of Man; in fact, wherever I am in the world, I still make them for friends and family. Never had a problem with the different climates. I always knew as a child that these were not edible decorations/ornaments, and would never eat anything coated in paint and varnish of any sort.

    Thank you for your effort, Cat.
    I am long searching for a home made clay recipe to make my bowls and dishes and, after several other failed attempts, I tried this recipe, but unfortunately this doesn't fit the bill either. It was way too soft and sticky and I had to add much more flour to make it manageable. But it stayed soft and gooey and difficult -not to say impossible- to form it into a nice, thin layer. It cracked while drying and seems not to dry completely. In short: probably works well for little ornaments as seen in the video, but not for bigger projects like bowls and (jewelery) dishes. So I continue to use store bought air-dry clay.
    I'm sorry, Cat.

I just mix my old coffee pot remnants as the fluid instead of water. I bake them on parchment paper in the oven @250 degrees F, which dries them quicker & browns them like a real loaf of bread. They come out really cute.

    Thankyou di. I tried the clay which u made with fevicol and cornflour and it turned out to be perfect and soft.I made some projects from that clay and it's really a good thing to try.Thankyou soo much😘
    U also mentioned that it shrinks,mine one didn't shrinked ,it holded it's shape and size😊

    • @CreativeCatCreations
      @CreativeCatCreations  Před 6 lety +3

      Thats really great😊glad to know that😊
      Shrinkage is totally depend on the water content in clay ie thickness of glue which evaporates after drying and reaults in shrinkage...so if your glue is thick then shrinkage percentage will also low😊

    • @CreativeCatCreations
      @CreativeCatCreations  Před 6 lety +2

      Thank you so much 😊😍
      The texture of this clay is different than cornflour clay due to salt....so thin petals wont be strong enough so u need to keep them thick...u can make your own modelling clay mixing putty+glue or ceramic powder+glue

      If you stay in highly humid place, it will happen as already instructed in video that this clay gets effected by humidity as high salt content.... this is not something invented by me...in western countries salt dough gets used since centuries...i just tried to introduce it here as people wanted a cheap clay...but offcourse its depends on place to place....even i have salt dough things i made 6 years ago completely intact.....you need to take this everything in consideration before getting disappointed....btw you can oven dry it if there is high humidity.

    how to dry in oven, is the oven to be set on for 4-5 hrs? and at what temperature? or in open air? what care needs to be taken so that it doesnt crack and is fully dry.

      Set time for 4 hrs and temp on minimum setting...i keep it on 175 f. Dry it in open air only if climate it dry...humid temperature doesn't let it dry.
