    From B&W sheet: The imposing DM604 S3 is the only full 3-way system in
    the range. The dedicated Kevlar® cone midrange driver is housed in its own isolated chamber within the cabinet and delivers all the nuances of the detail in the recording without the encumbrance of having to produce any bass.Twin 180mm (7 in) aluminium cone bass drivers combine with Flowport to deliver the deepest bass frequencies with ease. Like all the vented-box systems in the range, foam plugs are supplied to block the ports should the acoustic of the listening room impose too much bass
    reinforcement. Suited to larger rooms, the DM604 S3 is capable of reproducing everything from the delicate sounds of a solo performance to the complexities of a large ensemble.
    Specification of B&W DM604 S3:
    - Frequency Response: 30Hz - 42kHz(-3dB); (-6dB).

    This line of the DM600S3 series is my absolute favorite. In sound AND looks. I have the DM603S3 and thr DM601S3. I bought them in 2005 and have been impressed for almost 20 years. But looking at this breakdown has taken some luster off of my "magic boxes". I still love them. But looking at the insides and the components makes me feel like I should try building my own.
    I still love them though. I might see if I can find a used quality DM604S3 just to compare.

    • @N4CR5
      @N4CR5 Před 2 lety

      They all shared same drivers/etc so its same just larger. I've also had the 604S2 for over 15+ years, best investment I've made, out lasted multiple PCs and other equipment and can go up against anything new and similar price range in a stereo shop.
      Building your own is hard... easier to start with subs, less resonance/etc technicalities in design to learn.

  • @divinginthedeep
    @divinginthedeep Před 3 lety +7

    They look nice. But the woofers seemed somewhat misleading with those super wide dust-caps. I almost thought the voicecoil was going to be very wide in diameter.

    This was not a very high model at the time, so material reflect this. I have few pairs of 604S2 and 605S2 and boxes are pretty much same. Money went into drivers, boxes are ok for price. Bit chunky, so happier in bigger rooms.

    It's not that B&W is any worse than Magnat Transpuls and all the others you had dissected, but it just goes to show that in the audiophile and Hi-Fi speaker racket, 90% of what you pay for is gimmicks, marketing hoopla, and vapor. All of them seem to eb building these things as inexpensively as possible. How much they end up costing -- that is where the "walking bullsh_t" part of the business equation becomes prevalent. Not picking on one single mfr -- they are all guilty as sin of doing this.
