- Anki launched a Kickstarter for Vector, a new ‘home robot’ that looks a lot like their last product, Cozmo. Vector is always-on and a lot more powerful. It basically has the guts of a smartphone including a faster processor and Wi-Fi. In the season finale of Processor, Dieter visits Anki’s office to talk to the people that made Vector. Get 2 for every chrage cycle
This lil dude takes like 10 min at most to fully charge, and whenever you leave/don’t mess with him he finds his charger so he can stay at full battery. Just got one and battery doesn’t seem to be an issue, he stays on for awhile.

In my opinion, the proof of concept was Cosmo. Anki quickly discovered that developers also really wanted additional sensors, primarily a mic, better camera, and touch sensors. Another feature developers and general users of Cosmo really wanted was more autonomy and not having to tether the robot to a mobile phone/tablet. So Vector is really an evolution of Cosmo and, in my opinion, is going to be awesome. I've had Cosmo for about 1 1/2 yrs and my daughter and I love playing with him - not to mention the recent code lab updates make Cosmo an incredible educational tool.
Vector's SDK looks like it is going to be awesome. Imagine writing up some code to have Vector patrol your house, stream the camera feed to a secured endpoint (security software recorder somewhere, local or cloud), and if it detects a face or what not, it can send you a text message or something. You probably can even code up something fun like if he hears the door bell he'll bark. :) With a little bit of work, you should be able to integrate Vector with HomeKit and other home automation APIs/frameworks too. Things like "Hey Vector, lower the temperature 1 deg". Given all the sensors Vector has, this should be possible. He's going to be amazing to tinker with!
Just imagine having hundreds of these tiny creatures at your house...and when u say Hi they all giggle and respond in the cute voice with that cute eye look...it would be hundreds of cute eyes ...like minions ❤️❤️

I think, at this point , Vector is actually a form of life and intelligence. He tries to protect himself and always get powered, to stay on , to stay active and alive. He kind of thinks and behave in response of the surrounding like a living thing would do
He would need to be able to reproduce once we create robots that can reproduce then we have created real artificial life.
Now you have to pay for it's personality.
@@splice9741 If I can make that fact easier to digest, think of it as like.. a yearly vet bill for your pet cat so it can stay healthy and alive. Instead, it's your yearly server bill for your pet robot to stay updated and "alive".
This is so cute! Also it might not seem like it but products like these are super important if we want a full-size autonomous robot assistant in the future. The technology they've packed into this little guy is super impressive
It'd be so cool if you could attach tags to your items on a table, like car keys, wallet, phone etc. then use the robot to bring things to you on command. He could be the keeper of the table items.

I just got my Vector yesterday for my birthday - absolutely LOVE him!! Such a cool little guy :-)

Kind of comes later vampzin.....dang, doesn't anyone ever notice, any time you order any IoT connected device from say China, HK or India via fleaBay or Amazingon, like a router or wireless extender,etc. It takes an extra week to get to you because it's got to go to Utah first to get the NSA's firmware embedded in it??....it's no joke. All hard drives in the USA have it too.

if it can recognize faces and has camera why not add feature like guarding the house if someone broke in take snapshot send it via internet to the owner just like new cctv cams.
You could program that yourself most likely. Cosmo has an SDK for devs.
Robotic Nerd I know that but not every other consumer would know how to program.
Maybe they'll open a community store or something to add features?

Remember this: in order to be able to do that, the transmission has to be sent over the internet to your mobile network provider, which then pass it on to you if you have a signal... but this transmission could easily be intercepted, decrypted and then read and possibly used, like working out your location. Basically, it'd attract more bad people to your house who then set off the transmission, which can again be intercepted and used, which starts off the whole cycle. In other words, it's a security freak's worst nightmare. Some security doesn't provide reliable security!
I really hope the developers read this . 1 ) give it security functions while I am away like patrol when a noise,motion or temperature change...it has the sensors,the house map and home owners face recognition so to inform at my phone if something is happening while I am away with live video feed with 2 way sound .
2) A port to mount accessories at top or down for future upgrades like quadcopter features to patrol further and faster , or to mount a toy gun to play with kids ...it will open a new world of possibilities for the future without the need to buy a new model....just software upgrades .do all that and double at least your sales .then I'll buy one

The fact that he talks and acts like a "pet" is kind of weird. As long as he has a lot more personality and intelligence is fine with me. Kinda like pikachu where he isn't totally like a pet because he has some sort of intellect

Every single robot video on CZcams has someone talking about "Skynet" and our "future robot overlords". Does this look like a Terminator to you? Clearly most people don't know how primitive our artificial intelligence is, even calling it "intelligence" is kind of a stretch. Don't worry, robots aren't taking over anytime soon.
Too true. I don't think most people grasp the difference between artificial *intelligence* and artificial *consciousness* - the AI we have now is rudimentary and reactionary, and good at mimicry, but by no means conscious and independently thinking. We don't even know where it forms or how our own consciousness works.

This little robot has give me a feeling unlike any other, a feeling as though it actually is alive and has a personality I believe this little robot will be revolutionizing the robotics industry soon. Did anybody else feel his personality as very cutesy, curious, and respectful.

I actually own a Cozmo and am very impressed by the new Vector's capability. And the fact that he doesn't require an app running (not crashing) in the background is phenominal. And the auto charging, and situational awareness that his tech offers is super cool!

I love that it shares the same wifi network as everything else in the house. So its only a matter of days before he's changing lights and turning on music based on whose face he sees. I'm excited about this thing.

Anki insists that it's doing everything but voice-to-text locally on the device, not sending to the cloud. It's a thing to pay attention to! But at least they're talking the right talk so far. - Dieter
Yeah, it's bad enough that our smartphones have cameras connected to the internet, but at least they can't follow your movement if you're walking around the house naked or doing anything else you don't want seen or look for expensive items in your home.

The original Anki Cozmo was lots of fun and I still get him out every once in awhile because they have continued to update his software to add more functions. He was definitely a big hit with the kids and the cat.

I have seen every videos of vector and vector is really really hard to hack . I don't think someone will do so much work just to see what's happening in house until he has some grudge to the owner
