Clouseau was written as more of a supporting character in the original film but Sellers performance stole the show. Furthermore, Sellers improvised nearly 75% of Inspector Clouseau. Steve Martin is one of the funniest actors in the modern era, but he's not in the same sport as Peter Sellers.
