I think what happened was with his band, the lead singer Danny left and just wanted to do his own thing. Betraying his band mates, killing them and leaving them for dead, how can he just leave this all behind like it never happened? Ben, the guitarist that looked at him and the one he ran over in the street and left him for dead, was the only one that wanted to let him come back. Even though he ran him over and left him for dead, he kept clinging to life and hope for Danny. Danny recognized all he did and saw Ben clinging to hope for him and just thinks to himself, “Okay, I’ll try to come back for the precipice of the abyss, but there’s something I gotta do first.” Maybe by sacrificing his old self on the altar, because the price for all he’s done wrong that is required is very steep, just maybe he can resurrect something else in the old self’s place. You can also see Ben has a cross around his neck. I don’t know if any of them are professing Christians or not, but the symbolism here is extremely heavy. I understand why anyone would reject that notion from the Church, given the f bomb that was dropped, but some things are simply more important. And maybe Christianity has nothing to do with the band or the song. I don’t know, I don’t care. It is simply something that makes you critically think about all these things. I also heard all of what I just said from someone giving their opinion on the matter, so take everything I said with a grain of salt lol.
