When Yennefer hugs Ciri, what you see is her motherly side show. To her Ciri /is/ her daughter, she helped to raise her. Look at everything she did during the game. She's a mother willing to do anything for her child by blood or not. So anyone who thinks Yen's cold hearted, has not realized her true devotion to her family, they've not seen the face of a real mother. Yennefer loves her daughter Cirilla.
Karley Delgado agreed, and a lot more what she did in the books, not just for Ciri but for Geralt too.
Karley Delgado Yea Yen gives off a not caring attitude towards others, but in truth she was strongly loyal to those she cared about. When separated from Geralt over the years she kept informed to what he was doing and on at least one occasion paying to have rewards for contracts for him increased (although done in a way that he would not find out as he was too "honorable"). She was fully aware of his Destiny and when last meeting before he found Ciri told him to go find her. Yen wasn't to happy to have to train Ciri (more so as Triss had been asked first, and she was still annoyed by Triss using magic to seduce him once) , but Ciri and her gained a very strong bond which Rita told the lodge was blatently evident upon seeing the two of them together. Furthermore in the books Yennefer does everything in her power to find and save Ciri.
I do love this scene as Yennefer clearly very strongly guards her true feelings (the lodge meeting in Baptism of Fire is a great example of this) , but the sheer excitement of seeing her daughter causes her to just pour out. Also later ingame she spends most of her time right next to Ciri.

Yennefers greatest wish (in the books) is to have her own child and find a way to cure her infertility. (All sorceresess are namely infertile)
So she takes her motherly duty really seriously because Ciri is the only chance she has to be a mother.
Not all sorceresses are infertile, Geralt's mom is a sorceress.

Yennefer cry of happiness when she sees Ciri. Done so right, shows her "motherly" emotions to Ciri.
I've never seen Yennefer so happy... Wow. She truly cares for Ciri. What a blessed and accursed woman Ciri is... To be loved by all, but hunted by the worst.

Freeman1000000 Yes specially in the books (sword of destiny and blood of elves) you can really feel the sadness and frustration of Yenn the fact that she is unable to have children. Seeing this scene shows what a caring woman Yennefer actually is, and how she finally kinda fulfills her dream ^^
Jeltje I’ll never forget those bounds forged by Yen, Ciri, and Geralt. Such a beautiful family set up by Destiny itself. The Witcher books are fucking masterpieces I love every single one of them.
That’s one of the reasons why Yennefer always loved Geralt (even though their relationship does get a bit rocky here and there) cause being with him allowed her to live out her dream of being a mother.

@@r.daneel.90 The scene where she scolds the witchers for not noticing that young Ciri experiences her first periods... that was priceless. xD Maybe the first time in the whole series, when all the witchers felt ashamed by what a sorceress told them.
"'Ciri,' Triss whispered. 'Little sister... Let me sail with you...' 'You do not know what you ask, Triss.' 'Will I ever see you...' 'Definitely,' she interrupted." This scene is the first time since that day in Rivia that Triss and Ciri have seen each other again. I feel CDPR could've given their reunion a little more than they did. Triss was also the one who, with the help of Tissaia, got Geralt to Brokilon. I prefer Yen personally, but Triss certainly loves Geralt and Ciri.
Why did there have to be a live triangle, it would have been awesome to have the tired mom and wine aunt talking crap about the Witcher’s the whole time.
@@jonathanbaird8109 and then she sells Ciri out to the lodge and the lodge planned to have Geralt die. I would say she cares about them but cares more about her work rather than Geralt or Ciri.
The way Yen reacts to Ciri is all the proof you need that Yen is the one for Geralt and not Triss.

Yes! And the fact that Triss called Ciri "Little sis". Yennefer feels a bit older and more motherly, Triss is just like a sister/friend. Of course Yennefer is the one for Geralt.
philipssonskan shes also way less nice to geralt. It doesnt feel like an even relationship to me, feels like shes stringing him along. I mostly end up picking triss. Triss simply seems to have less schemes and just wanna be with geralt.
That's ironic since Yen is the one who's more honest and detests scheming and politics. In the books if I recall Triss sided with the Lodge in their plan to kidnap and exploit Ciri for their own gain. To say nothing of her deliberately misleading an amnesiac Geralt into thinking she was the love of his life, and only folding when he realized who Yen was and that she was still alive. The only reason Yen seems so bad for much of the game is because she's terrified that the Hunt will find Ciri. If you stick by her, you'll notice she loosens up pretty much as soon as she reaches Kaer Morhen.

The difference in affection between Ciri and Yen compared to Ciri and Geralt is so obvious. All so they can balance the scale between Yen and Triss so Triss doesn't come off as a homewrecker.

People said Yen was cruel and deceiving in this game with scenes like the garden or the mask.
All I saw was pretty much a Mom doing everything she can to find Ciri, even if means she is vilified, spited and hated for her actions. She didn't care, for everything she did was for Ciri.
True. A lot of people use those actions against her and even compare Triss' saving the mages from Novigrad as heroic whereas Yennefer was selfish, which is ironic because Yennefer did something even more heroic with self-sacrifice: just so she could make sure her 'daughter' is safe again, Yennefer was willing to be hated and turned into a social pariah in Skellige (an entire region!). If she ever gets hurt or lost or in need of help there, nobody would help her and it'll be fine because Ciri's safety was more important than hers. Like how a mother should be.
I wasn’t mad at Yen at all. I totally agree, I haven’t read the books but from what I can gather Yen wanted so badly to be a mother and Ciri IS in fact her daughter. Ermion and Priestesses have no idea how much Ciri means to Yen, if they were in her shoes maybe they would understand.
I've seen so many people say that the garden was the moment that Yen became irredeemable for them and I just assume none of those people have kids. I don't have kids, but if that was my niece or any of my nephews? I'm sorry about your sacred garden, and I'm sorry to this dead man I have to kind of torture, but I don't have a choice here. There's no line I wouldn't cross for them.
I mean, she is still kind of a bitch and the game doesn't exactly exaggerate it but there is far more below that surface of ice and, imo, the games didn't make that clear enough.

I srsly, had no interest in romancing Triss at all throughout the whole 3 games. Totally ditched her on her own in the 2nd game. I wanted more Yen. :< Thanks for posting this! :D

I could just play a 1000-hour game of Yennefer + Geralt + Ciri. This has to be one of the most heartwarming moments in the history of videogames.

You should read the book "Sword of Destiny" and "Blood of Elves". They contain how Ciri met Geralt and Yennefer and bonded with them and it's extremely heartwarming in both cases. The game barely even shows it accurately.
So many people debate on who Geralt should choose to romance, but for me personally, I think it is totally Yennefer. Even if you haven't read the books and only played the games, if you just look at the way Ciri reacts to reuniting with Triss and Yen, I think it is clearly obvious who Ciri prefers...and what Ciri thinks oddly determined most of my gameplay.
I found Yen's and Ciri's reuniting so affectionate. Just the way Yen gets all enthusiastic and runs like a goober to Ciri and just sweeps her into her arms. And compliments her beauty and such..it's adorable. It's so motherly and it really showed a whole other side to Yennefer that you don't really see in the game.
On the other hand, I found Triss's and Ciri's so uncomfortable and awkward. Not very enthusiastic, almost like it was a chore to say hello. And then she calls her 'little sis'...that is what made it weird for me. I really got attached to Ciri throughout the gameplay, and I definitely felt that fatherly vibe. As a result I just found it so weird how the chick I could be banging sees my psuedo daughter as a sister. That made me completely nope out of that.
I've played the games first, and then I read the novels after, so my choices weren't determined by that. Yet, it's so odd how I naturally preferred Yen in the games. I mean, she was such a sarcastic cunt to Geralt most of the time...but I absolutely adored that about her. I just felt there was so much more to her and I found her destructive motherly instinct so enduring. Not only that, but I guess I preferred Yen's body over Triss's.

I choose yennifer too, because Geralt loves her so much even though they have alot of problems and she can be a total bitch sometimes, also the song Priscilla sings is very heart warming.

Yeah, Triss is friends with her with their experience at Kaer Morhen, but ends up 'betraying' her and Geralt by siding with the Lodge over Ciri- she was always weak.

For the most part, the game did a poor job of reflecting just how close Yennefer was to Ciri. It's fair to say that Yennefer was more a mother to Ciri than Geralt was a father, at least in the books. Which you wouldn't know just from playing the game.
This scene at least hinted a little bit at that relationship, but it should've been elaborated on much more than it was.
I agree. This game has few flaws, but I think that's one of them. Just two or three scenes of them together would have been able to convey their relationship if done well.
OdysseusKing She was running herself ragged trying to find her. She used necromancy just to get some info on her. Stole the Mask of Ourobos, destroyed the Garden and alienated pretty much all of Skellige. The whole reason she agreed to work with Emyhr was because he had information on Ciri.

To me, Triss is the perfect gf material when Yen is more of a wife material. Triss is good for temporary happiness, and the way she shemes to get Geralt feels more like what a young love would do while Yen knows than durability is more about following a common purpose rather than just love
Absolutely spot on. Same opinion. Triss romance is like a new relationship with nothing but compliments and slight nervousness but yens is like deep love. Lots of fights, but intense love. You hurt the ones you love the most because yoy know they wont stop loving you because of it. Probably why yen is sometimes a bit prickly. But you can see they all love each other. And it just feels like they are a family. The way they act around each other. Geralt yen Ciri and vesemir. Sorry triss.

I rushed through sidequests because I though it was weird to run after Ciri and still have time for dumb quests. But now that the story line is done... there's no real motivation anymore.

Need a Witcher 4 where that's lots of Geralt, Yen and Ciri time :(((( Love their family moments+ Yen romance dialogues. Plus the games didn't give justice to Yen and Ciri relationship. :( But still the best game I've ever played.

You could read the books. Story wise they are way better than the game, too, including the interactions between Ciri and Geralt and Yen.

So sensetive moment! Was about to start crying when i was looking at it!
CDPR Projekt Red are just amazing. What they managed to do with The Witcher on a pretty small budget, with a tiny team, is unbelievable. Perhaps it's proof that too many cooks spoil the broth. But, everything about this game was on point. The VA performances, the unparralelled facial animations for a game that used procedural animation instead of mo cap, the plot, the character dialogues and interactions, the world building, the side quests... The list goes on and on.
I don't know any words hyperbolic enough to adequately explain my awe and appreciation for The Witcher 3 and the people who made it. Bravo, good sirs. 👏
Fun fact, in original, polish version Yennefer calls Ciri her "daughter" while hugging here, which makes this scene even better. One of my favourites

But one thing is not mentioned in the books and tis her skin, so her skin must be the "normal" one, nothing remarkable. And a "normal" person from eastern europe must be: White.

As someone who really doesn't like Triss, especially in the games. I wish they gave her something more here. Ciri means a lot to her too, she truly is like her little sister. That, almost calm "little sis" just doesn't feel like how Triss would react. It sounds more like my sister when I haven't visited her for a couple months, not if she hadn't seen me for years and had spent months not knowing if I was safe.

I've been recently going through so many memories of missions of this game watched the series and have that fucking song stuck in my head (toss a coin).... as soon as I get back home I'm gonna try to beat this game!!! Again. On death march difficulty!!!! No other game in my life has made me so emotionally invested other than The Last Of Us.... might even buy the books!!!!

witcher 2 was all about triss, witcher3 is all about yen...deal with it. just like how triss dealth with that kiss. is why triss wasnt included in the panel where ciri was looking at yen and geralt fondly
