    I can't believe the vet didn't even remotely suggest a decent hoof trim for Charlie😮 esp where laminitis is concerned & his feet so blatantly needing a trim!!!

    • @barbaralandrycooper3892
      @barbaralandrycooper3892 Před 6 měsíci +12

      After dealing with laminitis and spending literally thousands to get my horse back, I was horrified by this whole interaction. I know they can't show everything, but laminitis is an emergency and he didn't convey the very serious nature of this horses condition at all. Horses die/get put down from this unless the management is addressed completely. I was very disappointed in the lackadaisical approach. When people who don't know watch this it makes it seem like it's nothing!
      Pony needs a dry lot, therapeutic boots, massive trimming overhaul, and NO SUGAR or grass. Forever. Or he will always be in pain!

      The fierce territorial battles of the sea lions were a display of strength, but it's a bit controversial to be entertained by such power struggles, isn't it?

      @@barbaralandrycooper3892 :
      As soon as I saw this FAT pony , I knew that it was grass foundered but bear in mind that this isn't a well bred , highly schooled equine athlete but merely a yard ornament and a SLIGHTLY foundered one at that .
      I think that this was indeed addressed correctly .
      Stop over reacting .
      I'm sure that more had been outlined behind the cameras.

    • @LunaHeartnet
      @LunaHeartnet Před 6 měsíci +3

      I don't think Charlie has been afflicted with laminitis for long enough for Rotation of the Coffin Bones to be a risk.

    • @barbaralandrycooper3892
      @barbaralandrycooper3892 Před 6 měsíci +3

      How would you know without checking? It only takes a couple of days of active laminitis to cause rotation/permanent damage.

      @@LunaHeartnetyou make an excellent point. In a program like this, the most pressing issue is the one that gets the focus. Other health issues may be addressed off-screen. It's great that the program gives a view of veterinary medicine and life in rural America!

    We raised Quarter Horses, and had one founder. There was a lot of intensive treatment and fortunately it recovered just fine. I do agree that the mini pony looked like it needed a visit from a farrier. I do appreciate these two vets. Big hearts for animals.

    Charlie Horse..I have taken in more than a few foundered mares and ponies. Aspirin is the immediate Rx. Aspirin is a vascular dilator meaning circulation is improved in the hoof. This improvement in circulation helps remove the toxins of inflammation within the hoof laminae. Rasping the elongated toes off may help also,

    "She said 'You're my baby now'". Ummm, where was that footage? That sounds more like wishful thinking as the momma was NOT taking to the doe suckling, but shaking her off and focusing on treats. Hopefully Jane Doe did bond with one of the mommas.

    Why was the fawn shaved? It wasn’t when they handed it to the boys before the trip, but it was shaved on both sides of its hind end with the doe.
