"Drone Tapping" lesson from my song "Perhaps Everything, Perhaps Nothing" from the album "A Lesson in Impermanence" streaming on all major platforms here: johnferrarabass.hearnow.com
    Lesson Description:
When we first start learning the bass the fact that we have several different versions of the same note on different strings is a giant pain! But I've found if we fully embrace those notes, it actually becomes a huge advantage! In this lesson I discuss what I've loosely dubbed "Drone Tapping" to describe the "droning" sound produced by coordinating a fast rhythm between left and right hands while playing the same notes on different strings. Not only can we get to know the fret board which helps with bass playing in general, but we can make some insane sounding patterns with relative ease! Please watch, and remember to "Like" and "Subscribe" if you like it, and PLEASE feel free to let me know any questions you might have in the comments and I'd be happy to elaborate!

Nice! Your video teaching the basic patterns for Put Another Rock In That Bag I was the first time I considered the advantages of tapping the same notes on different strings. I think that calling it 'drone' tapping is perfect.

It's almost like a delay effect that sounds like Tosin's selective picking, some other bits reminded me of Josh Martin's butterfly tapping and glitch tapping. I wrote something using this EXACT same thing a few years ago and called it unison tapping, but I never really cared for it. Granted I've learned a lot since then about writing and implementing many techniques to create unique things, you've inspired me to try it again. I don't really see it as it's own independent technique but just an approach. Love your stuff man and thanks for the inspiration!
